rotate plot
Dear group members,
I am trying to plot two adjacent plots using layout function. One plot is scatter plot and the other is density plot. However, I would like that the density plot would be present horizonaly in respect to the scatter plot.

Dear all,
I am trying to run cloud function in lattice library under r-1.7, and I wlways get gray background. I've tried to chang it by set "...par.box=list(col="white")"
or by gpar(background="white") but no result.
How do i do it?
Thanks in advance,

I use Ubuntu12.04, GNU Make 3.81 and I am not sure if I use some special
configure options. The commands I use after clone the repo are as follows:

./bootstarp
./configure
make
cd xapian-letor
aclocal -I ../xapian-core/m4
libtoolize --force
autoconf
autoheader
automake --add-missing

Dummy quesion about environment
Hi,
I'm trying to understand environment object in R.
I used the example:
f <- function(x) {
y <- 10
g <- function(x) x + y
return(g)
}
h <- f()
h(3)
then i saw that f return an environment
> h
function(x) x + y
<environment: 01B28570>
but I coudn't access to x and y object in that environment:
I tried

boot&table
Hello,
I want to bootstarp a sample, and I need table() for each sample taken,
like if R=100, I need all 100 table(). It seems to mee that boot() works
anly if you assing statistics, that gives you back one number, like
mean. Although the ?boot/statistics says that it can be a vector
containing statistics. table() gives an array, so it might work. Does
anybody have an idea how? I konw it can be

different functions on different vector subsets
Hi,
I am trying to apply two different functions on on a vector as follow:
a<-c(NA,1,2,3,-3,-4,-6)
if a>0 I would like to raise it by the power of 2: 2^a and if the a<0 I
would like to have the inverse value, i.e., -1/2^a.
so I thought of doing it two steps:
a[a>0]<-2^[a>0]
a[a<0]<-(-1)/2^a[a<0]
I got the following error
Error: NAs are not allowed in subscripted

[LLVMdev] LLVM-gcc scheduler
I'm a taking a compiler course and I'm supposed to implement a scheduler
for the LLVM compiler and comapre its persformance to the existing one
used by LLVM-gcc. I need some help understanding what is really
happening in LLVM-gcc. In CodeGen/SelectionDAG/ I can see four different
Schedulers, which one is used by LLVM? Can you give a hint on where/how
to add a new scheduler and test

GlmmPQL
Dear all,
I have two questions concerning model simplification in GlmmPQL, for for random
and fixed effects:
1. Fixed effects: I don't know if I can simply specify anova(model) and trust
the table that comes up with the p value for each variable in the fixed
effects formula. I have read that the only way to test for fixed effects is to
do approximate wald tests based on the standard errors

Hclust tree to Figtree w/ branch lengths
Hi,
I'm doing hierarchical clustering, and want to export my dendrogram to a
tree-viewing/editing software. I can do this by converting the data to
Newick format (hc2Newick in ctc package), but I can't get branch lengths to
show in the resulting phylogram. I figured it might help to convert my
hclust object into a phylo object (as.phylo in ape package), but the
following lines give me

Any functions to manipulate (merge, cut, remove) hclust objects? (maybe through phylo?)
Hello all,
I'm now working with hclust objects and was hoping to perform some basic
editing on them like:
- Joining = the merging of two hclust objects (so they will share one
root)
- Splicing = So to cut/extract a branch out of an hclust object - that by
itself will be an hclust object.
I noticed I could extract one element of an hclust object by turning it into
a dendrogram,

boot & boot.ci
Dear all,
I've a problem with bootstarp package... I want to bootstrap
correlation ratio of some data.
my code is:
f<-function(d) cov(d$x,d$y)/sqrt(var(x)*var(y))
boot(d,f,R)
As a result I got an error:
Error in statistic(data, original, ...) : unused argument(s) (..

d is a data.frame containing two vectors with labels x and y.
Also, another thing I have problem

For Loop performance
Hello,
Newbie question and hope you can help .
I have two vector V1 and V2, where length(V2) = length of (V1) * 2;
length(V1) ~ 16,000.
For each member in V1, I need to compare 2 element of V2 for equality
i.e.
for (I in 1:length (V1)) {
if ( v2[i] == v1[i] & v2[i+1]==v1[i] ){
statement_1
statement_2
.
}
}
This for-loop is too slow

Hi~ Manu
I was glad to see you were interested in Xapian, especially the learning to
rank project. There are two branch in my repo. The one named gsoc2014
is followed the thought of Parth's work in which we not assign the test set
for each ranking and in another one gsoc2014-evaluation we assign the
training set and test set explicitly so that we can get the evaluation
score of each ranking

95% confidence interval of the coefficients from a bootstrap analysis
Hello,
I am doing a simple linear regression analysis that includes few variables.
I am using a bootstrap analysis to obtain the variation of my variables to
replacement.
I am trying to obtain the coefficients 95% confidence interval from the
bootstrap procedure.
Here is my script for the bootstrap:
N = length (data_Pb[,1])
B = 10000
stor.r2 = rep(0,B)
stor.r2 = rep(0,B)

Dear supporter,
Can you tell me please how can I mirroring R at our site? One of the reasons I would like to do this is the fact that it is impossible to update R behind our firewalls.

I've been trying to figure out how to access the individual elements
