trouble with netCDF (PR#824)
Having trouble with netCDF since I upgraded to 1.2.1 (did directly
from 1.1.1). Package was recompiled after the upgrade.
Symptoms:
open.netCDF returns cleanly, but read.netCDF causes R to segfault
and dump core. What else do you need me to write to help?

R and database access
Hi,
I am relatively new at R, but I would like to be able to directly access my
MySQL and PostgreSQL databases from R. I have been looking around CRAN and
searching through Google, however I am not sure what are the best options. I
have seen
DBI - not sure how this works
Rdbi - not sure how this works
Rdbi.PgSQL - can install, but fails on trying to load
RODBC - cannot

Ordered factors and DBMS
Is there any way of preserving order of ordered factors when storing a
table in PostgreSQL?
I have been using PostgreSQL and the RPgSQL package to store a large
table with answers such as "Strong disagreement", "Strong agreement",
"Mild disagreement". "Mild agreement". When reading the table, such
answers are turned into factors, apparently in

R/S and large datasets - Database access (also Re: SAS and S/R)
A consensus seems to emerge : R would excel to exploratory work on
small/middle-sized datasets, while SAS would be able to munch much
larger datasets.
However, I see the "size" problem as a red herring. The objects that
have to stay "in core" are usually much smaller than the dataset. For
example, for problems involving fixed-effects linear models, you need

Database-conversion
Dear R-Users,
I store my data in an Postgres-table.
I can connect with Rdbi.PgSQL, that is no the problem.
The problem is the NA-Values. No-data-values are coded as -9999 in the
table.
But when I extrct them with any SELECT-statement, the -9999-values are
treated as normal vectors.
How can I tell R not to fetch the datasets containig -9999-values?
thanks for your help

I'm running Debian (Sid), Postgres (7.3.4) and
R (1.8.1).
I get the following error when I tri to use DBI

Is there any other package I need in order to

R and PostGresQL
Sorry for the simple question:
What is the "standard" package for interfacing with PostGreSQL (most
up-to-date)? There appear to be at least three with different names:
Rdbi.PgSQL
RdbiPgSQL (available as part of BioConductor)
RPgSQL (On the home page, no longer maintained in favor or Rdbi)

functions not found after installing DBI/RDBI packages
Hi,
I would like to be able to use R with a connection to a PostgreSQL database. I am using R 2.0.1 on windows XP. I have tried installing both the DBI and rDBI packages (which is better?) but in either case I run into the same problem - when i try to use either the dbDriver or dbConnect functions i'm told the function couldn't be found. Seems like the packages aren't installing

how to connect to a remote PostgreSQL database from R on mac osx
Hello List,
I would like to connect to a postgreSQL database on a remote server and I am wondering what is the best package to do that. I have just installed RpgSQL, RPostgreSQL, Rdbi and RODBC.
The handiest to me is RPostgreSQL but I don't see how to connect to a remote server with it. For sure I can connect to remote server with RODBC, but since I am on a Mac OSX 10.6, I have quite

connecting R and PostgreSQL
Dear R-helpers,
I'm an absolute beginner using both R and PostgreSQL, but now I have to work with both programs. I need to connect R and my Postgres-database, but every attempt so far has failed (I tried using the RpgSQL package as well as RdbiPgSQL, the first, following this manual (http://code.google.com/p/rpostgresql/) didn't find any drivers for the database (step no. 1) whereas the

I wonder whether anyone has succeeded in building either the RPgSQL or the
Rdbi.PGSQL and Rdbi packages for Windows. If so, would you be willing to

OT: BibTex year-only citation in text?
Sorry for the off-topic question, but I know there are some talented
LaTeX users out there. Which bibliography style gives only the year in
text citations (e.g "for further details, see Anderson (1992)" )?
Thanks

generic database access methods
I've been putting together a package that defined generic methods for
database access. The packages is called "Rdbi." It borrows as much as
possible from existing database packages / proposals. I'd like to start
a discussion about the proposed interface. Here's what I've come up
with so far:
#
# Rdbi: connectionMethods.R
#
dbConnect <- function(dbObj, ...)

Question about the high dimensional density estimation
Hi,
I found that the R package "KernSmooth" can deal with only 1D and 2D data. But now I have a collection of 4-dimensional data (x1,x2,x3,x4) and would like to estimate the "mode" of the underlying density. What can I do about it ?
Thanks a lot.

run R under linux
Dear all,
Our department uses the linux system and we are not allowed to submit job
directly. We must make a batch to submit through "qmon".
so, I make a foo.sh file, which only contains one line: nohup R --vanilla <
foo.txt > foo.results
foo is all my codes. It is a simulation of 200 times. I set the seed at the
beginning. It is to estimate the success probability, which is

Sweave/LaTeX Problem with EPS PDF
Dear List:
I am unsure if my problem is with Sweave or LaTeX. Anyhow, I am using the MikTeX distribution and TexnicCenter.
I can easily create Sweave files and all goes well until I try to incorporate graphics. I use the same code as found in the examples found in the users manual.
In R, the graphics I want are created as Sweave is creating the .tex file. When I examine the .tex file

bug in as.POSIXct ?
I think that there is a bug in the as.POSIXct function on Windows.
Here is what I get on Win2000, Pentium III machine in R 1.8.1.
