Replace missing values in spatial design using moving average
Dera R helpers, I have a (x,y,z) data file where x and y are spatial coordinates and z a variable. I have some missing values in the z column and I would like to replace them with an optimized estimation from the neighbour cells. I could not find any function in R to do that. Is anybody aware of such function ? Maybe someone knows how to implement the Papadakis method in R... Thanks for your

Boxcox transformation / homogeneity of variances
Dear r-helpers, Prior to analysis of variance, I ran the Boxcox function (MASS library) to find the best power transformation of my data. However, reading the Boxcox help file, I cannot figure out if this function (through its associated log-likelihood function) corrects for * normality only * or if it also induces * homogeneity of variances *. I found in Biometry (Sokal and Rohlf, p. 419)

interpretation of svm models with the e1071 package
Dear all, after having calibrated a svm model through the svm() command of the e1071 package, is there a way to i) represent the modeled relationships between the y and X variables (response variable vs. predictors)? ii) rank the influence of the predictors used in the model? Right now I am more interested in regression models, but I guess this would be useful for classification too. Thank

book about "support vector machines"
Dear all, I am currently looking for a book about support vector machines for regression and classification and am a bit lost since they are plenty of books dealing with this subject. I am not totally new to the field and would like to get more information on that subject for later use with the e1071 <http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/e1071/index.html> package for instance. RCMD check error windows
Dear Lister, I am working with Windows XP and R 2.1.0 and can check and build home-made packages easily (just *.r, *.rmd, *.rda files, no compiled code). However for some reasons, I cannot check or build the package 'foreign' from the source (I took it as an exercise...). After some lines of sentences OK (here omitted and replaced by ...), I get a message like this: RCMD check

Calling rcmd.exe from a CGI
I have a web cgi running on Win NT (version 4, service pack 5) that executes a perl program (call it foo.pl). foo.pl reads and conditions some data files, creates a summary data file for R, and then forks rcmd.exe (version 1.2.2) in BATCH mode (all of this is taking place on an NT box). foo.pl works fine if run from a command line (i.e. there are no apparent bugs in foo.pl and my R program

Rcmd vs. Rterm.exe
Hi r-hackers, What exactly is the difference in call r from a batch between this two ways: Rterm.exe ... Rcmd BATCH ... (I have to install perl first, I know) I haven't found any documentation about the difference (readme, FAQs, ...). I use rterm.exe, but is there a benefit in using rcmd? Can you explain me that or give me a link? Thanks Thomas Thomas Untern?hrer

Obtaining Rcmd.exe for Windows
Hi, I've installed the latest version of R by running SetupR.exe, but it doesn't come with Rcmd.exe. Is there an easy way to obtain this file without going through compiling the source code and all that? Rcmd? Where?
Hello, I got R 1.6.0 for windows and I need Rcmd, which was not included. Where can I get it? (I have to start R and give the name of the file with the R-commands on the command line, so that R is invoked together with its command-file "todo.R". Do I really need Rcmd for that? To write "Rterm todo.R" did not work.) Richard -- Richard M?ller - Am Spring 9 - D-58802

minor tick marks
Hi ! I need a plot for data extending over several orders of magnitude on the y axis. The following command generates a nice looking semi-log plot for my data: plot(x,y,log="y",type="l",lty=3, ylim=c(0.01,2),yaxp=c(0.01,1,1),las=1) I would appreciate having also minor tick marks in-between the 3 major ticks obtained with the above command. The "minor.tick" function

Problems with graphics
Dear all, I am a SAS user, who's trying R. I am a little bit lost for graphics. What is the simplest way for plotting y as a function of x with one symbol (line or dot) for each level of a class variable z (for SAS langage= plot x*y=z). Can I add vertical bars for standard deviation stored in a separate variable (say ystd). Finally, is it possible to do all this with xyplot function

importing images
I would like to import "tif" images in R and I do not find any function that can do that. In Matlab there exists the function "imread" that can read the most known images format. Does a similar function exist for R ? Thanks in advance -- Herve CARDOT ____________________________________________________________ Unite Biometrie et Intelligence Artificielle, INRA Toulouse BP

Rcmd not working on Windows
I changed the path to include C:\Program Files\R\R-2.3.1\bin, but Rcmd check [package] just returns an error: 'Rcmd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any ideas? I want to be able to compile this package on Windows. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
