data import
Hello, I'm a new user of R, and unsure of why I'm getting an error reading external files on my Mac OS 8.6 machine. I've read through posts that would seem related (and 'R Import/Export' and 'Introduction to R') but to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful. Here's the problem: When I enter the command: > guilds <-

Base package R Macintosh port
Hi everybody I was trying the R binary (1.7.0) for Macintosh (Carbon) and I tried to install some packages using "install.packages" and apparently this function was not implemented. I reloaded the base library since the "update.packages" function should be on it but did not work. Also I tried read.table and did not work either. Does anybody know if the base package

R 1.2.3 for MacOS/X available
From release 1.2.3, R can run different Macintosh platforms. Two versions are currently available that are non concurrent. One version runs on MacOS Systems from 8.6 to 9.1 and MacOSX using the standard MacOS/MacOSX interface, that means that is behaves like any usual Macintosh application. (This is mantained by Stefano M. Iacus) The other version is a Darwin/X11 that means a Unix-like

Macintosh rm162 fails read.table() from sample (PR#2485)
Full_Name: Chris Yager Version: rm162 OS: Mac OS 9.2.2 Submission from: (NULL) (67.117.145.197) As a new user I was running A sample session from Appendix A of An Introduction to R. 'mm<-read.table("morley.tab")' failed. Note that the prior command, 'file.show("morley.tab")', succeeded. Problem does NOT occur in version rm161. NO other bug

survreg (survival) reports erroneous results for left-censored (PR#2293)
Thank you for looking into this so quickly. As you correctly surmise, I was using the Carbon version of R-1.6.1 on Mac OS 10.2.2 (Jaguar) when I got the "wrong" answers. One other observation: The right censoring seems to work fine. Thanks again, Tim On Thursday, November 14, 2002, at 11:09 AM, Jan de Leeuw wrote: > I take that back. I now get the "correct" result

R 1.1.1 (and 1.2.0) on Mac (PPC) and "/afm/" bugs (?)
Hy (I hope this is the right list). 1. Mac porting I'm finishing the porting of R for Mac. I hope to finish it for the end of september. Thanks to the porting of R 0.64 by Ross (that he gave me) I succeded in this porting. This is the current state: Both R 1.1.1. and 1.2.0 works with minor modification to the original code. The Macintosh device has been updated to the new version of

Loess with glm ?
Hello, I am wondering if there is an easy way to combine loess() with glm() to produce a locally fitted generalised regression. I have a data set of about 5,000 observations and 5 explanatory variables, with a binary outcome. One of the explanatory variables (lets call it X) is much more predictive than the others. A single glm() regression over the entire data set produces rather poor results,

Macintosh Speex player
Hi All, I'm have a lot of speech files that are given from an organisation that has a lot of audio tapes with talks on them. Many people use these tapes, and I have started to convert to the audio to mp3. Measure of linearity between two variables?
Hello, I am looking for a measure of linearity in the relationship between two variables. Specifically, I have two variables for which the relationship is reasonably linear over a certain range of values, and then diverges from linearity at either end of the range, as one or other variable "saturates" at a maximum or minimum value. I want to identify the region of linearity, where

Pros & Cons - Microsoft Office on Macintosh OS X
Hello Boys and Girls and Everybody. I have recently started using a Macintosh computer to replace the dinosaur of an unbelievably unreliable PC that I have been using for the last 10 years. So far I have been very pleased. I have been using OpenOffice for quite a while now as I find it is mostly superior to Microsoft Office in many ways, HOWEVER - OpenOffice lacks the Voice Recognition Software

Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail. I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new hardware. The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily. We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream' nature of files from a

[LLVMdev] Dynamically adding exception frames in the macintosh OS X
Hi I am porting a JIT compiler to the Macintosh. This software runs under windows and Linux. In both systems there is an interface for adding exception frames dynamically when you add code compiled on the fly. Under linux the (not documented) gcc function __register_frame_info does the trick. Under windows, Microsoft has added an official API for this, that works without problems. The

Backing up from windows to macintosh
I want to backup from a windows machine to a Macintosh. All of the guides that I've seen describe the other direction. Worse, they all seem slightly different, or inconsistent. The first thing that I'd want to do should be simple: an rsync -az --delete of the entire drive, to back up all of the files. But that's not everything on the windows machine. And this is what I have not seen

Macintosh binaries; was: Rcmdr and Macintosh
I am a Windows user and trying to make life easier for my Mac-using students. After investigating the Mac situation more, it appears that the key to easy use is having precompiled binaries. However the packages I am interested in (Rcmdr and its required package, car) do not have one. I do not have easy access to a Mac, so I have a plea to Macintosh users: could someone please create them if it is

Can't run regression on G3 Mac
Hi, I'm new to R. I was wondering if anyone has an OS X native installation (not Carbon) of R on a G3 Macintosh that is able to run linear regression? I installed Jan de Leeuw's R binary for OS 10.2 Jaguar on my laptop, which is still a G3 model. When I try to run a simple regression, using lm, I get an "Illegal Instruction" message and R quits. Jan thinks it may be the case

Macintosh sandbox denying access folder
Hi all, Have any of you had experience with macintosh's sandbox denying access to a folder served by Samba? I don't know exactly how to reproduce, so here's everything (?): I'm running macOS Catalina (10.15.1). In the terminal I start a python command interpreter. python # then >>>import os # then I repeatedly list a directory others have been having problems
