help output paged in separate window
Hi folks, I use R in X windows on Linux. Normally, I use 'less' as pager, which is fine for scanning through 'help' (or '?') output in the R window itself; the help session is terminated by typing "q", as usual for 'less', and the R window then reverts to the R command line interface. Often, I would like to have the output from 'help' pop up in

help in a separate window under linux
Hi there. R v1.3.0, Slackware linux 7.1 or Windows 98SE, PII 266, 64Mb RAM. I notice that under windows, R puts help info (ie. the response to '?<function>') into a new window, whereas under linux, it puts it into the main console window. I find the former much more helpful when checking a function's syntax. Is there a simple way of configuring R under linux to put its help

R-alpha: naming convention for index files
In the process of moving to the new directory structure, we might also reconsider the naming of the various index files. A simple idea would be to have an `INDEX' file in each directory where this is appropriate. E.g., we could have pkg/funs/INDEX (rather than help/pkg/INDEX) pkg/data/INDEX (rather than index.doc) pkg/help/INDEX (rather than AnIndex) or e.g. pkg/INDEX.funs

more or less pager
R-users, (forgive my return adres) I've been breaking my head why R---which i find fabulous, by the way---does not pipe interactive output through a pager (more or less), like it does with help(), or like GNU Octave does with arrays with more than terminal height rows. Maybe it is my installation (Debian/GNU Linux). Maybe it is my configuration, but i don't think so because with

Odd error
I have Ssh setup for passwordless execution of the rsync command via sudo. (command="sudo /usr/local/bin/rsync...") which for the most part works fine. However, somewhere along the line things aren't running as the right uid/gid. I get Oct 11 13:15:40 node15 sudo: back-op : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/usr/home/back-op ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/local/bin/rsync --server --daemon . Oct 11

R-0.64.0 is released
I've put up R-0.64.0.tgz up for FTP from Auckland a little while ago. As usual, don't get it from there unless you are desperate, but wait for it to be mirrored at a CRAN site near you within a day or two. For those who *are* desperate, I've left a copy in ftp://blueberry.kubism.ku.dk/pub/R-devel/R-0.64.0.tgz (Be gentle, that's my desktop PC!) There's also a version split

Comboot for showing DOCS
hm, nice algorythm thingie. I'm not a programmer, so here goes: currently: F1 helpfile.txt probably results in DISPLAY helpfile.txt perhaps extend this option: F1 arg1 arg2 arg3 argX if arg1 does not exist, abort (currently also done?) if arg1 ends in COM extension, execute it and pass the optional arg2/3/X parameters if arg1 ends in C32 extension, same thing. else DISPLAY arg1 // arg1

(PR#9915) *.Rd file: space after topic in "\alias{topic }"
Spaces are indeed significant in \alias, and the treatment of leading and trailing spaces seems undocumented. (Four CRAN package authors have made assumptions here.) As far as I can see this comes up in 3 places: 1) Writing AnIndex strips leading but not trailing spaces. 2) get_multi used to create @aliases strips both. 3) Looking up aliases in \link happens at both compile and (for [C]HTML)

Copying from graphics window in OS X
I'm running R from an Xterm window is OSX-Tiger. Graphical windows appear as they should, but I'm having trouble copying from them--using cmd+c or the Copy option in the Edit menu won't place the graph in the clipboard (when I paste into a running OS X app, I get whatever was the last copied thing from a non-x11 window). Any ideas on how to copy from a xterm-launched graphical

Why doesn't compiz honor special window settings?
Listmates, I have a problem with compiz not honoring the special window settings in kde for xterm. In kde, I have the position and size of the xterm window set to a usable default. In KDE, the window opens to the proper size and location. In compiz, it is about 1/2 the size and never opens where it is set to open. Is there a way to have compiz read the default window settings for xterm?
