hypergeometric
Hi, I hope somebody can help me on how to use the hypergeometric function. I did read through the R documentation on hypergeometric but not really sure what it means. I would like to evaluate the hypergeometric function as follows: F((2*alpha+1)/2, (2*alpha+2)/2 , alpha+1/2, betasq/etasq). I'm not sure which function should be used- either phyper or qhyper or dhyper Where

hypergeometric series in R
Hello. Somebody knows how to compute generalized hypergeometric series in R? (see http://functions.wolfram.com/HypergeometricFunctions/HypergeometricPFQ/02/ to understand what I mean) Thanks in advance, Arnau.

hypergeometric function in ‘ mvtnorm’

a==0 vs as.integer(a)==0 vs all.equal(a,0)
hi ?integer says: Note that on almost all implementations of R the range of representable integers is restricted to about +/-2*10^9: 'double's can hold much larger integers exactly. I am getting very confused as to when to use integers and when not to. In my line I need exact comparisons of large integer-valued arrays, so I often use as.integer(), but the above

no visible binding for global variable
Hello everyone I am trying to get one of my packages through R's QC. The package is clean for me under R-2.4.1, R-2.5.0, and R-devel, but Kurt gets > > * checking R code for possible problems ... WARNING > hypercube: no visible binding for global variable ?f? Function hypercube() [cut-&-pasted below] is intended to return an adjacency matrix for an n-dimensional

FAQ 7.31
Jacobi's theta functions crop up here and there in various branches of mathematics, such as unimodular and elliptic functions. They have Taylor expansions, but the powers increase as the square of n, as in 1 + z + z^4 + z^9 + z^16 + z^25 + . . . so they converge very quickly, provided |z|<1 The following toy function shows how I'm implementing these objects. I just add terms

Extended Hypergeometric Distribution
Dear R Users, There exists a non-central hypergeometric distribution function in the (MCMCpack) package, and a hypergeometric distribution function in the (stats) package. Is there a function for sampling from an extended hypergeometric distribution? Thanks, Narcyz This message is intended for the addressee named and may con...{{dropped}}

analysis of correlation matrices
Hello, I'm looking for a package in R that performs, analysis of correlation matrices: cross-classified by 2 factors. Sometimes having problems finding a minimum using optim(), optimize(), and nlm() (while searching for noncentral F parameters)
Hi everyone. I have a problem that I have been unable to determine either the best way to proceed and why the methods I'm trying to use sometimes fail. I'm using the pf() function in an optimization function to find a noncentrality parameter that leads to a specific value at a specified quantile. My goal is to have a general function that returns the noncentrality parameter that

Multivariate hypergeometric distribution version of phyper()
Dear R Users, I employed the phyper() function to estimate the likelihood that the number of genes overlapping between 2 different lists of genes is due to chance. This appears to work appropriately. Now i want to try this with 3 lists of genes which phyper() does not appear to support. Some googling suggests i can utilize the Multivariate hypergeometric distribution to achieve this. eg.:

'simulate.p.value' for goodness of fit
R Help on 'chisq.test' states that "if 'simulate.p.value' is 'TRUE', the p-value is computed by Monte Carlo simulation with 'B' replicates. In the contingency table case this is done by random sampling from the set of all contingency tables with given marginals, and works only if the marginals are positive... In the

"gam()" in "gam" package
R-users E-mail: r-help@r-project.org I have a quenstion on "gam()" in "gam" package. The help of gam() says: 'gam' uses the _backfitting algorithm_ to combine different smoothing or fitting methods. On the other hand, lm.wfit(), which is a routine of gam.fit() contains: z <- .Fortran("dqrls", qr = x * wts, n = n, p = p, y = y *

What distribution is related to hypergeometric?
I have been reading, in various sources, that a poisson distribution is related to binomial, extending the idea to include numbers of events in a given period of time. In my case, the hypergeometric distribution seems more appropriate, but I need a temporal dimension to the distribution. I have weekly samples of two kinds of events: call them A and B. I have a count of A events. These change

OC curve in "Quality Control"
Dear all, Can anyone please help me about any of the following questions: -------------------------------------------- 1. How can i find "factorial" of any number in R? I tried > prod(170:1) # to find factorial of 170 or 170! Is it the only procedure - or R has any better process / operational character to calculate factorial? Also, is it possible to calculate factorial of 500? Or

procrustes (vegan) plot of residual differences
Hello This is a simple question but I couldn't google an answer. In the procrustes function of the vegan package, one uses plot(procrustes_object, kind=2) to obtain a plot of the residual differences. For instance: data(varespec) vare.dist <- vegdist(wisconsin(varespec)) library(MASS) mds.null <- isoMDS(vare.dist, tol=1e-7) mds.alt <- isoMDS(vare.dist,
