RODBC & POSIX & Daylight Saving blues
Dear All, The recent improvement in RODBC to recognize datetimes in tables has exposed my ongoing confusion. All my data are obtained from a satellite system (Argos) which tags events in the GMT time zone. Daylight saving is ignored. To my way of thinking this means that 1. twelve-o-clock means halfway through the day regardless of season, and 2. the difftime of any two dates where

blues in c
G'Day, I'm a little confused why the c function has the followng effect on classes - is this a feature ? My workround [ class(cc) <- c("POSIXt", "POSIXct") ] seems to do the job. Many thanks Bernie McConnell "R version 1.3.1, 2001-08-31" on NT > aa <- as.POSIXct("2001-09-23") > bb <- as.POSIXct("2001-09-24") > cc

memory blues
G'Day again, I am attempting to read a large MSAccess file into R, but get memory problems. With the first 100 rows of the table ("Macca99") things, as shown below, are fine and the resulting object is 33,780 bytes. But when I read the entire table ("MaccaDiv99") which is 218,000 rows R falls over with the message: Rgui.exe - Application error The instruction at

accessing current factor in tapply
G'Day, I want to access in a function called from tapply the current factor. In my example below, all I want to do is to write the current factor on each histogram. Needless to say my example does not work. I would be grateful for pointers in the right direction. Many thanks Bernie McConnell Sea Mammal Reserach Unit cc <- 1:10 ff <- rep(c("a","b"),5) pp<-

Phone Rings, Immediate Hangup and then Rings Again.
I am having a problem with an Asterisk server, in that when it is receiving a call from another Asterisk server using an IAX2 trunk the phone rings for 10 ms and then there is a hungup from asterisk and then the phone rings again before another hangup. The funny thing is that after I really hang up on the calling phone it repeats this as if I am still trying to call. Any Ideas?

Deb-4.0 Etch and sources.list for R
Hi Folks, I'm running Debian-4.0 Etch, installed last September from a DVD, and regularly updated as things arise. I have R version 2.4.0 Patched (2006-11-25 r39997) installed (initially at the time of first installation of Debian, as provided by Debian), along with a variety of packages. I'd like to be able to connect to the CRAN repositories for Debian R, for updates etc. When I visit

An error message I don't recognize
I have recently been told I will have to maintain some CentOS servers at work. Since I have only been using Slackware for the last 16 years, I decided to install CentOS on one of my servers at home to get an idea of the differences. I installed CentOS 5.4 from CD with no problems, did a yum update, set up a couple of samba shares and started to copy over some files from one of my other

Changing font in boxplots
Hi all, I am very new to R and this might be a simple question but I have looked everywhere you suggest before writing to you. I am trying to change font type from san-serif to a serif (Times New Romans) on all labels and axis of my boxplot. I have used this function in other plots before, e.g.: plot(residuals~lnlifespan, data=mydata, pch=psymb, font=6, xlab="ln reproductive

R project web site
Is anyone else encountering trouble viewing the basic www.r-project.org page? Or has it been changed recently so that google hasn't kept up? I find I can access the mirror of the CRAN page at http://www.maths.bris.ac.uk/R/, none of the *.org pages. Nor can I jump to the R homepage from the CRAN mirror. JWDougherty

R on Ubuntu
Hi everyone, first of all, my sincerest thanks for the maintainers of this massive project. Such a compelling task! Briefly, I?m a PhD student working on Spatial Stats who loves R. Last week I decided to install and use Ubuntu (again). Consequently, I install the latest release (18.04) and tried to install R 3.5.0 as well but (un)fortunately I couldn?t. I have used R within Ubuntu and I use to

Problem with checkinstall
I installed checkinstall 1.6.2 on CentOS 5.4 VM (VMWare Server on WinXP). After getting the dependencies installed it compiled with no errors. But when I run it in its own source directory, I keep getting an error that I can't track down. The message is: install: cannot change ownership of '/usr/local/lib/installwatch.so': No such file or directory. But not only does the file

Problem updating packages in 2.15.1 on Ubuntu 12.04
The specific message is: "Warning: package 'spatial' in library '/usr/lib/R/library' will not be updated" and the number of libraries about which that's the complaint is now increasingly almost daily so clearly something is wrong. I'm working on a laptop on which I do the recommended Ubuntu updates daily. I done a standard installation of R 2.15.1 using

Removable drive configuration
I have a box running CentOS 5.3 with two Dataport removable drive bays installed on the second IDE interface (/dev/hdc and hdd). I want to configure it so I can plug in and mount various drives at different times, including different size drives. So far it will only recognize the first drive I plug in, and only if I boot the box after inserting the drive. Is there any way to set it up so I
