testing ajax responder actions
I have an Ajax responder method which uses respond_to to make sure it only works with Ajax. I''m having trouble figuring out how to call this action successfully. I''m using Rails 1.2.x. Any thoughts? -- Cheers, Kevin Williams http://www.almostserio.us/ "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic." - Arthur C. Clarke

RE: Prototype Ajax - How to pass my own params toonComplete ?
You need a closure. onComplete: function (response) { NamedActionResponseHandler(theElement, response); } Is that what you mean? draft-proposal for Ajax.History - History/Bookmark handling in Ajax apps
Hi list, In one of my previous projects I had to satisfy the requirement of handling browser back- and forward calls within an Ajax application. Thus I didn''t get an urge to switch the JS part of this project to an other framework like dojo (which supports Browser history handling out-of-the-box), I had to come up with an idea of doing this with prototype/scriptaculous. request.xhr? is false after redirecting an AJAX request?
Dear everybody I''m trying to develop a web application that makes use of AJAX, but also works if a user has no (or doesn''t want to use) JS. For normal requests, this is pretty easy. Almost every action ends with render blahblah, :layout => !request.xhr? This way, I can use the same action to render a full page (with layout) as well as rendering an AJAX request (only the

Re: Ajax.Request question with JSON return
Do I need something like this: eval(''('' + this.header(''X-JSON'') + '')'') (taken from Cody Swann, http://ajaxian.com/archives/prototype-extension-dynamic-script-pattern-support ). I''m guessing my problem is simpler, and I''m leaving something small out related to the header though. Thanks for any help -Mark 1. evalJSON:

AJAX request not setting Accept header
I''m trying to stay DRY and use respond_to as I move to AJAX in my apps, but I''m getting some mysterious behavior. Here''s a simple form I''m testing with: <%= form_remote_tag :url => {:action => ''submit''} %> <%= submit_tag ''Go'' %> <%= end_form_tag %> When I submit the following HTTP request is sent:

Ajax.Request -post
Hello SpinDoctors, I am fairly new to prototype js framework. I love it. Have various Ajax -get calls... which work wonderful... Suddenly, realised that in one case I have to use ''post'' to overcome the limitation on URL length... Have changed the parameters to suit to ''post'' request, but nothing happens... need your help... function getOptionalGroups(key){

Prototype Ajax - How to pass my own params to onComplete ?
Sorry if this has been covered before, i can''t imagine it hasn''t, but i''ve been unable to find any information on it. Can i pass my own parameters to the onComplete function specified by Ajax.Request ? My basic setup is i have an html element triggering an event (the ajax update). I have additional information encoded into the element about how it should handle

Ajax.Request: onLoading executed after onComplete in IE
Hi, i''m trying to use a visual indicator for my Ajax requests. It''s based on the shopping cart demo at script.aculo.us and works great in Firefox, Konqueror and Opera, but fails in IE6. For some reason (timing problems?) onComplete is executed before onLoading, so the indicator is shown but not hidden when the request has finished. Oddly enough it works fine in the shopping

Ajax.Updater from within an IFrame
Hello together. I''m trying to call an Ajax.Updater from within an IFrame to update an element in the parent window. It is working, but I receive an error from Firefox when I do so. What I want to do is to upload a file, and then after the file has completed uploading, automatically reload a section of the page with information about the file to post-process it. However, AJAX

Rails AJAX slow compared to Node.js and websockets complex to implement in rails ?
I have heard alot about Node.js and watched a few tutorials and read some stuff. I get the impression that in certain situations AJAX calls with node.js is alot faster than with rails. I also have somewhat of an impression that with Rails web sockets are complicated to implement but with node.js web sockets might be alot easier. I am trying to figure out if I should learn some node.js or

Which JS/Ajax library to use with RoR
Hello, I am beginning to soak myself into JS/Ajax stuff and I am quite confused because of the myriad of AJAX books/frameworks - Its even worse than RoR in this sense (i.e. in the case of RoR, half of the people are writing books on it, and i believe this value is even higher with AJAX ;-) Of course this is not a bad thing, but if a newbie has to choose something it can be really hard. So my

Ajax calls in application.js (authenticity_token problem?)
Hi, I have a long list (~50) of items which should each be clickable and will send an Ajax request to the server. Now, each item will be calling the same action, just with a different id. Ideally this looks like a clear case of putting the Ajax javascript in application.js. It''s in one place, just call a single function onclick and pass through the id. However there are 2 issues: 1. ajax problem when switching from prototype to jquery
I have an old Rails application that I''d previously upgraded to Rails 3.1 with a lot of legacy features left on; now I want to switch to using jQuery instead of Prototype, and switch to using the asset pipeline. I''m trying to tackle the first of those; no idea if that''s wise, maybe I should start with the asset pipeline instead? To switch to jQuery, I added gem

[PATCH] Allow generic autocompleter (Ajax.Watcher)
Hey. Below is a patch to allow generic Ajax.Autocompleters. Basically it''s for people who wanna be able to watch an input for changes, but don''t want it to pop up an autocompleter box below. Useful for live previews, that kind of thing. Someone''s gonna have to fix the tabstops. I couldn''t be arse to work out how to make vim do the softtabs properly. Spaces for
