plugin versioning
When I install a plugin, does Rails record the version installed anywhere? Maybe I''m not doing it the "right" way, but I''ve excluded vendors from my source repository. I''d like some ''record'' of what plugins are used that is under source control. David

LoginEngine problems
I''m trying to get a simple authentication system going for a small rails app. After much research, it looks like LoginEngine should do exactly what I want. Now, the documentation is somewhat confusing to me when looked at in the light of reality. There are some places that say you have to install the "engines" plugin. But, I cannot find such a beast. So, I installed the

Multiple Model Validation
Hey All ! I have a form which contains two models. I would like both models to be validated, but have their validations aggregated on the page. If I do: <%= error_messages_for(:model1) %> <%= error_messages_for(:model2) %> It puts two big validation blocks on the page. I would like all the errors from both models, but only in one validation box. Is this possible ? All my attempts

MySql 4.0.16 and Migrations
It appears that you cannot use migrations (out of the box) with mysql 4.0.16, because when creating a table, the statement says "ENGINE=InnoDb", instead of "TYPE=InnoDB". Looking at the source code for the adapter, this appears to be hard coded. Is there any supported way to make this work with older versions of MySQL? David

Validation to make sure associations don''t change?
I have a main form representing the model, let''s call that ''Order'', and a partial displaying its'' OrderLines. I use the bulk update methods to initialize model objects directly from form data, leaving validation of business logic to the model. As AR likes to write stuff before i do an explicit save, I wrap the whole update in a manual transaction. This works

How to skip password validation when updating other fields?
Besides the hashed password, which is saved to db, I have two password-attributes in my User model: attr_accessor :password, :password_confirmation I have validations on these attributes, and I need them to work both on create and update, since I have pages for changing and resetting the password. Now when I want to update just the user''s login name, I guess I have the next

why validation on server side
hi, i have noticed that the validations in RoR happen at server side mostly what sites do is using javascript they validate user information there... whats the point of doing it at the server side is it that loading of javascript file in a browser makes a response to client slow and validation at server side offsets that....????? any sugeestions???? is it that i am missing something as

Initial Sequence Numbers (ISN) vulnerability
FYI On the ISN vulnerability I found a really good article on Initial Sequence Numbers (ISN) vulnerability and according to this article all Linux Kernels after 1996 are not affected by this vulnerability. http://www.linuxsecurity.com/articles/security_sources_article-2968.html I found another article that stated : Operating systems that have been reported to be safe from practical attacks

logistic regression model + Cross-Validation
Hi, I am trying to cross-validate a logistic regression model. I am using logistic regression model (lrm) of package Design. f <- lrm( cy ~ x1 + x2, x=TRUE, y=TRUE) val <- validate.lrm(f, method="cross", B=5) My class cy has values 0 and 1. "val" variable will give me indicators like slope and AUC. But, I also need the vector of predicted values of class variable

Either/Or Validation
How would I use validations to ensure I either received a blank value or a ten digit number? If I set validates_length_of :field, :in => 0..10 then that would allow any value in-between. The allow_nil => true option does not seem to work. I''ve also tried using this with some combination of validates_numericality_of but cannot get it to work. Any help would be greatly

Consequences of overriding update_attribute to force validation?
I know the debate of whether this should validate has been rehashed many times. My question is, what are the consequences of overriding this method to force validation? Will this break fundamental things? Will it break plugins? Is there a reason not to have a strict validation option? In my code I will never use this as I consider it a terribly broken method, but some gems use it and in one case

validation of aggregates
This may not be possible... I have an aggregation of clwholename defined in my model. the aggregation builds clwholename from :first_name, middle_initial, last_name and it generally works fine. I am trying to add a validation so while there may be many ''John'' first_names, and ''Doe'' last_names, I only want one ''John Doe'' so I tried...
