File_column, RMagick, and watermarking
I''m working on a photo gallery and I''m using File_column to handle the
uploads of the files and create my thumbnails, but does anyone here have
any idea how to have a watermark (opaque text maybe) placed over one of
the versions? Any ideas on how to go about this would be great. Even if
it''s just straight RMagick code, that would be fine too.
Thanks in advance for the

Confused over Model attrbutes and @ prefix
I''m confused about how attributes work in models. For example:
class Page < ActiveRecord::Base
attr_accessor :body
def foo
id # works
@id # won''t work IIRC
body # won''t work
@body #works
end
end
Why doesn''t everything work the same?

file_column Cropping -> image offset information
Hello,
I had a problem cropping images with file_column. These are my settings:
file_column :image, :magick => {
:versions => {
:thumb => "80x80>",
:medium => "150x150>",
:square => {
:crop => "1:1",
:size => "50x50!"
}

file_column with polymorphic table relationship?
Hello,
I''m just starting out with both Rails and Ruby, so I hope this isn''t too
simple of a question - but I''ve been struggling to find a solution.
I''m using the file_column plugin to handle image uploads and thumbnail
generation. In addition, I''ve wrapped the image into a polymorphic table
so I can have uploaded images associated with multiple

file_column image versions
does anyone know much about resizing different versions of images with
file_column? i tried it and everything works fine, but my question is
can you do more than just make sizes with a version of image? i''m
working on a photo album and i would like to resize the image to a
medium size, but create a thumbnail as well and crop anything left to
make the thumbnail a perfect square.

Little Ferret Problem
I''ve implemented Ferret, using the instructions here:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowToIntegrateFerretWithRails
I get no errors in the application at all... however, I always get 0
results.
I built an index off of some data, it exists in the index/ directory, the
form submits find... etc...
Just 0 results... all the time :)
I confirmed the data from my models is being put

form_remote_tag and redirects
I would like to have a login box setup so that if incorrect info is
submitted, the box "shakes" via Effect.Shake.
If the correct information is submitted, I want to redirect to some other
page.
The only solution I''ve found is the following, which is pretty ugly, as it
displays the javascript I''m invoking on the page prior to the redirect.
Here is the code:

Javascript/AJAX Debugging
Hello !
I''m trying to implement something similar to the "multiple updates" section
of the Web2.0 chapter of the Agile book.
I implemented my version, and nothing is happening. No javascript errors,
my logs look fine, page is rendered fine... just no Effect.Highlight. Here
is the code:

Sanity Check
Maaaaaaaaaaaaajor sanity check needed.
I wrote a simple little plugin, and it wouldn''t load. I put some comments
in it''s init.rb, and it didn''t even spit those out. So, I dug into the
initializer.rb (/vendor/rails/railties/lib/initializer.rb) to see wtf is
going on, and found the problem... but... can''t explain it. Here is the
code in question:

Multiple Model Validation
Hey All !
I have a form which contains two models. I would like both models to be
validated, but have their validations aggregated on the page.
If I do:
<%= error_messages_for(:model1) %>
<%= error_messages_for(:model2) %>
It puts two big validation blocks on the page. I would like all the errors
from both models, but only in one validation box.
Is this possible ? All my attempts

file_column imagemagick strangeness
Hi,
I''m using the basic magick features of file_column,
and while files are uploading fine without the magick options, as soon as I do something like
:magick => { :size => "400x600" }
I get an ''invalid file'' error.
Further investigation reveals that the file is in fact invalid because something somewhere is truncating the file path:

file_column: patched for imagemagick and validation
Hi all,
I patched file_column to add imagemagick transformations of uploaded
content. I added an options hash, and it takes the :magick and
:format keys. :magick is a string of imagemagick command line options
for convert (Reference:
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php). Format is an optional
extension for the finished image. If Imagemagick recognizes the
extension, then it will

RJS and Form Validation (Best Practice)
Hello All !
I''ve been using RJS extensively, but haven''t done any form validation with
it until now.
Should I be manually passing the RJS template some models error messages
from the controller.... or
... should I be using error_messages_for in order to do the display ?
I''ve implemented the first approach, but it seems like quite a hack.
Any insight would be greatly

File_column and rmagick options
Hi,
Currently I''m using the file_column plugin to upload images and save
multiple copies of each at 3 different resoltions:

"250x400>", "large480" => "480X640>" }

Fixtures and Relationships
In my daily development, I migrate back and forth between versions, and
often do: rake load_fixtures...
... in order to populate my development database with fun data.
Now, with any HABTM relationship, there are failures, as there is no way to
say "which" fixtures to load first.
Within an actual functional or unit test case, you could simply load them in
the proper order, but

File_column crashing WEBrick when using :magick options

are working fine.
However, when I try and use the :magick options to make resized

Examples for Money library ?
Can anybody share some examples of their Money implementation ?
I''m trying to setup a Model to use this library, but can''t seem to wrap my
head around how it is exactly supposed to work.
My Model (Foo) looks like:
