Is AJAX/RJS secure enough for enterprise data hanling?
Sure, AJAX and RJS provide snappier performance by reducing the hits on the server. But, is it easily hacked in a RoR application? Can it be made as secure as a non-ajax web -app? -- Best Regards, -Larry "Work, work, work...there is no satisfactory alternative." --- E.Taft Benson -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Confusion over xiph.org license
Hello there, My situation is as follows: =we make commercial freeware/shareware games =our games are released without code and can NOT be modified or have projects based on it. =would like to use Speex functions (library) within the game for some vocal sound effects, it would basically be a part of the EXE itself. Under the Xiph.org license, it states: "Redistributions in binary form must

dbPowerAMP, CDex / Re: Freeware windows ogg audio CD bur ner?
There's another nice Windows program in the pipeline: Feurio 2.0 (www.feurio.de) will have OggVorbis and MonkeyAudio support. Feurio is a all-in-one solution for CD ripping/burning specialized on audio CD. Feurio supports high speed, high-quality on-the-fly ripping and encoding, and on-the-fly decoding/burning, too. Feurio supports allmost all available CD writers, and there is a

Widespread implementation of rsync
I came to know about rsync algorithm for transferring files few days ago. The algorithm provides an efficient way to transfer files from one computer to another over a slow communication link. But I have been wondering why don't we see a widespread implementation of rsync in most popular file transfer tools. I know that the algorithm was conceived by Andrew Tridgell and Paul Mackerras from

starcraft runs faster from winedbg than from wine?
Hi, I have discovered i can run starcraft at (almost) full speed on my system. This only works one time, directly after reboot. When tried a second time it's all choppy again. My guess is there're some stale wine processes after the first attempt. When i reboot and start wine instead of winedebug the game video performance is choppy. When i start the game with winedbg after that The

compiling libvorbis statically
I'm trying to compile libvorbis with the static version of libogg.a but it is complaining that it can't find the shared libogg even though that I've told configure where to find the static lib: ./configure --with-ogg-includes=/Users/steve/Developer/Apps/Io/Io/IoDesktop/OpenAL/ base/libogg/include --with-ogg-libraries=/Users/steve/Developer/Apps/Io/Io/IoDesktop/

Re: [OT] FOSS or Freedomware? -- WAS: pronunciation/Red Hat
From: Johnny Hughes <mailing-lists at hughesjr.com> > MUCH more FOSS oriented I've been taking an informal survey on this for awhile now. I know the new, official acronym is Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). But even before that acronym was popular, I had long argued that Stallman's insistence on calling it "Free Software" when that could be confused with

Synchronization in Mac OS X
I apologize if this is a little off-topic, but there has been some general discussion on this list regarding file sync options in OS X that will handle both the UNIX- and Mac-specific aspects of the filesystem. There are some shareware apps out there, but none works to my satisfaction in terms of handling the data and providing the features I need to keep my laptop and desktop synchronized.

Theora branch and win/mac codecs
My understanding -- Monty or Emmett, feel free to chime in if you think this is incorrect -- is as follows: www.theora.org is the home for all new releases of the Theora video codec (formally known as VP3). This includes the main OGG/Vorbis integration product, which Monty is working on personally, as well as the QT and Windows codecs, both legacy VP3 versions and new versions reflecting any

Intrusion Suspected, Advice Sought
I run OS X 10.3.7 on a PowerMac MDD G4 on a cable broadband connection. I have reason to think my system has been tampered with. Security features in Mac OS X have been left unlocked (Preference Pane - Users) even though a master lock has always been set in the Security Preference Pane. This locks all other important preference panes which could be tampered with. Also permissions have been

A data frame of data frames
Hello, I'm trying to set up the flowwing data structure in R: A data frame with 7,000 rows and 4 colums. The rownames have some special meaning (they are names of genes). The 1st column per row is itself a data frame, and columns 2 to 4 will keep numeric values. The data frame contained in the 1st column will have 54 rows (with special names) and 4 colums (1st col is a response, cols 2- 4

For-loop
Hi, I have the following problem: I have a data.frame with 36 sample sites (colums) for which I have covariates in 3 categories: Area, Month and River. Each Area consists of 3 rivers, which were sampled over 3 month. Now I want to fuse River 1-3 for one area in one month. To get a data.frame with 12 colums. I am trying to do a "for loop" (which may be a complicated solution, but I
