fitting linear mixed model for incomplete block design
Dear R developers and users:
I have the following data, x is the response vaiable, nsample(individual) nested within trt, and subsample nested within nsample, I want to fit trt as fixed effect, and block, nsample(trt) as random effects using lme, is the following coding correct?
dat$vgrp <- getGroups(dat, form = ~ 1|trt/nsample, level = 2)

Integer vs numeric
Hi the list.
I do not understand the philosophy behind numeric and integer.
- 1 is numeric (which I find surprising)
- 2 is numeric.
- 1:2 is integer.
Why is that ?

dos-attack on inetd.
Hi.
I don''t know if this one is known, but I can''t recall seeing anything
about it. If it is old news I apologize.
I discovered a bug in the inetd that comes with NetKit-B-0-08 and older.
If a single SYN is sent to port 13 of the server, inetd will die of Broken
Pipe:

Still missing something on missing values...
Hi,
I have a SPSS datafile which is used for my textbook in the
statistics (and which is available on
http://abacon.com/fox/s6720p2.sav, but it is originally from
ICPSR).
When I opened it with SPSS 10 and run Frequencies on it I
have got 979 valid data a 27 missing. However, see below
(unfortunately, I have used R in preparation of my homework,
which caused me an error on this):

simplifying code
Dear All,
I was wondering if you could help me with the following:
I have the code:
tin <-0.5
tau <-24
output0 <-10
TIMELOW <-tin
TIMEHIGH <-1*tau
TIME1 <-c(seq(TIMELOW,TIMEHIGH, by = sign(TIMEHIGH-TIMELOW)*(tau-tin)/3))
then I would like to calculate:
cp1 <-output0*exp(-0.3*TIME1[1])
cp2 <-output0*exp(-0.3*TIME1[2])
cp3 <-output0*exp(-0.3*TIME1[3])
cp4

PCI device assignment to guests (userspace)
Userspace patches for the pci-passthrough functionality.
The major updates since the last post are:
- Loop to add passthrough devices in pc_init1
- Handle errors in read/write calls
- Allow invocation without irq number for in-kernel irqchip
Other than this, several small things were fixed according to review comments received last time.

I haven''t debugged this enough to understand what is happening, but I
observe the following:

The first 1) doesn''t match anything in rules or tcrules, the second 2)

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] use-diet for review
Hi all,
I have reported more than enough about the space savings achieved
and the associated costs, here comes the current patch for review.
Since this one is substantially smaller than the previous one, I did
not cut it in pieces. The front part is about headers and the rest
the .cpp and other files.
Cheers,
Gabor

Difficult to set a quiet formula in maanova
Hi,
I am trying to run an analysis with the package maanova and I am not
getting success.
I suppose that I am wrong on set up the formula, so the issue may not
be related to R, properly.
I have two varieties of plants (V1 and V2). A group of each ones were
treated and another was not treated. After treatment, in three
different time RNA was collected from treated and from not treated

re tail case-pack ordering problem - can R help?
I'm a programmer, not a mathmatician. I heard about R, and I'm wondering if
anyone can tell me if there is an existing R function that can help with a
problem we're currently trying to find an algorithm for. If R is not the
answer, but you can recommend a known algorithm, that would help a lot!
I'm on a project in a retail corporation, working on a program to assist
