I'm looking at Pinheiro & Bates "Mixed-Effects Models in S and S-PLUS" at the moment. Several datasets are used, one of which is called "PBIB" (a partially balanced incomplete block design). All the other datasets can be found somewhere or other in R. However, I cannot locate PBIB, and it does not seem to be mentioned in the latest edition of the R Full Reference

Hi all, I would like to know how the BIC criterion is calculated for models estimated using gls( ) function. I read in Pinheiro & Bates (2000) p84 that BIC = -2logL + npar*log(N) (for the ML method), or BIC = -2logLR + npar*log(N-p) (for the REML method) but when I use any of these formulae I don't obtain the result given by R. Indeed, the anova function produces sequential tests and it doesn't have any "type" argument to specify that we would like marginal tests instead, as in the similar anova function for lme objects. Funny thing. My Xen3 kernel does only find /dev/sda where i''m booting from, but not the other scsi disks like /dev/sdb.... (In fact all they aren''t real scsi disks. It''s a fibre channel SAN storage.) Has anyone an idea, why i can view with my Xen3 kernel only the first device? Thanks for any help. I use Mac, tried to install the package hdf5-1.6. Its configuration script can't find zlib, which apparently exists in my /usr directory. I used R CMD INSTALL --configure-args=--with-hdf5=/sw --configure-args=--with-zlib=/usr hdf5....tar.gz It still can't find zlib. Is this a bug? Any pointer is appreciated. Zepu

Hi, all, I have been trying to use adimpro. I have installed ImageMagick via fink and also through MacPorts. You have to run ./tools/wineinstall as a normal user, not root. Ivan.
