find_by_content result set
Hi Guys I''m experiencing with AAF and Ferret with the intention of deploying into the site that I am working on now. So I setup AAF to index 3 fields that I have in this model and i tried doing a find_by_contents and it returned the #<FerretMixin::Acts::ARFerret::SearchResults:0xb74b5bec @total_hits=1157, @results=[#<Payprofile:0xb74cc39c @attributes={"add...... but it

Strange indexing issues with CachedModel, STI, and AAF
I started using robotcoop''s CachedModel class in my project but have encountered problems when using it with the acts_as_ferret plugin. It seems it doesn''t index everything in my STI model, also if I do a search from my base STI class I get a result count but no results. If I run the same search from one of the children STI models I get the appropriate results (if the information

respond_to? in acts_as_ferret results
acts_as_ferret''s search results use #method_missing to forward method calls to the underlying result object. However, those methods are represented in #respond_to? Here''s a simple fix for that: module FerretMixin module Acts module ARFerret class SearchResults def respond_to?(name) self.methods.include?(name) || @results.respond_to?(name)

find_by_contents not returning SearchResults?
The acts_as_ferret documentation says find_by_content returns an instance of SearchResults, but I see this error when I try to use the results. undefined method `total_hits'' for []:Array Here is the link to the documentation: http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/rdoc/classes/FerretMixin/Acts/ARFerret/ClassMethods.html#M000010 But here is the actual code: result =

ANN: acts_as_ferret
Hi all This week I have worked with Rails and Ferret to test Ferrets (and Lucenes) capabilities. I decided to make a mixin for ActiveRecord as it seemed the simplest possible solution and I ended up making this into a plugin. For more info on Ferret see: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/ The plugin is functional but could easily be refined. Anyway I want to share it with you. Regard it as a

Wrong total_hits when using conditions in find_by_contents
In my model Topic: acts_as_ferret({ :fields => {:username => {:store => :yes, :boost => 30}, :subject => {:store => :yes, :boost => 20}, :body => {:store => :yes, :boost => 10}}, :remote => true }, { :analyzer => Ferret::Analysis::RegExpAnalyzer.new(/./, false) }) def self.full_text_search(q, options = {}, find_options = {}) return nil if q.nil? or

problems after gem update
Hi, I had ferret working wonderfully but i am regretting doing a gem update today. I had alot of trouble first installing it and was really happy to have it working. The upgrade was from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0. The problem is; in the rails console, >> @results = Book.find_by_contents("peter pan") => #<ActsAsFerret::SearchResults:0x487040c @total_hits=0, @results=[]> Its indexing

Can''t search fields with space
Hi, I have a user model that has a city field which is searchable using acts_as_ferret. But I can''t get it to return any result whether I use :city => {:store => :no, :index => :untokenized}, or :city => {:store => :no} in my User model''s acts_as_ferret option >>> User.find_by_contents("city:(cal poly)") =>

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all, I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the indications @ http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop words : "fax" and "gsm". test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a stop word. => I get a

acts_as_ferret highlight
I am getting nil returned when doing the following: r.highlight(@condition, :field => ''body'') ''r'' is an instance of the a_a_f model. ''body'' is a tokenized saved field. I am running latest ferret and a_a_f trunk. Am I doing something wrong? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Rewarding exact matches
Is there a way I can get ferret to give the highest ranking to an exact term match? The problem I have right now is that I am searching both title and body fields, so even if I boost the title field, if the body has more instances of the query, then it gets pushed up in rank. I would like for ferret to put exact matches (of the title field) at the very top of the pile, so if I do a

How do you use acts_as_ferret without rails?
I am currently using activerecord without rails and I''d like to use the acts_as_ferret plugin as it works well with activerecord. How do I take advantage of the acts_as_ferret without rails installed? Is this possible? If someone could provide me with direction on how this would be done, that would be greatly appreciated. I assume that since active record works without rails that all

acts_as_ferret: case insensitive search
How can I index and search RoR model objects in a case insensitive manner? In Ferret there is the LowerCaseFilter (http://ferret.davebalmain.com/api/classes/Ferret/Analysis/LowerCaseFilter.html). How can I utilize it and other filters with acts_as_ferret? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

How do I get it to index that data, or when does it index that data? Charlie -- Posted via

[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi! Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local to remote indexing and back :-) If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high load, you really should give this a try. I wrote some documentation to get you

return ONLY total_hits without querying from real database
Hey guys, I know I can run search(q).total_hits, but if I try to put :limit=>0 it gives me an error. I don''t want it actually query any of the results, I just want it to tell me how many total_hits I would have if I wanted to search it. How can I do this? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Parallel indexing doesn''t work?
Hi, I''m trying to get parallelized ferret indexing working for my AAF indices, based on the example in the O''Reilly Ferret shortcut. However, the resulting indices after merging seem to have no actual documents. I went and made minimal changes to the example in the Ferret shortcut pdf, and indeed can''t get that to work either. I''d appreciate any help
