Automatic reindexing of associated columns acts_as_taggable
Hi, So i''m trying to use acts_as_taggable with the acts_as_ferret plugin, where I have Post.rb model, which has a method tag_list made available through acts_as_taggable, as returns a string of associated tag words from the tags table (tag.rb). I''ve set up my Post.rb model in the following way. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_taggable acts_as_ferret

Can''t disable ferret when running in Mongrel
In my environment.rb I say the following: MyModel.disable_ferret puts MyModel.ferret_enabled? The console works as expected: script/console false >> MyModel.ferret_enabled? => false I can then edit an instance, ferret remains disabled and the changes are not immediately indexed. However, when I start mongrel Ferret is initially disabled, but then somehow becomes enabled again

disabling automatic indexing in acts_as_ferret
I''d like to be able to enable/disable the automatic indexing of documents acts_as_ferret does. Something like MyModel.disable_indexing MyModel.enable_indexing would be perfect. I need this because I do some indexing that requires visiting the parents of the model objects and my import method imports the children first, so the information isn''t there yet. I''d like to

Lock errors and segfaults
Greetings, I''ve been using ferret with great results now for a while, but in the last week, I''ve been running into some issues. I will occasionally see this message: Exception Message: Lock Error occured at <except.c>:103 in xpop_context Error occured in index.c:5368 - iw_open Couldn''t obtain write lock when opening IndexWriter Which is accompanied by

Update/Create record only if field is true
I have a sellable flag in my database. I''m trying to have ferret only add/update records where sellable == true. What is the best way to do this? I''ve tried editing instance_methods.rb in the AAF, but I still can''t get it to work. Thanks for the help -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Is it possible to work without DRB
Hi, I am looking for solution to work with ferret without DRB. I would like to turn off ferret indexing from application and use existing ferret index only for searching (read only), while I would create indexes once a day from script. Is it possible and how to turn indexing off and would ferret still complain if 2 mongrels try to open index file. thanks, Bojan -- Posted via

Locking issues when adding to the Index
Hi, I keep getting locking errors when updating my index which puzzles me since only one process is supposed to be accessing the index at a time (at least in development mode). I''m using Ferret with Rails (NOT acts_as_ferret, though) and employed an observer to add a new document to the index when a new ActiveRecord is created. I''m not sure if this has any impact on the

But recently we''ved tried adding many new ContentItems (only thing being index by Ferret at the moment), and things came crashing to a halt. ferret gem: 0.10.9 acts_as_ferret plugin (not sure which version) How we''re using the plugin: class ContentItem < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_ferret

Questions about table association while using acts_as_ferret
Hi all, I''m quite new to ferret and acts_as_ferret and what to see if I can implement the following requirement using them. Suppose I have two model classes: Article and Comment. It''s obvious that one article may have many comments, so this is a one-many relationship. If I want to add full text search to these models, I''m supposed to use acts_as_ferret in both of the

[Tweaking-Typo-4.0.3] acts_as_ferret `method_missing''
Hey Folks, after following the instructions for tweaking Typo to use rather ferret than DB queries to search article I got a strange NoMethod error when starting the console or the server scripts. /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.4/lib/active_record/base.rb:1129:in `method_missing'':NoMethodError: undefined method `acts_as_ferret'' for Content:Class As you can

aaf and stop words; query parser
I''ve been trying to implement acts_as_ferret in my latest project and ran into a snag. If I do a search for ''auditor state'' then the search works perfectly. If I include a stop word, as in ''auditor of state'', then I get no results. I''d prefer not to set stop words to nil and index everything. The solution, that I have yet to attempt, is to use

ferret acts_as_ferret and performance
hello, I am actually indexing thousands of 1ko text documents using ferret and acts_as_ferret, and i face performance problems. I takes me hours to index 20 000 1ko text documents. Methology used : I create and object, fulfill it with the text, and save it. So it is automaticly indexed. Is there a way to make it faster ? ( remove the auto optimize option somewhere ?) Thank you if you have any

How index works!
Hi, i''ve a project in wich i have 2 different rails apps accessing the same DB. The backoffice, as usual, changes data. The frontoffice has a search capabilities with acts_as_ferret (paginated) for search. using highlight from aaf
Hi, I''m trying to use highlight ferret method with trunk aaf and 0.10.1 ferret. In my search display I use: Myindexedclass.ferret_index.searcher.highlight(@query, result_line.id, :content) * searcher is a protected method; how can I access to the searcher from aaf ? * is the doc id in aaf the same as my model id ? * is the first param, query, the string query or the query object ?
