logos and goodies
I've got a couple questions related to my search (in vain) for an "R" tshirt
or coffee mug. The first question is simply: is there a higher-resolution
R logo available than the one at r-developer.org? (or the modified one
provided by useR conference pages)
Next: what are the chances of someone in the "R management" setting up a

FastCgiExternalServer vs. static/dynamic
I''m trying to switch to the "external" fcgi method.
In httpd.conf, this works:
FastCgiServer "/tmp/rubystuff/testapp/public/dispatch.fcgi"
-idle-timeout 20 -processes 4
FastCgiConfig -maxClassProcesses 2 -maxProcesses 2 -minProcesses 1
-processSlack 1
This fails with an error (the public/500.html page is returned):

Hype: The time quest won't install.
Hype is a Win95/98/ME 3D action game that has always been a favorite of mine. The demo installed fine, so I decided to get my full copy and try it out.
For some reason, when it tries to install, it gives this at the beginning:
fixme:vxd:VXD_Open Unknown/unsupported VxD L"sice.vxd". Try setting Windows version to 'nt40' or 'win31'.
However, that goes away and it starts

Ruby/Rails T-Shirts/graphics?
Hey, I was just wondering - are there any Ruby and/or Rails t-shirts
available? Or nice, big graphics available to make your own?

Hype The Time Quest Regression
There's an old Ubisoft game called "Hype the Time Quest".
For many Wine versions, Wine could not get past the Hype installer. It would go up to 117% and fail. Then a version came where if you unchecked the DirectX check, the install would work (or maybe that's all you had to do to begin with). But the game would fail to start with an error about MaiD3Dvr_bleu.exe. Then a Wine

apache2 / fcgi / RoR - no connection
Hi,
I''ve generated a new Rails app and dummy controller "foo" with method
"hello". I am trying to run it under Apache/2.0.53 with fastcgi, and
getting the index.html page when I hit http://localhost/foo/hello, or
for any other request (http://localhost/kdjfslkfjs). Also, there is
nothing in the rails logs, and no errors in the apache logs.

Ideas for Rails Shirt Graphics
I''ve had a couple ideas for Ruby on Rails shirt graphics for a little
while now:
1. "Fuck You" superimposed over, oh, probably a Ruby gem. Or Rails of
some sort.
2. "Ruby on Rails" superimposed over rails of cocaine. Maybe also with a
graphic of a crazed looking coder.
Anybody got graphics? Or can make them? Heh!

Official CentOS CD/DVD Vendor Program
All,
I would like to announce our Official CentOS CD/DVD Vendor Program.
We currently have 3 vendors, and 2 more who are putting together their
information. (Not bad ... the official program has been going for less
than 12 hours :)
The details of the program (how to get in it, what they give back to the
CentOS Project, etc.) are here:

I forgot. Why do we hate* Java?
Hi,
I''ve started reading some Java books. Gasp! What makes website
development with Java so bad? I haven''t looked at Struts but I''m
reading about Hibernate. Compared to ActiveRecord, Hibernate seems
like some extra typing to explicitly define the model fields, getters
and setters. I know that these are things that you can do in
ActiveRecord when things get complicated

Everyone wants a RoR framework
It seems like everyone now has a RoR type framework:
Perl:
http://dev.catalyst.perl.org/
PHP:
http://cakephp.org/
Python:
http://www.django.com
ASP.NET:
http://www.castleproject.org/index.php/Main_Page
etc., etc.
Has a revolution begun with the birth of these "Web 2.0" frameworks?
Its going to be interesting when the tech media begins its mass hype
like it did SOAP, XML, etc. a
