How to add error bars to plot(x,y)in R?

manipulating "..." inside a function
Dear R-help, Can some one tell me how to do the following (if it's possible)? Suppose I have a function like this: f <- function(x, y, ...) { ## some code g(x, y, ...) ## some more code } The problem is that g() may not understand everything that comes through in "...". Is there a way to delete some component of "..." and then pass it to g()? Here's

Newbie question: Linear regression with error bars.
Hello guys, I am a total newbie on R, having downloaded it, read the documentation and started playing with it right now. My general question is what 'lr' model can be used for doing a linear regression on points that have a variance associated with them (ie. Monte Carlo simulation results). Actually my Data sets look like: Timestep Energy Variance_of_the_Energy 0.0005 -14.876840

Help with plotting error bars in R
Hi, I'm sorry to send email to everyone on this list, but I have a simple question which is bothering me and I can't seem to figure out the correct answer. I just downloaded R and I'm trying to reproduce some simple analysis I've done on other packages. In particular, if I have a vector of experimental values and a vector of their uncertainties, is there a way to plot the

How to plot error bars
I'm a newcomer to R. I can't seem to find any documentation how to add error bars to points in scatter plots. I guess I could plot the points, then compute and plot line segments in the X and/or Y directions to represent the errors? - Mike -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read

How to plot a 3D ellipsoid in R?
Hey, all I am going to plot several 3-dimensional ellipsoids in R. For example, A is such a ellipsoid with mean u=[1 1 1]', covariance matrix C=[1 0 .5;0 1 .6;.5 .6 1]; So how can I plot such object in 3D space? Is there some function to achieve this? Thanks. Fred

maximum likelihood example?
I'm trying to get a grasp of maximum-likelihood estimation and would like to find a package that performs mle (hopefully a simple example). It seems as if there are plenty of packages that make use of different types of likelihood estimators, but none are of a simple, "newbie" type. Does anyone have a suggestion for which package would be the best for a mle example? Thanks, Jeff.

plotting (a) confidence intervals (b) standard error
Hi all, I'm building a plot of the values in tmeant (below) against positions 1 to 5, using matplot. tmeant looks like this: case1 case2 pos1 861.8466 818.5909 pos2 961.2841 976.3466 pos3 878.6080 1262.8523 pos4 950.8011 1129.6080 pos5 968.1080 1063.3920 I also have lower (object tl) and upper (object tu) bounds on the confidence intervals as follows: tl: pos1

Finding functions in uninstalled libraries
(Many thanks to David Barron & Jonathan Baron for pointing me to 'recode' in the 'car' package). I think I've been told this before, but how do I search for a function/keyword in libraries I don't yet have installed? (ie. on the CRAN site I tried the search engines with "recode" etc., but didn't pick up the car package this way) Stuart Dr Stuart Leask

tracing a warning message?
Is there an equivalent to traceback() for tracing a warning message? Since upgrading to 1.6.0, I get a message, at startup, that "the use of _ is deprecated". I've never used this operator in any of the functions I wrote, so some library must use it. -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read

Plotting error bars in xy-direction
Dear R-help, I am looking for a function that will plot error bars in x- or y-direction (or both), the same as the Gnuplot function 'plot' can achieve with: plot "file.dat" with xyerrorbars,... Rsite-searching led me to the functions 'errbar' and 'plotCI' in the Hmisc, gregmisc, and plotrix packages. As I understand the descriptions and examples, none of

graphing with error bars
I am not able to find information about doing line plots with error bars in the R- help information. Would someone like to tell me if this can be done in R and either get me started or lead me to information about how to do the error bars? Thanks, Lana

Using known errors and error bars
Hi, I'm now to R and hope (actually, I'm quite sure) you can help me. I made an experiment and measured two values. As I know the errors of these values I want to use them with the linear regression, eg Value A 1.1+-0.02 1.9+-0.05 3.05+-0.03 4.0+-0.01 5.1+-0.06 Value B 4.2+-0.14 5.3+-0.05 6.8+-0.11 7.9+-0.01 8.5+-0.02 lm(B~A) does the linear regression but how can I

Error Bars
I'm trying to draw some error bars on a bar chart. I'm using code like this: thing <- c(3,3,3) se <- c(1,1,1) names(thing) <- c("A", "B", "C") barplot(thing, ylim=c(0,4)) arrows(c(1:3), thing-se, c(1:3), thing+se, code=3, angle=90,length=0.1) Using c(1:3) has 2 problems: 1. Obviously it is untidy, but using names(thing) doesn't work, and I

confidence-intervals in barchart
Hi R users, 1) How does one show confidence-intervals in a barchart and use rownames for labels on the y-axes? I have looked at "plotCI" in "gregmisc" package . But it does not seem to produce something like a barchart. The statistic, error, upper-bound, and lower-bound are in a dataframe. 2) How to show CI in a barchart either using the statistic and, either (a)

discriminate analysis
Dear List, I'd like to run a discriminate analysis on a data set, but have no idea how to go about this in R. I have attempted to locate info in the manuals, but may not be consulting the right sections or documents. Can anyone point me to appropriate documentation if such exists. Many thanks, David S. how to add error bar to the data in R?
Dear all, Does anyone knwo how to add error bar to the data point in a simple xyplot? Right now, I have a .dat file including both the data points and their standard deviation and read it in R. I tried function arrows(). But it didn't gave me any arrows. Thanks for the help! Jeny
