error in seq.POSIXt?
I am trying to extract only the winters (defined to be 01-Dec through 28-Feb) of daily data from 1948-2002. There are 90 days in each winter season. I wrote the following code to gather the winter dates into a single vector: DJF <- NULL for(year in 1949:1999) { temp.begin <- strptime(paste("01/12", year-1, sep="/"), "%d/%m/%Y") temp.end <-

How to do a trig regression
Hello All, I cant seem to do a trig regression in R. The equation is as follows : y = a+b*(sin((2*pi*x/360) - c))^2 a, b, c are coefs that I want. y, x are input vectors. The equation I put into R: lm(y ~ sin(2*pi*x/360)^2) This equation is missing the c and I dont get the right answer. Also, I dont know how to plot the lm over the x values instead of the indices. Any help is sincerely

Error in colMeans ... what's wrong with my data?
Having searched and searched I still haven't found what's the problem with my data (I've attached the relevant file). Every time I tried to use the CANCOR-Function I got error messages. So I turned to check my two sets of variables separately by using the "colMeans"-Function. With one set no problem .. but with the other. My input : > struktur <-

Autocorrelation using acf
Dear R list As suggested by Prof Brian Ripley, I have tried to read acf literature. The main problem is I am not the statistician and hence have some problem in understanding the concepts immediately. I came across one literature (http://www.stat.nus.edu.sg/~staxyc/REG32.pdf) on auto-correlation giving the methodology. As per that literature, the auto-correlation is arrived at as per following.

Schoenfeld residuals for a null model coxph
Hi, I have a coxph model like coxph(Surv(start, stop, censor) ~ x + y, mydata) I would like to calculate the Schoenfeld residuals for the null, i.e the same model where the beta hat vector (in practical terms, the coeff vector spat out by summary()) is constrained to be all 0s --all lese stays the same. I could calculate it by hand, but I was wondering if there is a way of doing it with
