merging or joining 2 dataframes: merge, rbind.fill, etc.?
#I want to "merge" or "join" 2 dataframes (df1 & df2) into a 3rd (mydf). I want the 3rd dataframe to contain 1 row for each row in df1 & df2, and all the columns in both df1 & df2. The solution should "work" even if the 2 dataframes are identical, and even if the 2 dataframes do not have the same column names. The rbind.fill function seems to work. For

split & rbind (cast) dataframe
Hi, I would like to split dataframe based on one colum and want to connect the two dataframes by rows (like rbind). Here a small example: # The orgininal dataframe df1 <- data.frame(col1 = c("A","A","B","B"),col2 = c(1:4), col3 = c(1:4)) # The datafame how it could look like df2 <- data.frame(A.col2 = c(1,2), A.col3 = c(1,2), B.col2 = c(3,4), B.col3

rbind
Hi list, I have been trying to pileup dataframes with different column names using rbind. I am getting the following error message. I was wondering if there is a way to go around this minor problem? Error in match.names(clabs, names(xi)) : names don't match previous names: G Thanks indeed for your information Regards Mahdi -- ----------------------------------- Mahdi Osman (PhD)

vertically concatenating data frames
Hi, what is the recommended way to vertically concatenate 2 data frames with the same column names but different number of rows? My problem is something along these lines: df1 <- data.frame(var1=var1,var2=var2,var3=var3) # nrow(df1)=1000 df2 <- data.frame(var1=var4,var2=var5,var3=var6) # nrow(df2)=2000 I tried df <- c(df1,df2), no success. stack does not seem to be appropriate

rbind: inconsistent behaviour with empty data frames?
The rbind on empty and nonempty data frames behaves inconsistently. I am not sure if by design. In the first example, first row is deleted, which may or may not be on purpose: df1 <- data.frame() df2 <- data.frame(foo=c(1, 2), bar=c("a", "b")) rbind(df1, df2) foo bar 2 2 b Now if we continue: df1 <- data.frame(matrix(0, 0, 2)) names(df1) <- names(df2)

Adding data.frames together
I have a series of data frames that are identical structurally, i.e. - made with the same code, but I need to add them together so that they become one, longer, data frame, i.e. - each of the slot vectors are increased in length by the length of the added data frame vectors. So if I have df1 with a slot A so that length(df1$A) = 100 and I have df2 with a slot A so that length(df2$A)=200 then I

rbind with partially overlapping column names
Hello, I would like to merge two data frames with partially overlapping column names with an rbind-like operation. For the follow data frames, df1 <- data.frame(a=c("A","A"),b=c("B","B")) df2 <- data.frame(b=c("b","b"),c=c("c","c")) I would like the output frame to be (with NAs where the frames don't

Compare two dataframes
Hello, I have two dataframes DF1 and DF2 that should be identical but are not (DF1 has some rows that aren't in DF2, and vice versa). I would like to produce a new dataframe DF3 containing rows in DF1 that aren't in DF2 (and similarly DF4 would contain rows in DF2 that aren't in DF1). I have a solution for this problem (see self contained example below) but it's awkward and

median value dataframe coming from multiple dataframes
Hi all, I am not a skillful R programmer and has I am handling with large dataframes (about 30000 x 300) I am in need of an efficient function. I have 4 dataframes with the same dimension. I need to generate other dataframe with the some dimension than the others where in each position it has the median value of the 4 values in the same position coming from the 4 dataframes. Extracting the name of an object into a character string
Dear List, I am writing a function in R with the facility to store models for later use in scoring. It would be very useful if I could include in the name of the file stored the name of the model object being stored, this name being chosen by the user in the function call. A simple function to store the name of an object as a character string would fit the bill, but I have not found one. name()

Union of two data frames
Hi, I have two data frames each with 5 columns and different number of rows. some of the row names in one data frame are the same as the row names in the other. I want to be able to merge the two data frames to get a new data frame in which the duplicated row names are only shown once with the data for the rest of the columns used from the first data frame. Essentially, I want to make a union

splitting into multiple dataframes and then create a loop to work
Dear All Sorry for this simple question, I could not solve it by spending days. My data looks like this: # data set.seed(1234) clvar <- c( rep(1, 10), rep(2, 10), rep(3, 10), rep(4, 10)) # I have 100 level for this factor var; yvar <- rnorm(40, 10,6); var1 <- rnorm(40, 10,4); var2 <- rnorm(40, 10,4); var3 <- rnorm(40, 5, 2); var4 <- rnorm(40, 10, 3); var5 <- rnorm(40, 15,

Select rows based on matching conditions and logical operators

R runs in a usual way, but simulations are not performed
Dear addresses, I need perform a batch of 10 000 simulations for each of 4 options considered. (The idea is to obtain the parameter estimates in a heteroskedastic linear regression model - with additive or mixed heteroskedasticity - via the Kenward-Roger small-sample adjusted covariance matrix of disturbances). For this purpose I wrote an R program which would capture all possible options (true
