clearing some part of a graph
Hi R lovers 2 questions: 1) I'd like to know how to clean the title, the sub title or the labels of a graph. I know how to redefine it with the function title() but it overwrites the previous title and do not replace it 2) How could I clear a whole plot (for example in a multiple figure environment) thanks for your help vincent

Hi R lovers! I'd like to know how to use the parameter 'start' in the function fitdistr() obviously I have to provide the initial value of the parameter to optimize except in the case of a certain set of given distribution Indeed according to the help file for fitdistr " For the following named distributions, reasonable starting values will be computed if `start'

Fit Frechet Distribution
hello everybody i want to use the maximum likelihood method to estimate FRECHET parameters of my sample data. Should it work with fitdistr in the package MASS? I only find how to do it for GEV, Gumbel, and almost all other distributions, but FRECHET? I would be very happy if somebody can tell me how to do fit the FRECHET distribution! Thanks Nadja Riedwyl

Gumbell distribution - minimum case
Hello, I would like to sample from a Gumbell (minimum) distribution. I have installed package {evd} but the Gumbell functions there appear to refer to the maximum case. Unfortunately, setting the scale parameter negative does not appear to work. Is there a separate package for the Gumbell minimum? -- _____________________________ Rich Gwozdz Fire and Mountain Ecology Lab College of

simple mixture
Dear All, I am trying to do some simple mixture analyses. For instance, I have a sample of n observations and I suspect they come from two different exponential distributions with parameters rate1 and rate2, respectively. So, I want to estimate rate1, rate2, and the proportions of both kinds of individuals in the sample. I had a look at the packages mda and mclust, but they do not seem to do this

merging variable and character
Hi R lovers! I'd like to know the trick to get a plot with a title associating variable and text I'd like to plot something like for (i in 1:10) plot(x[,i],ylab="Serie" & i) to get Serie 1 Serie 2 so on and so forth... of course it doesn't work. If somebody could give me an idea, it would be very nice thank you very much and long life to R Vincent

Thanks in advance, Chen dGEV <- function(x, xi, mu = 0, sigma = 1, logvalue=FALSE) { xx <- (x-mu)/sigma #use the new dGumbel which passes mu and sigma: #if (xi==0) out <- dGumbel(xx,logvalue=TRUE)-log(sigma) if (xi==0) {

standard error very high in maximum liklihood fitting
Dear all, I have been trying to fit my data (only right censored) with gumbel distribution using fitdistrplus. I am getting very high standard error. I have been wondering why. The followings are the outputs: fit1=fitdistcens(dr0, "gumbel", start=list(a=99, b=0.6), optim.method= "L-BFGS-B", lower = 0.0, upper = Inf) > summary(fit1) FITTING OF THE DISTRIBUTION ' gumbel
