Compile R-1.7.0 on Mac OS 10.2.6
Hi,
I can't get R-1.7.0 to compile on my Mac. Can someone give me some
pointers?
The machine is an 800MHz iBook running OS 10.2.6. I have installed the
December 2002 Developers Tools and have installed g77, f2c and dlcompat
via fink. I've checked the versions of g77 and gcc and they're both
based on gcc version 3.1. I've got Apple's X11 (Beta 3). I've added

News for OS X Users
Sorry things have gone silent on the release front, but I have some good
news: I''ve gotten wxruby-swig to build as a OS X framework. This has a
couple of ramifications
1) wxruby for the Mac will finally exactly like its Linux and PC
counterparts, menu bar and all.
2) Bundling wxruby applications becomes a lot easier.
3) The next binary installer should be able to support darwinports,

RMagick on OS X - HOW
Hello all.
I''m a seasoned system administrator and have no fear of building
source packages on a variety of platforms, but RMagick has, until
recently, evaded all of my attempts to building it on my PowerBook.
Someone else just mentioned that they had trouble with RMagick on
OS X (Intel, don''t really know if my advice will help) so I
decided to post a HOWTO to the list.

R make on macosx
I am trying to make R-1.5.0 from source on a new G4 system with the apple

Capistrano, OS X
If you installed your copy of ruby via DarwinPorts, the hashbang lines
at the top of your dispatch.* scripts says "#!/opt/local/bin/ruby". This
is a problem, if you''re deployin via Capistrano to a host with a
different path to ruby (which would be practially all of them:-)
Here''s a fix. Add this "fix_hashbangs.rb" script to your script
directory.

Installation on OSX...
Hi,
Just got my first Mac. I''m trying to install rails on it, using the
instructions in the rails wiki:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoInstallOnOSXTigerUsingDarwinPorts
I go to install mysql, and the version of mysql supported by
DarwinPorts appears to be 4.1.18. But all the sites appear to only
have 4.1.19 or 4.1.20. So it looks like DarwinPorts is over a month

deploying R_o_R to local servers
Hi!
I''m pretty amazed by the features of RoR so far. But, as I come from the
desktop application development, my clients expect to run the magic on
their domain rather on a foreign one. Also I feel uncomfortable giving
away my RoR code to some hosting company, because I''m planning to do a
large application.
As I understand, RoR is designed to run on central web-servers and not

Cannot build ices0/libshout2 on Mac OSX 10.4.2
Hi -
I'm rebuilding my OSX system and I can't get ices0 to build - or to be
more exact, can't get libshout2 to build.
I started by using DarwinPorts, and icecast2 & libogg & libvorbis
seemed to build OK. The install of ices0 then gave up at the libshout2
config stage with output like this:

checking for libvorbis... ok
checking for struct ovectl_ratemanage_arg... no

PostgreSQL on Mac?
Is there something like MAMP, but uses PostgreSQL instead? I found a
couple PostgreSQL dmg''s, but one was < 8.x. For those who use PostgreSQL
on Mac, how''d you install it (fink, package, please don''t say compile!)?
Thanks,
Joe

R version on gifi
Pretty soon, hopefully, the RAqua version will make the Darwin/X11
version unnecessary. In the meantime, for convergence, I'll modify the
Gifi
version in various ways.
-- It's 1.7.1
-- It no longer supports gnome
-- It still uses Tcl/Tk for X11 (using 8.5 from CVS)
!! It no longer uses anything from fink (readline and dlcompat

MacOS Compile questions
Hello,
I've just compiled tinc on OS X and have the following questions when
following the instructions in the manual on the web.
My environment is as follows:
OS X 10.5.6
Fink 0.9.0 (Binary Package)
I'm using TunTap 20080804 from http://tuntaposx.sourceforge.net/
1. dlcompat is not found in fink. It seemed to compile ok without it,
is this critical? I saw no mention of it in the

RMagick bus error on OS X in console mode
This is a strange bug that I''ve never seen before. It only shows up
when I run the app through the console (the app is Family Connection,
and it works fine when run as a web app):

I''ve been trying to install GraphicsMagick with RMagic. I''ve tried
ImageMagick with RMagic as well. I''ve tried the installations using Darwin

rails --version
Rails 1.1.0

Compiling R for OS X 10.2.6 (Darwin 6.6)
Our lab just picked up a G4 Powerbook (1 GHz, 1GB RAM, OS X 10.2.6). None
of us have any experience with Macs but for various reasons we need to have
one around for development.
In any case, we've installed fink, all the Apple Developer Tools and the
Dec2002updater to gcc 3.3. We're now trying to compile R 1.7.1 without too
much success. First we had to get g77, which turned out to
