xyplot question
I have the code below and it works fine if I print the xyplot but if I take the print out, then I just get a blank pdf. The same holds if I just send the plot to the console without the print ( I get nothing ). My question is whether this is always the case with xyplot or is there something wrong with my settings ? I am on linux ( redhat ) and using R.2.5.0. Thanks. load("stocks.dat")

save bug (PR#2418)
My apologies if these are known -- I'm new to R (moved over from S-Plus). All on Windows NT GUI, R1.6.1 and associated packages. 1. save(x) gives the following error message: Error in save(x) : `file' must be non-empty string According to the save() help file, the empty string is the default. 2. In the file>Display file GUI menu, if you try to display a file that is in use by

Error in multiple xyplots
Dear R-listers, I got an error when I try to plot two grouped data into a single win.metafile device: library(lattice) trellis.device(device="win.metafile",color=F,filename="Profiles-Var1.wmf") par(mfrow=c(1,2)) # First plot xyplot(log(v)~t|id,data=Con.20, main="Group A: Control, Var-1", xlab="ocasion",ylab="var1", panel=function(x,y) {

different legends in lattice panels
Hi listers, I want to make lattice plots xyplots with the indication of legends inside each panel with only the points and the lines actually ploted inside each given panel according to the group(ing) factor. The code below shows what I have achieved so far and I hope will make clear what I want to have. It seems to me that my solution is a very "dirty hack" and there certainly is

par(new=T) with xyplot
I know I should not mix base plotting functions with grid/lattice functions, but I have used a "quick-and-dirty" trick of par(new=T) in the past for annotating a trellis-drawn graph in various versions of S-PLUS. The sequence goes something like this: > windows(width = 5, height = 5, pointsize = 10) # open up the device > xyplot(y ~ x) > par(new=T) > xyplot(y2 ~ x) >

Rprofile.site assignments occur in base package (PR#2448)
Not sure whether this is a feature or bug -- but it does not appear to be documented. R1.6.1 on Windows NT 4.00.1381 Objects assigned in the Rprofile.site file (e.g. foo<-'something') are put into package:base not .GlobalEnv on startup. Objects assigned in the .Rprofile file are put into .GlobalEnv. This doesn't seem consistent to me. The objects exist in base only for the

Weird Windows startup menu display problem in 1.7.0 (PR#2817)
Folks: Winnt; R1.7.0 (freshly installed) running under Rgui.exe.,MDI=yes. The following is repeatable: On startup, in my Rprofile.site file, I use winMenuAdd() etc. to install some user menus. However, they do not appear when R GUI window opens. If I minimize and restore the window, the added menus now are present. The exact same procedure under 1.6.2 with exactly the same Rprofile.site and

Built-in R GUI type features
All: The select.list() command brings up a "modal dialog box with a (scrollable) list of items ..." etc. -- i.e., a GUI control. I also know about winDialog, file.choose and the winMenu commands. What other such GUIisms are built into ** base ** R (I know about the tcltk package)? Or, better yet, how can I search on or list them? Many thanks. Bert Gunter Biometrics Research RY 84-16

Multiple xyplots on the same page
Hi, I am using the "xyplot" function in the "lattice" package to generate multiple plots, but I would like to have them plotted on the same page. I would like to set something equivalent to the command: par(mfrow=c(2,2)), in order that I can plot 4 xyplots on the same page. How can I do this in "xyplot"? I am using R version 2.1.1 on Windows. Thanks very

Saving Trellis Graphics in R 1.9.0. (PR#6915)
Full_Name: Zdenek Valenta Version: 1.9.0. OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (147.231.7.250) I could not copy/save (Trelis) graphics using R version 1.9.0. The graphics displayed normally, but copying/saving it only produced an empty file. Everything works o.k. with R rel. 1.8.1. Best regards, Zdenek Valenta

Controlling graphics parameters in lattice
I'm just starting to work with lattice graphics, and am having difficulty understanding how to control various graphic parameters (font sizes, etc.). [I'm actually using xyplot via plot.effect() in the car package, and would like to be able to set some global defaults.] I read ?xyplot and ?trellis.par.set-- which contains no complete list of parameters, just a reference to

Help with Lattice
Hi: I have started to use Lattice two days ago and find that it is an outstanding package. I am, however, stumbling on two problems, despite the fact that I have read the help pages as well as two pdf documents on Trellis that I found on the web. 1- I want to remove the ticks on the top and right sides of the panels and did not see any option in "scales" to do so. 2- I would like

lattice: strange behavior (?) when using trellis.device(color=FALSE)
Dear expeRts, I am not sure if I found a bug... I would like to create a function that itself creates a lattice plot without colors. Following http://www.mail-archive.com/r-help at r-project.org/msg64699.html I use trellis.device() to set the colors to FALSE. Whenever I call the minimal example below *with* trellis.device(), Quartz opens a window (I am working on a MAC), which it shouldn't,

colSums etc. documentation (PR#2545)
For your consideration: > z [,1] [,2] [1,] 1 NA [2,] 2 NA [3,] 3 NA > colSums(z) [1] 6 NA Correct, according to the documentation > colSums(z,na.rm=T) [1] 6 0 Surprising to me, but, as documented, correctly consistent with apply() and >sum(NULL) [1] 0 The documentation for sum() explicitly notes that the sum of an empty set is 0 by definition, so that users

Graph Order in xyplot
I have constructed a Trellis style xyplot. lengthf <- factor(length) xyplot(SLI$velocity ~ SLI$width | SLI$lengthf, layout = c(2,7), xlab = "Width (cm)", ylab = "Velocity (m/s^2)", col = "black") This produces a lovely little plot. However, the grouping factor(lengthf) isn't in the right order. My values range from 2-28 and the 2 graph on the bottom left and

change axis format for different panels in xyplot in lattice
Dear R users, My apologies for a simple question for which I suspect there is a simple answer that I have yet to find. I'd like to plot panels in lattice with different graphical parameters for the axes. For example, the code x<-rnorm(100) y<-rnorm(100) z<-c(rep(1,50), rep(2,50)) library(lattice) xyplot(y~x|z) plots two panels with the default black axes. Running the following

trellis graphics in loops
I have this awkward problem with trellis (lattice). I am trying to generate some plots through loops but the .eps file is empty. When I generate them in a list and print them outside the loop all is fine. this is an example below:( nothing shows up in foo.eps, but all show up in foo1.eps) R vesion 2.0.1, lattice version 0.10-16, on a debian 2.6.8-1 kernel. X <- data.frame(x=rnorm(10000),

xyplot with different symbols and colors?
Dear List, I try to make a xyplot with different colors and symbols, I came this far: library(DAAG) xyplot(csoa~it|sex*agegp,data=tinting,groups=target,pch=list(1,2),auto.key=list(space = "right")) this produces a plot with different colors and symbols but unfortunately the legend does only follow the color scheme and not the different symbols. Any suggestions what to change? And
