Macintosh Transperancy (PR#11511)
Full_Name: Brad Vance Version: 2.7.0 OS: 10.5.2 Submission from: (NULL) (71.123.195.202) Problem : When drawing transperant points with lines thick-lines(lwd>1) + fill (pch=21-25), it looks like the line is transperantly overlayed over the fill, making it look like 2-lines surround the fill (each a different color). I actually think that this is a nice OPTIONAL way to draw the points (even

help with making a function of scatter plot with multiple variables
Dear list, I have done a scatter plot of multiple variables in the same graph, with different col and pch. I managed to do it with the following code but not know how to make a function of these so that next time if I want to do similar graph but with new variables, I dont have to copy the code and then change the old variables with the new ones but just call a function with the new

Using Lattice, LatticeExtra - Hide right and top axes in multipanel plots
Dear Rxperts, How do I hide the top and right axes in multiple panel plots? A couple of examples are provided below.. Would highly appreciate appreciate your assistance.. #Example 1 library(latticeExtra) xyplot((1:200)/20 ~ (1:200)/20, type = c("p", "g"), scales = list(x = list(log = 2,alternating=0), y = list(log = 10,alternating=0)), xscale.components =

3.0.1rc2 LDAP - problems joining domain
Hi, I'm back on the list ;-) I seem to be having some trouble getting W2K machines to join the domain in 3.0.1rc2. I haven't looked at this in detail since 2.2.8a but it looks like the account gets created in LDAP and then it has trouble setting the password appropriately. I believe this is the relevant part of the log: api_rpcTNP: samr op 0x3a - api_rpcTNP: rpc command:

Clustering quality measure
Hi all, I am running a series of experiments where after manipulating my data I run several clustering algorithms (agnes, diana and a clustering method of my own) on the data. I wanted to determine which clustering method did the best job, so therefore I had defined my own quality measure using two criteria: compactness of the data within the clusters themselves and the amount of seperation

Multiple imputation
Hi all, I'm currently working with a dataset that has quite a few missing values and after some investigation I figured that multiple imputation is probably the best solution to handle the missing data in my case. I found several references to functions in S-Plus that perform multiple imputation (NORM, CAT, MIX, PAN). Does R have corresponding functions? I searched the archives but was not

Plotting math functions
Hi all, I was wondering whether it is possible to plot math functions, for example sin, cos or a Gaussian type function, in R, and if so, how to do it. I have been searching through the archives and the R manual but had no luck in finding any hints on how to go about this. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks, Jonck

Lattice xyplot multipanels
Derar Rxperts, I have a strange situation.. I see curly brackets around "strip.levels" in multipanel strips while using lattice::xyplot. .How do I get rid of the curly brackets? For some reason, I am not able to reproduce the problem using an example below... Any suggestions are highly welcome! Thanks, Santosh q <-

Multiple match function?
Hi all, I have (yet another) question about a function in R. What I would like to do is test for the presence of a certain value in a vector, and have the positions that this value is at returned to me. For example, let's say I have a vector: x <- c(1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4) Now I would like a function that would return positions 3 and 4 should I test for the value "2". Or 5 and 6

randomForests predict problem
Hello everybody, I'm testing the randomForest package in order to do some simulations and I get some trouble with the prediction of new values. The random forest computation is fine but each time I try to predict values with the newly created object, I get an error message. I thought I was because NA values in the dataframe, but I cleaned them and still got the same error. What am I

Adding a legend to R graph device with several plots (no to individual plots!)
Dear Users, I already posted this question: it either went unnoticed, or it is to basic (if this is so, please sent me a hint). I would like to know if there is a way to add a common legend to an arrangement of plots. In the example below, I get four plots in my device. each one has a density for 1995 and one for 2006. I have found that using legend or smartlegend I can add a legend to each plot,

Question on SOM and clustering
Hello everyone, I'm new to this list, so let me introduce myself: my name is Jonck van der Kogel and I am a graduate student at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. I am currently working on my thesis which is on the use of artificial intelligence for large data-sets. To do an analysis of a certain data-set I want to use Kohonen's SOM algorithm. However, as I understand it, the SOM

problems with submitting an eps-file created in R
Dear all I've got some problems submitting a manuscript, because I can't manage creating the favourable eps-file of a graph created in R. The journal's graphic requirements are as followed: format: eps width: max. 6 inches resolution: min. 1000 dpi supported fonts: Arial, Courier, Helvetica, Symbol, Times, Charcoal, Chicago, Geneva, Georgia, Monaco, Zapf, New York Itried to ways

Plot command drops part of the plot for large plots in multiple figure environment
I have run into some surprising behaviour when plotting data in a 3x2 grid: random parts of the data on my graphs aren't rendered. Not on screen, not on file, and not when I send the plot to a printer. I don't get any error messages either. When I do the individual plots (not in a grid) they are each rendered correctly. My questions are: - Has anyone encountered something like this,

how to recover a list structure
I am experiencing some problems at working with lists at high level. In the following "coef" contains the original DWT coefficients organized in a list. Thorugh applying the following two commands: coef.abs <- lapply(unlist(coef, recursive=FALSE,use.names =TRUE),abs) coef.abs.sorted <- sort(unlist(coef.abs),decreasing=TRUE) I get vector "coef.abs.sorted" containing

Appending elements to an array
Hi all, I am having a bit of trouble with the array structure of R. What I want to do is dynamically add/remove elements to an array. For example: Let's say I have created an array: > myArray <- array(c(3,8), dim=c(1,2)) > myArray [,1] [,2] [1,] 3 8 And I now want to, for example, push an element (5,6) on to this array so it will read: [,1] [,2] [1,] 3 8

Samba / AD / Winbind issues
List members, I have an issue that I hope one of you can help me with ... I have set up a AD ( 2003 ) as PDC and a RHE3 AS server running Samba V3.0.6-2.3E following the instructions in the HOW-TO- By example. Here is what I have at the moment .. I had no problems adding the RH server to the Domain and I have Winbind set up in the nsswitch.conf file for passwd, group and hosts I

Would difference in size (and content) of a file on replicated bricks be healed?
Hi... Started playing with gluster. And the heal functions is my "target" for testing. Short description of my test ---------------------------- * 4 replicas on single machine * glusterfs mounted locally * Create file on glusterfs-mounted directory: date >data.txt * Append to file on one of the bricks: hostname >>data.txt * Trigger a self-heal with: stat data.txt =>

extracting one element of correlation matrices from a list poroduced by the 'by' statement
I am producing 2X2 correlation matrices by a class variable. I need to extract a vector of correlation coefficients only. I am doing that in a loop (see below) but I am sure there would be a simpler way. Please help! > by(d1[,c(2,3)],d1[,1],cor) d1[, 1]: 1 c e c 1.0000000 0.1972309 e 0.1972309 1.0000000

How to solve a non-linear system of equations using R
Dear R-list members, I've had a hard time trying to solve a non-linear system (nls) of equations which structure for the equation i, i=1,...,4, is as follows: f_i(d_1,d_2,d_3,d_4)-k_i(l,m,s) = 0 (1) In the expression above, both f_i and k_i are known functions and l, m and s are known constants. I would like to estimate the vector d=(d_1,d_2,d_3,d_4) which is solution
