Masking commands - Permutation in gregmisc and e1071
I am using the function permutations from the package *gregmisc*. However, I
am also making use of the package *e1071*, which also contains a function
called permutations. I want to use the function permutations from the *
gregmisc* package, however, the other package is masking this function. This
happens both when I load the *e1071* package before *gregmisc* and when I
load *e1071* after I load

Rterm and cgi
Dear R experts,
I posted a question last week regarding RSJava error UnsatisfiedLink:
eval. But, I did not get any response yet.
So, I am trying to work something out.
I tried to write something with perl, but it still does not work. In perl,
when I used rename which is a Dos command, it worked through the cgi, so
did cp (which is not a Dos command, but, it is in my path).

error starting SJava: classpath
Dear R experts,
Sorry, I am resending this, since I have not received this mail myself for
the past 5 hours.
I saw a similar question dated July 2. But there is no answer to it. Does
anybody have a solution to it?
I am using window NT, and the R version is 1.5.1, the SJava package is the
binary version SJavaWin_0.62-8.zip.
Here are the error message:

Constructin a call of function including permutation of column names - how to escape parentheses?
Dear R-users,
I would like to construct a list of arguments for a function in a format
function (list(item1=c("A","B"), item2=c("B","C")), item3=...):
The individual vectors in the list are permutations of colnames of a
dataframe.
The trouble is that I am not able to handle escaping of parentheses
correctly.

how to permute, simulate Markov chain
Hi all,
I am new to R. Can someone please give me some hints in how to do the
following things:
1- Get ONE permutation of a set. I have looked at the gregmisc package's
permutations() method, but I just want to get one permutation at a time.
2- Simulate a Markov chain in R. For instance, I want to simulate the simple
random walk problem, in which a person can walk randomly around 4 places.

Question about Distinguishable Permutation

How can I list all possilities of Distinguishable Permutation by R? For example, N=6, n1=n2=n3=2, the total possible answers are 6!/(2!2!2!)=90.

A combinatorial optimization problem: finding the best permutation of a complex vector

I have a complex-valued vector X in C^n. Given another complex-valued vector Y in C^n, I want to find a permutation of Y, say, Y*, that minimizes ||X - Y*||, the distance between X and Y*.

Folks,
Having problems getting started with SJava and request help.
I get this error when running .JavaInit() (within RGui 1.5.1, on Windows
2000):
Error in .JavaInit() : Couldn't start Java Virtual Machine: Cannot find
the Omegahat interface manager class. Check you classpath!

I have a problem with permutations functions in R
I just started using R so maybe it is an easy question
I need to obtain all the 9.somthingExp 157 permutations that can be
given from the number from 1 to 100
I wrote the following commands:

How top print intermediate values from inside a function?
Hi:
In R, how do I display some intermediate results calculated in a "for"
loop within a function? For example, in the attached code, how do I
get it to print the intermediate variable "mh.new" for each simulation,
when I call the function "MHsim.ind"?

Multiset Permutations

coin package, but it doesn't seem to offer what I am looking for. I want to
perform permutations (exact - without duplications) on multisets of scalars

Permutations
Dear R users,
I?m a beginner user of R and I?ve a problem with permutations that I don?t
know how to solve. I?ve 12 elements in blocks of 3 elements and I want only
to make permutations inter-blocks (no intra-blocks) (sorry if the

1. reinstall R (lastest version, on windows XP)
2. install package "gtools"
3. include:

Strange update behavior of gregmisc
Hello,
I notice an odd behavior of gregmisc package when using
"update.packages()" via R --no-save (as root).
Every time I launch update.packages() gregmisc is repeatedly selected
for upgrade. Current available version of gregmisc is 2.08 according
to 'installed.packages()'. Despite I obviousely have already installed
the most up to date gregmisc, gregmisc will be updated

why package gregmisc did not work

update.packages keeps trying to update gregmisc
If I issue the command
> update.packages()
it wants to update 'gregmisc' but then if I do it again right afterwards it
still wants to update 'gregmisc'. It should have updated everything
the first time and should not be trying to update anything the second
time. Any comments?
