Rails on Sun
Hi Everbody, I''ve got a potential idea for introducing Rails to my company. My only shot at this is to minimize what our Ops guys would have to install and configure to get this up and running. Right now, our servers are Solaris boxes and we are using Sun ONE as our web server. Anyone got Rails running in this environment? Also, has anyone got Rails talking to Oracle databases?

Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart.
I am fighting this issue: Bug 1540376 ? Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart.
This problem appears to be related to the sqlite3 DB files that are used for the tiering file access counters, stored on each hot and cold tier brick in .glusterfs/<volname>.db. When the tier is first created, these DB files do not exist, they are created, and everything works fine. On a stop/start or service restart, the .db files are already present, albeit empty since I don't have

Tiered volume performance degrades badly after a volume stop/start or system restart.
Tested it in two different environments lately with exactly same results. Was trying to get better read performance from local mounts with hundreds of thousands maildir email files by using SSD, hoping that .gluster file stat read will improve which does migrate to hot tire. After seeing what you described for 24 hours and confirming all move around on the tires is done - killed it. Here are my

Handling a tiered subscription service
Hi all, I''m working on a project that involves a tiered pricing structure for various features, all of which are accessed via a secure admin area. The features available in each tier, the tier structure and pricing will change over time, so new tier schemes will come into play, requiring feature/pricing schemes to be timestamped. I guess what I''m aiming for is

Why files goes to hot tier and cold tier at same time
Hi, The actual data will be in the hot tier only till demotion. The file that you see on the cold tier is just a linkto file of the file on the hot tier. These linkto file are necessary for the internal working of the tier. Why files goes to hot tier and cold tier at same time
Hi Guys Got a quick question regarding hot tier and cold tier. I got a gluster volume with 1 x 3 hot tier and 1 x 3 cold tier. watermark-low is 75 and watermark-hi is 90. usage of volume is very less. My files always go to hot tier and cold tier at same time As I understand, data should go to hot tier only until demoted. Could someone please shed some light into this? Thanks in advance. --

Testing sharding on tiered volume
Hi, I'm looking to use sharding on tiered volume. This is very attractive feature that could benefit tiered volume to let it handle larger files without hitting the "out of (hot)space problem". I decided to set test configuration on GlusterFS 3.12.3 when tiered volume has 2TB cold and 1GB hot segments. Shard size is set to be 16MB. For testing 100GB files are used. It seems writes

For the tier daemon to migrate the files for read, few performance translators have to be turned off. By default the performance quick-read and io-cache are turned on. You can turn them off so that the files will be migrated for read. Blocking IO when hot tier promotion daemon runs
I've recently enabled an SSD backed 2 TB hot tier on my 150 TB 2 server / 3 bricks per server distributed replicated volume. I'm seeing IO get blocked across all client FUSE threads for 10 to 15 seconds while the promotion daemon runs. I see the 'glustertierpro' thread jump to 99% CPU usage on both boxes when these delays occur and they happen every 25 minutes (my

Hi I'm looking for an advise on hot tier feature - how can I tell if the hot tier is working? I've attached replicated-distributed hot tier to an EC volume. Yet, I don't think it's working, at least I don't see any files directly on the bricks (only folder structure). 'Status' command has all 0s and 'In progress' for all servers. ~]# gluster volume tier home

Hot Tier
Hi, If it was just reads then the tier daemon won't migrate the files to hot tier. If you create a file or write to a file that file will be made available on the hot tier. Blocking IO when hot tier promotion daemon runs
I should add that additional testing has shown that only accessing files is held up, IO is not interrupted for existing transfers. I think this points to the heat metadata in the sqlite DB for the tier, is it possible that a table is temporarily locked while the promotion daemon runs so the calls to update the access count on files are blocked? Hi, Can you send the volume info, and volume status output and the tier logs. And I need to know the size of the files that are being stored. Hot Tier
Hi At this point I already detached Hot Tier volume to run rebalance. Many volume settings only take effect for the new data (or rebalance), so I thought may this was the case with Hot Tier as well. Once rebalance finishes, I'll re-attache hot tier. cluster.write-freq-threshold and cluster.read-freq-threshold control number of times data is read/write before it moved to hot tier. In my case

Thanks for the info, Hari. Sorry about the bad gluster volume info, I grabbed that from a file not realizing it was out of date. Here's a current configuration showing the active hot tier: [root at pod-sjc1-gluster1 ~]# gluster volume info Volume Name: gv0 Type: Tier Volume ID: d490a9ec-f9c8-4f10-a7f3-e1b6d3ced196 Status: Started Snapshot Count: 13 Number of Bricks: 8 Transport-type: tcp Hot
