Importing TIFF files into a R matrix
Hi
I am facing a problem where I would like to import a TIFF image (of spots on a nylon filter) into R (into a matrix for example). When plotting the matrix using fx. scatterplot3d I would then be able to see how the pixel-intensities are distributed in "spot-areas" on the filter - which would be very helpful.
Does anynone know of a way to do this?
Best regards,

File opening error after 1020 files opened
Hi,
I am trying to use "read.pnm" from the package "pixmap" to read more
than 10 thousand image files in "mydir".
> file.list <- dir( "mydir", full=T)
> for( i in 1:length(file.list) ) {
print(i)
x <- read.pnm(file.list[i])
}
In the beginning it was fine. But after reading 1020 images or so, the
read.pnm function
seems to crash on

about image and rgb
Hi all,
I have a 16 bit image (TIFF) and i want to analyse the pixels distribution.
So, i obtain a matrix which values are between 0 and 2^16 -1.
Now i would like to represnt this image with the fucntions rgb() and
image().
I am not sure , but i think that only 256 colors are available.
So is there a solution to represent all the palette of the colors or i
have to limit
the representations with

Faking it... import local files into attachment_fu
Hello,
I''m working on an import utility that will match the functionality of
uploading an object of a model that uses attachment_fu for
thumbnailing, etc.
Rather than uploading the file via a form, I want to populate the
params[:image][:uploaded_data] with data from a file already on the
server''s file system.
So far, I''ve been able to copy to an instance of Tempfile

Reading graphics files
Is there a tool for reading a graphics file into an object? I might not
be looking with the correct vocabulary, but I'm finding lots of references
to producing graphics from R, but not any for inputting graphics into R.
I'd like to use a jpeg image and have the data available in R for
analysis. I could convert the image to another format, PPM perhaps, and
parse that in, GRASS seems like

finding the colour at a point
I think this was asked recently but I can't find the item.
Is it possible to find the colour at a point on a graphics page?

sampling from an enclosing box ...

display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help
I want to display an image file in a new plot frame.
SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider
PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick).
By way of background (although not material to this
posting), the image file is generated by a call to
'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required
.dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

Plotting using image files
This is a strange request, but I want to build a scatterplot using different image files (jpegs, gif, etc.) as the plot symbols. I have thought about setting this up using a very large layout matrix, but I thought someone might have a better approach. Furthermore, is there any way to have R paste an image file into a specific coordinate within a scatterplot?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

PPM to BMP converter
Dear all,
Several days ago, I posted How to write a bmp file pixel by pixel. Instead of bmp, I succeeded in writing a PPM file by using the pixmap package. Thanks for the hint generously provided by Uwe Ligges.
Now I have a new question. How to convert a PPM file to BMP file in R? I know I can do this in photoshop or by some other softwares, but I think if I Can do this in R, that

gif, jpeg and png image files reader
Hi all,
Although R seems to have jpeg() and png() functions that converts data into
jpeg and png formated files, it
doesn't have functions the other way around.
Does one of R contributed packages have gif, jpeg and png image readers? I
did help.search() but no luck
Regards,
Jonathan

importing images
I would like to import "tif" images in R and I do not find any
function that can do that. In Matlab there exists the function "imread"
that can read the most known images format. Does a similar function
exist for R ?
Thanks in advance

Place a graphic into an R-plot
I have a graphic image in a file (say a *.jpeg or *.png file) and want to
put it into a plot. I have segmented the plot area by means of the layout
function and successfully plotted my data in the appropriate segments. I
cannot find how to put my graphic image onto the same plot. Searching the
archives has shed little light on my challenge.
Many thanks in anticipation.

S4 method dispatch and namespaces: why is default method selected
Hi,
I ran into the following peculiarity involving S4 method dispatch and
namespaces.
I develop a package which have a namespace and which depends on 'pixmap'
package, which itself does not have a namespace.
Now, in my package I have a class which has a slot for objects from
class "pixmap" and I
want to have a "plot" method for this new class. Not to clutter the

SYSLINUX 2.06-pre3
I have released a SYSLINUX 2.06-pre3. This includes modifications to
ppmtolss16 so that it should now be completely compliant with all modes
of the PNM specification, raw/plain, PBM/PGM/PPM, with comment lines or
without.

Please test it out ASAP if at all possible. Since the fixes for -pre1
and -pre2 were pretty essential, I'd like

Raster management data
Hi,
I'm a newbie in R world.
I would like to develop an application that extract contour from objects of
an image.
- Is R able to manage raster data (i.e., images) ?
- Is there a specific package in change of such management ?
I'm specificaly interest in the Canny filter.

overlay two pixmap
Hi
I need to overlay two pixmaps (library (pixmap)). One, a pixmapGrey, is
the basis, and on this I need to overlay a pixmapIndexed, BUT: the
pixmapIndexed has set only some of its "pixels" to an indexed color,
many of its pixels should not cover the basis pixmapGrey pixel, means,
for this "in pixmapIndexed not defined pixels" it should be transparent.
What would you

adding bmp/jpg/gif to an existing plot
Hi, all.
I searched a lot at mailing list, installed EBImage and gtk packages, but I
couldn't make this simple work:
How to add a image file (jpg or bmp ou gif) to an existing plot window (not
plot over the image), like the code below (pseudo function add.image):
plot(1:10,1:10,main="test")
image = read.X("myimage.jpg")
add.image(image, x.left=2, y.bottom=4,
