3d Map with bars
Apologies in advance for the question. I am trying to draw a map of the US
as a surface plot so that I would be able to drop bars on the different
states (something like Uwe Ligges' scatterplot3d example 4). I am not sure
where to start looking for such a beast. If anyone has any pointers,
ideas, I will be grateful.
TIA,

A suggestion regarding multiple replies
Please don't take this the wrong way. There are a lot of extremely helpful
people who subscribe to r-help.
I was wondering if it is time to adopt a strategy a-la Splus help whereby
people reply to the author and the author summarizes all the replies?
Just a thought and have a good weekend.

Mathematical Superscript on the y-axis of a plot
I am trying to get superscripts on the y-axis. I keeping getting syntax
error:
This works as advertised:
> plot(c(1:10), ylab= expression(paste(x^ theta)))
This does not:
>plot(c(1:10), ylab= expression(paste(x^ {++})))
Note that I am trying to get ++ as superscript.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

using the pfe editor with R 1.1.3 under windows 2000
I am in the process of setting up R1.3.1 on a new computer running windows
2000. I am having problems running the PFE text editor simultaneously
within R for editing functions and outside R for editing
ordinary text files. The PFE editor behaves as I expected, if it is opened
in R AND but no other PFE window is open outside R. Similarly, it also
works fine if I am editing a text file outside

R-release dynamic load problem on HPUX10.20
Hello,
I just pulled the patched release:
R-release Version 1.0.0 Patched (March 19, 2000), on HPUX10.2
I am having dynamic library load problems. I configured with:
./configure --prefix=/home/absd00t/local --with-readline --with-x
After changing etc/Makeconf to take -lblas out of libs (the blas
library provided by the system is not a shared library), system was
built without any interruptions.

legend help

for(shape in c(1,3,5) ){
curve(dgamma(x,rate,shape),xlim=c(0,3),ylab="",col=i,lty=i,add=T)
i=i+1

How can I add some legend to represent these lines?
i.e. the legend is displayed as

col=2 lty=2 lambda=2 theta=3
col=3 lty=3 lambda=2 theta=5
col=4 lty=4 lambda=4 theta=1

Validation of R
Hi All
I am really very interested in starting to use R within our company. I
particularly like the open source nature of the product. My company is a
medical research company which is part of the University of London.
We conduct contract virology research for large pharma companies. My
question is how do we validate this software? I wonder if anyone else
has had the problem and might be able to

consolidate three function into one
Hi Bert,
I am sorry to bother you on weekend.
I am still struggling on defining a correct function.
I first defined the function RFS (see below), then run it by provide the two argument.
m52.2cluster <-RFS(inputfile =allinfo_m52, N=2 )
I do not get error message, but no figure displays on screen. I do not know what is going on.
Can you help me a little more on this issue?
Thank you,

Hi Richard,
Thank you so much!! I understand the problem now, I assign a name to the "ggsurvplot" object and then add print(fig) at bottom of function definition, now figure gets printed on screen.

FAQ 7.22
You must print a ggplot object, for example with
print(m52.2cluster)
For the FAQ, run the line
system.file("../../doc/FAQ")
in R on your computer.
Open up the resulting filepath in your favorite editor and scroll down to 7.22

That is certainly OK, but you can also just use
print(ggsurvplot(...))
as your final statement.
out <- RFS( ...)
would then return the ggsurvplot object *and* graph it.
Any good R tutorial or a web search will provide more details on function
returns, which you might find useful.
Cheers,

Thank you, your suggestion is simpler and logically better. I had impression that the last object in a function gets returned, so I did not add the print function at the bottom line of the function definition. Returning an object and graph the object are different process, I am a beginner for writing R function and need to find a good guide source about writing R functions. If you know a good

Appology in advance if this has been asked and answered. I am getting different
answers using Fisher's exact test in the package ctest. For example:

However, in SAS or other packages on the net the answer I get is p-value=

null plotting symbol ?
I am calling plot() with argument pch as a vector of numeric
symbol codes, the same length as x and y. Is there some code
which produces no symbol - a blank - so that I can come back
with a second call to points() and fill in these locations
using a different fill color and a different symbol size ?
There's always a work-around, but both x and y are generated
