power of a matrix
Dear all,
I have a population with three age-classes, at time t=0 the population
is:
n.zero <- c(1,0,0)
I have a transition matrix A which denotes "fertility" and "survival":
A <- matrix(c(0,1,5, 0.3,0,0, 0,0.5,0), ncol=3, byrow=TRUE)
To obtain the population at t=1, I calculate:
A %*% n.zero
To obtain the population t=2, I calculate:
A %*% (A %*% n.zero)
... and so

Installing Lindsey's packages
Dear r-helpers,
I downloaded http://popgen.unimaas.nl/~jlindsey/rcode/rmutil.tar (it
was originally .tgz, but got unzipped by my browser).
Can anyone give me detailed instructions on installing this and
Lindsey's other packages on R version 2.4.0 (2006-10-03)---(powerpc-
apple-darwin8.7.0, locale: C)?

gauss.hermite?
The search at www.r-project.org mentioned a function
"gauss.hermite{rmutil}". However, 'install.packages("rmutil")'
produced, 'No package "rmutil" on CRAN.' How can I find the current
status of "gauss.hermite" and "rmutil"?
Thanks,

inverse gaussian random numbers
Dear R-people
Does someone have a routine to ngenerate inverse-gaussian random
numbers. I am thinking of
something similar to rinvgauss, pinvgauss etc. in S-plus.
best regards

To convert an adjacency list model into a nested set model
Dear R-help
I am wondering if somebody wrote some code to convert an adjacency list
model into a nested set model.
In principal I want to do the same as John Celko mentioned it here with

Goodness of fit to Poisson / NegBinomial
All,
I have some data on parasites on apple leaves and want to do a
goodness of fit test to a Poisson distribution. This seems to
do it:
mites <- c(rep(0,70),
rep(1,38),
rep(2,17),
rep(3,10),
rep(4,9),
rep(5,3),
rep(6,2),
rep(7,1))
tab <- table(mites)
NSU <- length(mites)

library for mixed GLM?
Dear all,
I am taking a course in GLM given by a devoted SAS user. He has given us a
homework where a mixed GLM with a logistic link and binomially distributed
observations should be fitted.
I know of the library nlme for mixed effect models but as I understand it,
one cannot choose between different links and distributions in the
functions provided there.
I have so far managed very well with

ZIB models
I attempted to contact Drew Tyre, but the email I have for him is no
longer in service.
Hopefully someone can help.
I'm using obs.error in R to model turtle occupancy in wetlands.
I have 4 species and 20 possible patch and landscape variables, which
I've been testing in smaller groups.

I get the following error

repeated - R package
Thompson's Manual to Accompany Agresti's book refers to a package named
"repeated". It's not on CRAN from what I can see. I have seen rpm's for
it. Where is the best place to download this package?

Read a dataset with different lengths
Dear useR again,
How can I read a dataset if lines in dataset did not have same

R INSTALL *.tgz fails (minor docs/feature bug) (PR#652)
R Team,
I was attempting to install Lindsey's rmutil.tgz and other
non-CRAN packages using 'R INSTALL', for example 'R INSTALL rmutil.tgz'
after downloading 'rmutil.tgz' from Lindsey's page (as linked from
r-project.org page).
Directly using the compressed file as 'R INSTALL rmutil.tgz'
failed, though the shell help from 'R INSTALL --help'

Install repeated library
Hello -
I cannot get to
www.alpha.luc.ac.be/~jlindsey/rcode.html<http://www.alpha.luc.ac.be/%7Ejlindsey/rcode.html>to
obtain and install the repeated library for use of glmm(). Is the web
page not active? Can you give me an alternative location to obtain the
repeated library?
Thank you,

mixed effect-models
Hello,
?
I believe that in R, it is not possible to analyze mixed effect-models
when the distribucion is not gaussian (p.e. binomial or poisson), isn't?
?
Somebody can suggest me alternative?
?

Zero inflated count models
Can someone show me how to specify zero inflated poisson and zero
inflated negative poisson models in R? I would like to replicate the
example given in Long (1997: Regression Models for Categorical and
Limited Dependent Variables) in Chapter 8.5 (pp. 242-247).
TIA

generate random sample from ZINB
I want to generate 1,000 random samples of sample size=1,000 from ZINB.
I know there is a rnegbin() to generate random samples from NB, and I know
I can use
the following process:
do i=1 to 1000
n=0
do i=1 to 1000
if runi(1)>0.1 then x(i) = 0; else
x(i)=rnegbin();
n=n+1;
if n>1000 then stop;
end;
output;
end;
Anybody can help me out with the R code?
Thanks very much ahead of time.
