multiple graphics windows open
Dear R People: Now I have a function with 3 graphics windows. I'd like for them all to be visible. However, the first window goes blank. Here is the basic setup. The first plot is the entire series. The user selects two points, which in turns generates a subset plot and an EWMA subset plot. Finally, if things worked right, the user should be able to click on "Tile Vertically"

aggregating a daily zoo object to a weekly zoo object
Dear R People: I'm trying to convert a daily zoo object to a weekly zoo object: xdate <- seq(as.Date("2002-01-01"),as.Date("2010-07-10"),by="day") library(zoo) length(xdate) xt <- zoo(rnorm(3113),order=xdate) xdat2 <- seq(index(xt)[1],index(xt)[3113],by="week") xt.w <- aggregate(xt,by=xdat2,mean) Error: length(time(x)) ==

ifelse returns
Greetings R Community, I am working with the ifelse function and it is returning something unexpected. In the code the line with the MODE1 assignment the output is a vector [1] 4 5 6 but when I put the MODE1 object into the ifelse function [R}'s output for MODE1 is the first number from the string (4). Why is this? Given the supplied vector of x I would assume both the MODE1 and ifelse()

multiple graphics windows open with sessionInfo
Dear R People: Hello again. I'm trying to have 3 graphics windows visible simultaneously. I set up a zoo series. Then I plot the original series. I use the locator function to select 2 values from the original series, which generates a subset of the original series. Next, I plot the subset. The last step is to produce an EWMA chart from the subset series. Fair enough. I've tried

aggregate for zoo or its?
Dear R People: The aggregate function works very well on regular time series. Is there a version for zoo or its that would take daily data and convert it to monthly, please? problem with mode of marginal distriubtion of rdirichlet{gtools}
Hi all, I have a problem using rdirichlet{gtools}. For Dir( a1, a2, ..., a_n), its mode can be found at $( a_i -1)/ ( \sum_{i}a_i - n)$; The means are $a_i / (\sum_{i} a_i ) $; I tried to study the above properties using rdirichlet from gtools. The code are: ############## library(gtools) alpha = c(1,3,9) #totoal=13 mean.expect = c(1/13, 3/13, 9/13) mode.expect = c(0, 2/10, 8/10) #

omitting columns from a data frame
Dear R People: I have a data frame, xm1, which has 12 rows and 4 columns. If I put is xm1[,-4], I get all rows, and columns 1 - 3, which is as it should be. Now, is there a way to use the names of the columns to omit them, please? Thanks so much in advance! substring/strsplit question
Dear R People: Here is a toy example: > x <- c("2E","5W","12H") > substr(x,2,2) [1] "E" "W" "2" > Sometimes x has 3 elements, sometimes 2. I want to extract the last element, and then extract the other 1 or 2 elements. How can I do this, please? TIA, Sincerely, Erin -- Erin Hodgess Associate Professor Department of

breaks
Dear R People: I have a question about a "sorting" problem, please. I have a vector xx: > xx [1] -2.0 1.4 -1.2 -2.2 0.4 1.5 -2.2 0.2 -0.4 -0.9 and a vector of breaks: > xx.y [1] -2.2000000 -0.9666667 0.2666667 1.5000000 I want to produce another vector z which contains the number of the class that each data point is in. for instance, xx[1] is between xx.y[1] and

Building R from source with the PGI compiler
Hello I would like to build R from source and use the PGI compiler, rather than the GCC compiler. I saw the instructions for the Intel compiler in the R Installation Manual, but I didn't see the PGI. I tried a few times without instructions, but without success. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Also, I hope this is the right group for the question. Sincerely, Erin -- Erin

Dear R People: I have generated the following table: > table(zza$DEATH,zza$GENDER) F M 2009-04-21 0 1 2009-04-22 4 2 2009-04-24 6 0 2009-04-25 1 3 2009-04-26 2 0 2009-04-28 3 0 2009-04-29 2 2 However, instead of total counts in the F and M columns, I would like percents. How would I do this, please? thanks, Erin -- Erin

replicating C example from the Extensions Manual problem
Dear R People: Here is something that I am sure is very simple. I'm just trying to re-create the C convolution example in the Extensions manual. Here is the subroutine: void convolve(double *a, int *na, double *b, int *nb, double *ab) { R_len_t i, j, nab = *na + *nb - 1; for(i = 0; i < nab; i++) ab[i] = 0.0; for(i = 0; i < *na; i++) for(j = 0; j < *nb; j++) ab[i + j] += a[i] *
