weighting means
Hi everyone, I've got a dataframe called 'faculty'. I want to do a weighted mean on the column called 'Q8' weighted by the contents of column 'CETP'. In addition, I need to operate on the result of splitting 'faculty' according to the contents of a column 'FACULTY'. For example > lapply(split(faculty$Q8, faculty$FACULTY), mean) $"1" [1]

dma_alloc_coherent issue with tg3 in x86_64 build
During boot of dom0, I get the following. Box is remote, so I''m now waiting for proxy power button pusher ;-) tg3 init fails doing dma_alloc_coherent (I assume this is from tg3_init_one -> tg3_test_dma -> pci_alloc_consistent -> dma_alloc_coherent). Looks like an issue with the amount of memory in dom0. Is this known? thanks, -chris root (hd0,0) Filesystem type is ext2fs,

operating on a subset of a dataframe
Hi everyone, I've got a dataframe with columns of different types. A certain number of columns in the dataframe hold the results of a series of Likert-type items. I've got a function that will print a simple table of frequencies and I want to apply that function to those columns of the dataframe only. What's the best approach? -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: |

Issues with Intel HD graphics 4000
Hey, Are there any known issues with the Intel''s integrated HD graphics 4000? I just bought a new laptop and have tried everything I can think of to get Xen to load. After choosing Xen in GRUB, it just boots to a black screen. There is no error message , no dmesg output, nothing. I have no idea what is causing this problem. I''ve gotten Xen to install with no problems on another

haproxy + submission services -> postfix failure
Hi, I have a nginx server which is using the proxy protocol to forward tcp connections to dovecot. Dovecot is configured to be a submission service for email to be sent. Then postfix should send the email itself which is also using the ha proxy protocol. There are a few moving parts in this problem so I'm not sure where the problem is. But I want to ask if somebody can validate my dovecot

Forcing integers to be nominal
Hi everyone, I've got a problem with an analysis of variance where it appears that my independent variable is being treated as an integer when it should be nominal. The data are being loaded from an SPSS file and the independent variable 'YearColl' corresponds (surprisingly enough) to a student's year in college. :-) The integers 1-4 are used in the dataset for this purpose. ABX at q8
Hello! First of all, 100x thanks to Monty and colleagues: you have done an excellent job! I just didn't believe my ears when I first tested Oggenc 1.0 at q0 to q1 - it sounds AMAZINGLY GOOD !!! But as HDD drives are getting larger and cheaper, most of us move toward higher quality settings ......... I use q8, because: - I was able to ABX some test samples up to q4.99 - at q8 Ogg is still

Strange "Error: subscript out of bounds"
Dear all, I am trying to write a function for visualizing ordinal model results. The function works fine with some values, but then I get "Error: subscript out of bounds" even there the index should be pointing a legal item. Code is below as well as the example of failure: plotProb <- function(pre.mat, parts, split, titles, xlab="") { par(mfrow = split) n <- 1

R for simple stats
Hi everyone, I'm taking a course in statistics as part of my doctoral program in education at the U. of Minnesota, USA. I found R via Rpy, a python module that makes it possible to use R from python scripts. The instructor refers to SPSS a lot and that seems to be the standard stats tool around here. But being more of a Unix guy and not intimidated by programming, I'd like to see if I

[LLVMdev] NEON intrinsics preventing redundant load optimization?
Hi all, I’m not sure if this is the right list, so apologies if not. Doing some profiling I noticed some of my hand-tuned matrix multiply code with NEON intrinsics was much slower through a C++ template wrapper vs calling the intrinsics function directly. It turned out clang/LLVM was unable to eliminate a temporary even though the case seemed quite straightforward. Unfortunately any loads

complex splits
Hi everyone, I'm having trouble figuring out how to split a dataframe more than once. Let's say I have a dataframe d with a certain column called splitcol composed of four possible ordinal values. The same dataframe has two other columns, col1 and col2, that have one of two possible values each. I'd like to split d$splitcol based on col1 and col2 so I can report frequencies of the
