quota broken for large NFS mount
Should I report this as a bug somewhere? Or is it just a problem with the old fedora box, probably fixed long ago and not relevant to the centos list? On the server side, theme4, a very old fedora box, exports t4d5 via NFS. t4d5 is big, has lots of space, and the user tobiasf has plenty of quota: [root at theme4 ~]# quota -vls tobiasf|grep sdf /dev/sdf1 1312G 4578G 4769G

Drawing maps in R?
What tools and documentation exist for producing maps and working with polygon and polylist objects in R beyond the following: * Packages maps, mapproj, maptools, and mapdata. * Becker and Wilks (1993, 1995), listed as references in the documentation on the "map" function. Thanks, Spencer Graves

map does not display maps, MacOSX
Hi, I installed the maps and mapdata libraries on my R-1.8.0 on MacOSX 10.2.8 (jaguar on a powerbook G4), and failed to make the map function work properly: R : Copyright 2003, The R Development Core Team Version 1.8.0 (2003-10-08) [...] > library(maps) > map() Error in file(file, "r") : unable to open connection In addition: Warning message: cannot open file

separate maps in one figure
My aim is to create a figure consisting of three maps: Alaska in the upper left corner, the 48 contiguous US states in the center right, and Hawaii in the lower left corner. In some ways the figure I'm trying to create is analogous to figure 1.5 in Paul Murrell's excellent "R Graphics", which combines a map of New Zealand with a map of the world. I tried adapting the code

Theora decoding problem on PowerPC
Hi, I'm attempting to decode Theora videos on a PowerPC running a Linux 2.6.19 kernel. The version of GCC I'm cross-compiling from is 3.4.4. The software versions I'm running are: libogg-1.1.3 libpng-1.2.20 libtheora-1.0beta1 libvorbis-1.2.0 These are all the latest I was able to download. Here's a back trace I got while running "dump_video" under

PBSmapping problems with importGSHHS
Dear List, I am trying to use the PBSmapping package to import and plot the shoreline of Hawaii. I am having problems importing and plotting the specific regions that I would like to plot. Specifically, I can't get it to import the range of x variables that I would like. I think my problem is with a variable called xoff, but I have no idea what it is, what it does, or how I am supposed to

Accurate area map projections
Hi, Could any one point me to the projection, and parameters if necessary, that would show each country/continent with it's area accurately refelcted on the plot? E.g. aitoff vs. albers vs. bonne vs. cylequalearea vs. guyou - they don't all look the same to mee but some of the documentations suggests they are equal area? Of course this isn't my field, so I am largely guessing and am

diffusing GIS data in maps
Hi- I am trying to find a way to diffuse GIS data on a European map. I have a dataset consisting of particular locations scattered across Europe, along with magnitude and value information. I can plot these as discrete points with something like the following: "geocode" is a dataframe with four columns: LAT; LONG; MAGNITUDE;VALUE. library(maps) library(mapdata)

help with maps : center on the dateline
Hi, I'm trying to plot a map of the pacific ocean, centered on the dateline, using the maps package. library(maps) # Basic library to draw maps library(mapdata)# Library with specialized maps library(mapproj) map(database = "world", fill = TRUE, col = 1, plot = TRUE,add=F, xlim = c(120,300), ylim = c(-20,40)) I tried several different combinations of coordinates, but whatever

thematic map of USA
My goal is to prepare a thematic map of the US, with states shaded according to their values for a variable of interest. I would like to include an inset for Alaska in the upper left and an inset for Hawaii in the lower left. If possible, I'd like to use Albers conic projection, or something similar. Thus far I have tried using the maps package with its state database (which omits

labels on map
dear all: Im trying to obtain maps on R, under mapdata library, but I cannot define the labels. Here is an example: library(mapdata) map("worldHires", c("portugal","spain"),ylim=c(34,46),xlim=c(-14,3.5)) axis(1,at=seq(-12,3,3)) axis(2) when I try the parameter xlab or ylab in axis, i get: parameter "ylab" couldn't be set in high-level plot()

what to do about [abrt] full crash report kernel taint?
I have a machine with a recent install of centos (2.6.32-220.2.1.el6.x86_64 kernel). It crashed 3 times this week, and sent emails like the one below complaining about kernel taint. I've gone back to a previous kernel to see if that helps, but otherwise I don't know how to investigate this. What should I do? Here's stuff from the log and one of the emails:

add city and point in the map
Dear Helpers: I'm trying to use packages "maps" and "mapdata" (see blow) to display the research resutls on map (Mid-Atlantic region). In particular, I need to mark a number of points in the map by giving their latitude and longitude information. For instance, I would like to mark a point on (long, lat) =(75.56027, 39.09271). Also, I need to mark several cities that I

polygons on scatterplot3d
Does anyone have any experience plotting complex polygons on a scatterplot3d display? I would like to present some spatially binned data in a 3-d type plot with background polygons (i.e.. a filled coastline map). I can get the coastline onto the plot window as a line type but cannot figure out how to fill the shape. I'm certain it may be possible but might require a bit of digging

Dampening the spline interpolation for contours
Hello all, I'm very new to R and am having some trouble with the results of the interp function. I'm trying to produce a chart roughly akin to a weather map with natural looking filled contours over a large region of the south pacific. I've got a list of points and values to be mapped to those points and I use the interp function as follows: tab<-read.table("data.txt")
