cross-validation for choosing regression trees
Dear All, We came across a problem when using the "tree" package to analyze our data set. First, in the "tree" function, if we use the default value "mindev=0.01", the resulting regression tree has a single node. So, we set "mindev=0", and obtain a tree with 931 terminal nodes. However, when we further use the "cv.tree" function to run a 10-fold

using HTML frames with rails
Hi: I''m trying to get a page setup with the left side having a collapsable javascript menu (built from the database) and the right side having more data about each node in the tree... very standard actually. I figured frames would be a good way to go, because as the tree expands as the user dives further in, the frame will add scroll bars without disrupting the left hand side. The

Rails and Framesets
I''d like to use a frameset to separate the content in an app I''m playing with into 3 separate panes. A 1/3 page width left pane will be for general navigation, (so rarely needs reloading). The main content separates into a top and bottom pane, (with the top pane being set by the nav pane, and the bottom pane being set by the top pane). Unfortunately, I''m new to

question regarding to The tree Package for R
I have a problem with running the tree package (dec.8, 2001) for R. The problem is, it will only give me 5/6 terminal node and then stop, while using Splus's tree on the same data with the same specification give me hundreds of nodes. Here's a little more background info: R-1.4.1 Solaris 5.7 rpart (most recent version) tree (..) Splus 6.0 Solaris 5.7 tree

system.file("",package) (PR#1062)
system.file("",package") is documented to return the root of the package (as it did in the past). It actually returns "" (Win98, R1.3.0), breaking the SJava package Omitting the first argument does work correctly and so is a workaround if the argument is explicitly "" but not if it is the value of a variable. -thomas

read.spss, R 1.3.0, win2k
read.spss() is giving "Rgui.exe has generated errors and will be closed..." on all the files I have tried (the same happens with Rterm as well). This is R1.3.0 and the current `foreign',under Win2k. The problem doesn't happen under Linux on a different machine and didn't happen with an earlier version of R and foreign under NT4 on a different machine. As I updated to a new
