Building manuals are failing now that MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe
According to the MikTex bug reports [1], MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe last week (on 2015-09-29) as "it was not compatible (anymore) with the original shell script texi2dvi (GNU Texinfo)." I found this out the hard way as I just (unknowingly) updated MikTex this evening, and then, while building R-devel_2015-10-08 on Windows7 64bit using the Rtools 3.3 toolchain (4.9.3 branch), had

R-exts.texi in SVN version 36380
G'day all, after issuing `svn up' on my machine this morning, I noticed that `make info' choked on R-exts.texi. Below is a patch that seems to solve the problem. BTW, while `make info' runs now, I still get the following warning: /usr/bin/makeinfo --enable-encoding -D UseExternalXrefs -I/opt/src/R-devel-src/doc/manual /opt/src/R-devel-src/doc/manual/R-exts.texi

r-base build: failure to convert R-FAQ to pdf
We have received an email in Ubuntu alerting us that something strange was going on during the r-base 2.7.1 rc build (see [1]). It seems that there is an error during the convertion of R-FAQ.texi to pdf. The following excerpt, taken from [2], shows the problem: /bin/sh: line 0: test: too many arguments TEXINPUTS=".:$TEXINPUTS" /usr/bin/texi2dvi --texinfo="@set UseExternalXrefs

compiling R-devel
Hello. I am in a habit of compiling daily snapshots of R-devel and R-patched on my Windows XP workstation. I have cygwin environment with up-to-date RTools and MiKTeX. I run cygwin and MiKTeX upadaters pretty often (every couple of days) so both of them are reasonably current. Recently I noticed a small annoyance when compiling R-dvel. It started happening right after I updated to the new

Building manuals are failing now that MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe
Hmm, look in MkRules.dist for the setting you failed to make .... Obviously available in R-patched and R-devel only as we cannot foretell such changes. Problem Sweaving vignettes: MiKTeX's texi2dvi reports errors
Hi, I am trying to create a Bioconductor package. Everything installs and checks fine. Now I'm on my last step, which is to create a vignette. I'm trying to test the Sweave process, to make sure I can build a vignette. I am stuck at the texi2dvi stage, which fails when I try to process the example Sweave-test-1.tex file. I am using Windows binary R distributions, and have the same

Finding Sweave.sty and other problems
Hi, I've just tried to run example-3 from Friedrich Leish. I'm using R 1.8.1 and MiKTeX 2.2 on Windows XP. I go === > library(tools) > Sweave("example-3.Snw") Writing to file example-3.tex Processing code chunks ... 1 : term hide 2 : echo term verbatim 3 : term tex 4 : term verbatim eps pdf You can now run LaTeX on example-3.tex === The file example-3.tex

Questions about sweave...
Evening all: I'm taking a little time to experiment with R, Sweave, and Miktex/LaTex but I've run up against some problems and -well- I hope that there are some on the list who might have some suggestions. This will be kind of wordy as I will include the complete files involved as I'm just not sure what I'm looking for. Apologies at the outset. I created the source file

Sweve/cacheSweave
Hi there I have a problem with using Sweave in combination with the option driver = cacheSweave. Whichever code I try to run - when it comes to converting the tex file into pdf it comes up with the same errors (\csname \endcsname errors). Does anybody have an idea what it going wrong? > Sweave("pgfSweave-example.Rnw",driver = cacheSweaveDriver) Writing to file

Sweave
I'm trying to (re)learn Sweave and run into some problems. I use now ubuntu (8.10), emacs + ess. Slowly getting upto speed on ess. I have a complete (hopefully) .Rnw file, but the resulting .tex will not compile. The file does not contain anything exotic, but it produces pdf figures, and that is where the problems come: library(tools) > Sweave("varioCoo.Rnw") Writing to file

samba and OS X 10.2.6 problems
I've got a 10.2.6 box that when it copies large files (5-8GB) it will eventually die. This last time I got the end of the transmission with ethereal from the samba server. I did some searching for the "Unknown DOS error (9e)" but couldn't find anything helpful Right after the error is logged the smb share is dumped off the desktop of the Mac, but samba still shows it

Compile R-1.7.0 on Mac OS 10.2.6
Hi, I can't get R-1.7.0 to compile on my Mac. Can someone give me some pointers? The machine is an 800MHz iBook running OS 10.2.6. I have installed the December 2002 Developers Tools and have installed g77, f2c and dlcompat via fink. I've checked the versions of g77 and gcc and they're both based on gcc version 3.1. I've got Apple's X11 (Beta 3). I've added /sw/bin

'Apple' Samba 2.2.3a on OS X 10.2.6 -> Samba 2.2.8a upgrade
Right, well I've just downloaded the source tarball and compiled it all. Turned of Apple samba from 'server settings' and fired up smbd and nmbd by hand... With different log, lock and password directories to Apple samba, btw... /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a root /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a john So far so good. Slow samba access from Mac OS X 10.2.6
Hi, I'm running samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian Linux (i686). The network is 100Mbit switched and I can ftp data off the server at 9Mb/sec. If I use either the Finder GUI under Mac OS X or mount manually via Terminal, and then try to copy a file I get less than 64k/sec! I don't ever remember having much better speeds than this while using the various versions of Mac OS X. Windows

Compiling R for OS X 10.2.6 (Darwin 6.6)
Our lab just picked up a G4 Powerbook (1 GHz, 1GB RAM, OS X 10.2.6). None of us have any experience with Macs but for various reasons we need to have one around for development. In any case, we've installed fink, all the Apple Developer Tools and the Dec2002updater to gcc 3.3. We're now trying to compile R 1.7.1 without too much success. First we had to get g77, which turned out to

CentOS 7 issues with pdf manual / tex conversion
On a CentOS 7 machine, I am at a loss with respect to an inability to run a full R CMD check as anything involving tex files ends in tears. We followed the README at CRAN and installed a large number of tex-live packages on this machine. But when a manual is created, we end up with what follows below. Here, I chopped some of the error messages, the key seems to be 'Insufficient extension

Samba stuck!
Hi I wonder if you can help me. I'm currently studying Networking as a college course and one of the challenges we have been set is to research, then put into practice the mapping of a linux server onto a Windows NT server. I'll be honest with you, I'm very new to all this so I hope I explain this correctly. I have successfully created my own smb.conf file, usernames, areas and a
