Solved: Help plotting some data
Hi!
The other day I asked a couple of questions about plotting some data.
Firstly I wanted to specify the colours used for the text plotted using:
> text(chem.predict[,1:2], labels = km$cluster)
Matt Wiener suggested:
> col.vec <- c("black", "red", "blue")
> text(chem.predict[,1:2], labels = km$cluster, color =
col.vec[km$clusters])
Cheers Matt, that

Bubble plots
Is there a way to create a 'bubble plot' in R?
For example, if we define the following data frame containing the level of y observed for 5 patients at three time points:
time<-c(rep('time 1',5),rep('time 2',5),rep('time 3',5))

biplot label size
Which is the parameter that is used to decrease the size of ylabs
plotted in biplot? I tried playing with cex and cex.lab I am not getting
it right
pc <- princomp(USArrests)
biplot(pc, xlabs = rep("", nrow(USArrests)),ylabs=(colnames(USArrests)))

positioning of separate y-axis labels in xyplot
I like the functionality provided by outer=TRUE, but when it comes time
to place separate xlabs or ylabs, I always end up 'eyeballing' it on a
case-by-case basis. For example,
##begin example
require(lattice)
cars.lo <- loess(dist ~ speed, cars)
print(xyplot(cars.lo$residuals+cars.lo$fitted~cars.lo$x,
strip=FALSE,
outer=TRUE,
layout=c(1,2),

subject: horizontal text in barplot
I have a problem with the ylabs in barplot. When I draw the bars
horizontal the text for the y axis is not drawn horizontal too.
The text remains vertical. How can I change that. Thank's for your advice.
There is an example below.
##Example
plot.new()
jib <- data.frame(c(1:15),c(11:25),c(15:1),c(25:11))

wrong fill colors in polygon-map
Dear all,
I would like to produce a map with information about the patenting
activity in German districts, by coloring districts with different
degrees of patenting activity in different colors. I work with the
packages maptools, maps and spdep. The map data is read from an external
.shp file (+ the corresponding .shx and .dbf files). Plotting a map with
the IDs or the patenting indicator itself

line width in legend of interaction.plot
Dear R developers,
The following command produces an interaction plot with lwd=2.
interaction.plot(c(1, 2, 1, 2), c(1, 1, 2, 2), 1:4, lwd=2)
In the legend, however, lwd seems to be 1, which does not seem
to be intended behavior. Probably the lwd is not correctly forwarded
to legend:
from the interaction.plot source:
legend(xleg, yleg, legend = ylabs, col = col, pch = if (type %in%

Modifying a built-in R function
Hello,
Something incredible (at least for me) has happen. Yesterday night I
downloaded biplot.R to edit this function and add new features I wished.
Namely I wanted to plot points belonging to different groups using different
colors and symbols. I identified which part of the original code I had to
modify. Then, I rename biplot by biplotes and executing biplotes(x), being x

lineplot.CI problem
Hi List,
I have a problem plotting data using the lineplot.CI command in the sciplot package.
I want to plot the data of 2 experimental cases using different lines (traces). Time is on the X-axis. The tricky thing is that the data collection in the second case started later than for the first case. This is to say: the first n data points for the second case are missing.
So far so good. However,

R-alpha: boxplot(..., varwidth = TRUE, ...) in 0.50a4
To use Ron Ziegler's famous phrase, that argument is "no longer
operative". The code for the bxp function, which is what is called to
actually do the plotting, has a section
if (!is.null(width)) {
if (length(width) != n | any(is.na(width)) |
any(width <= 0))
stop("invalid boxplot widths")
width <- 0.8 * width/max(width)
}

R-beta: problem with graphics parameter "fin"
Hi,
I have the following problem (with R 0.61.3 an Linux, and a new and empty
workspace)
> oldpar<-par()
> par(oldpar)
Error: attempt to set invalid value for graphics parameter "fin".
> oldpar$fin

but now:
> oldpar$fin <- c(6.99,6.99)
> par(oldpar)
it works.
It seems, that if I set oldpar$fin to values greater than listed above

Changing tick mark labels
Hello,
Can anyone help me out with this problem?
After performing logistic regressions and testing the significance with
likelihood ratios, I have plotted the results using "termplot". I am
wondering, how to get the names of my variables to appear on the x-axis
rather than ascending numbers?
I have used:
termplot(fm, se=T, axes=FALSE, col.se="black")

PCA analysis
Hi,
I have a problem with making PCA plots that are readable.
I would like to set different sympols instead of the numbers of my samples or their names, that I get plotted (xlabs).
How is this possible? With points, i don“t seem to get the right data plotted onto the PCA plot, as I do not quite understand from where it is taken. I dont know how to
plot the correct columns of the prcomp

gboxplot (JMP Diamond plot in R?)
I am looking to replicate the functionality of the JMP diamond plot in R. I have found the following enhancement and no other references(see below). I have tried to contact the author via email and I have had no luck.
Does any know if this functionality exists in R? If it does not does anyone know how to contact the author of the enhancement request?
