Inserting Date Field into Oracle table using ROracle
Hello, Attached is a mail regarding question how to insert Date field using ROracle package. I am stuck with this problem and appreciate receiving help from gurus on this list. Code used mainly is: library(ROracle) ### --- Version 0.53 drv <- dbDriver("Oracle") con <- dbConnect( drv, "user/passwd") d <- data.frame(CDATE = "2004-03-10 10:12:00") ps

Line plot with date-time on X-axis
Dear List, What is the way in R to plot a graph having date time (e.g. format 12/31/2002 13:12) in the x axis and numerical value (e.g. temperature) on the Y-axis ? I could not get 'plot()' to do this as X axis values are non-numeric. 'bwplot()' sorts the date values and thereby changes the order of the dates and of Y. The date/time values have to be shown on the X-axis as tick

Enright/Chi-square periodogram / periodicity
I am trying to compute the periodicity of a time series. I would like to know which function in R does it. Also, how do I plot a Enright / Chi-square periodogram using R ? ( Enright, J.T., 1965, Journal of Theoret. Biol. 8,426-468) Greatly appreciate your help. Thanks in advance, Sukhaswami Malladi *************************************************************************** The contents

Why can repeated measures anova with within & between subjects design not be done if group sizes are unbalanced?
Dear R people: I wish to switch from SPSS to R, but there is one particular type of ANOVA design that cannot be done in R. Or more likely, it can be done, but it is nowhere documented. The problem is typical for psychologists: You have a repeated measures design with different groups of subjects. Now, this can be done with the aov command, but the number of subjects in both groups must be

Random factor ANOVA, Repeated measures ANOVA, Within subjects designs.
Hi, we are just about to evaluate R as a standard statistics package for our institute. We looked around the help - manual, the FAQ, etc. and did not find anything for the topics of random factors in ANOVA, repeated measures in ANOVA, or within subjects designs in R. Could anyone point us to any information concerning - univariate approach to repeated measures anova - multivariate

Some questions on repeated measures (M)ANOVA & mixed models with lme4
Dear R Masters, I'm an anesthesiology resident trying to make his way through basic statistics. Recently I have been confronted with longitudinal data in a treatment vs. control analysis. My dataframe is in the form of: subj | group | baseline | time | outcome (long) or subj | group | baseline | time1 |...| time6 | (wide) The measured variable is a continuous one. The null hypothesis in

RODBC - dsn specification
Happy New Year to all in the list! I am trying to issue an SQL query to a database from R using RODBC (on Windows). The data source file is on my PC hard disk : C:\Program Files\ODBC\sql.dsn The "\" character does not get interpreted properly in R - it is removed from the file-spec string or if I specify "\\" it appears as such with a syntax error in odbcConnect(dsn,

RMySQL performance over RODBC
R-help list, I ported some R code from MS Windows PC to sun-solaris. Both do queries on the same MySQL database. PC version of R is 1.6.1 and solaris version is 1.6.0. I use RMySQL_0.5-0 (on solaris) and RODBC 1.0-1 on PC to connect to MySQL. The PC version took about 65 mins. to run wheras the Solaris (SunOS 5.7) version took 375 mins. (> 6 hrs). R and RMySQL are resident on the same host

replicates in repeated ANOVA
Hi, I have sort of a newbie question. I've seriously put a lot of effort into how to handle simple replicates in a repeated ANOVA design, but haven't had much luck. I really liked reading "Notes on the use of R for psychology experiments and questionnaires", by Jonathan Baron and Yuelin Li ( http://www.psych.upenn.edu/~baron/rpsych/rpsych.html ) but still didn't run across

between-within anova: aov and lme
I have 2 questions on ANOVA with 1 between subjects factor and 2 within factors. 1. I am confused on how to do the analysis with aov because I have seen two examples on the web with different solutions. a) Jon Baron (http://www.psych.upenn.edu/~baron/rpsych/rpsych.html) does 6.8.5 Example 5: Stevens pp. 468 - 474 (one between, two within) between: gp within: drug, dose aov(effect ~ gp * drug *

Repeated Measures
Hi R Gurus, I am more or less a beginner with R. I have searched your FAQ, manuals, and the archives of this list for an answer to this question, unsuccessfully. I commonly do analysis of chemical characteristics of soils, by depth intervals (e.g. 0-100 mm, 100-200, 200-300, etc), comparing two soil profiles that have received some treatment (effluent). In Genstat I can handle this problem

data format of x in x <- sqlQuery()
All When I read data into an R variable x using RODBC command: x <- sqlQuery(channel,"select a, b from tabl",as="data frame") and view x, I get 3 columns the first one being the index of the rows in x. What options do I use in sqlQuery so as not have the index in x ? How do I get rid of the index otherwise. For some functions like princomp (and boxplot) for

how to run a mixed design ANOVA with repeated measures
Hi, I would like to run an ANOVA with repeated measures with both a between subjects variable and within subjects (repeated measures) variables. I know how to do this when I have equal numbers of subjects in both groups (i.e., balanced design). That has been very well documented by Baron, for example, see: http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/Baron-rpsych.pdf On page 34 of this document,

Repeated Measures design using lme
Hi, I have what I believe is a repeated-measures dataset that I'm trying to analyze using lme(). This is *not* homework, but an exercise in my trying to self-teach myself repeated-measure ANOVA for other *real* datasets that I have and that are extremely similar to the following design. I'm fairly sure the dataset described below would work with lme() -- but it'd be great if anybody

2 factor ANOVA and sphericity
With respect to calculating the epsilon index of sphericity for ANOVA, discussed on pp. 45-47 of: http://www.psych.upenn.edu/~baron/rpsych.pdf It notes that epsilon is not required for a repeated measures design with only k=2 levels, as the minimum value of epsilon (e) is given by: e = 1/(k-1) so for k=2, we have e = 1 (ie, no correction of the F test df; see p. 46). These notes apply to a

please help me on this problem
Dear all: I am totally new to R, actually, statistics software.I get two very simple, even stupid question: 1) where I should put the data file in order to use it , I tried to build a work dir in library( package:base) and save the text file (data) there, then, I use read.table(filename), not work; I tried the full path, still not work. I must have done something wrong. 2) is it possible to create

R for psychology
For those new to this list, I point out that Yuelin Li and I have drafted an introduction to R for psychology, trying to emphasize the things the psychologists usually do. It is at http://www.psych.upenn.edu/~baron/rpsych.pdf and http://www.psych.upenn.edu/~baron/rpsych.htm Because it is a draft, with frequent changes, we have not yet asked for it to be placed in the CRAN page. We welcome

Specifying an appropriate error term in a hierarchical regression
Hi all -- So I'm working through my statistics homework again, and trying to reproduce the examples in the book (Kirk's _Experimental Design_, third edition) in R. This is a completely randomized hierarchical design (CRH-28(A)). The B factor is completely nested within the A factor. Pages 480-482, for those playing along at home. I can use: summary(aov(value ~ a + Error(b),
