Help needed getting rsync to copy from windows to mac
I'm trying to use rsync to copy files from a Microsoft Windows machine (XP, with cygwin) to a macintosh (10.5.8, PPC). After a lot of playing with options, manual page reading, etc, I have the following command, executed on the windows machine: rsync -A -X -a --delete --rsync-path="/opt/local/bin/rsync --fake-super --log-file=/tmp/rlog.txt" /cygdrive/c/DRIVERS "rsync at

Very slow domU network performance
I set up a domU as a backup server, but it has very, very poor network performance with external computers. I ran some tests with iperf and found some very weird results. Using iperf, I get these approximate numbers (the left column is the iperf client and the right column is the iperf server): domU --> domU 1.77 Gbits/sec (using 127.0.0.1) domU --> domU 1.85 Gbits/sec (using domU

Samba on MacOSX and printing
Hi all, an iBook running Mac OS X 10.2 recently joined my little network, so i did configure it for using a Windows shared printer (HP Officejet G55), naturally through SMB protocol. I used CUPS for setting it up. Now, the problem: if i try to print from the iBook, the printer takes about 10 minutes for throwing out each page and the document seems to be continuously spooled up to windows.

R-1.5.1 for Darwin/X11
The file ftp://gifi.stat.ucla.edu/pub/R-1.5.1.dmg has grown to 60 MB. It consists of a meta-package and its packages and it will allow you to install binaries for R-1.5.1 and about 300 packages, just by clicking the R-1.5.1.mpkg file. It also install quite a few dylibs in /sw, but not the ones for X11R6 and gnome yet. You can choose which of the packages to install, of course. The same

how to update installed packages to a new version of R?
I've just installed R 1.6.1 and would like to install all the contributed packages I had used in 1.5.1. It's not too hard to do this manually from Rgui, but I wondered if there is an easier way, something like writing the results of installed.packages() from 1.5.1 to a file and using that with install.packages() in 1.6.1, or just having 1.6.1 read what's in rw151/library. --

List of lists? Data frames? (Or other data structures?)
Hi, I'm faced with the following problem and would appreciate some advice. I could have a data frame x that looks like this: aa bb a 1 "A" b 2 "B" The advantage of this is that I could access all the individual components easily. Also I could access all the rows and columns easily. Alternatively, I could have a list of

Bug in boxplot(..., add=TRUE) ?
R 1.6.1 on Windows NT4: The boxplot() function appears to draw its own tick marks and axis values even when called with add=TRUE. As a toy example, try x <- rnorm(100) f <- factor(rep(1:4, each=25)) plot(c(0,4), c(-3,3), type="n", xaxt="n", yaxt="n") boxplot(x ~ f, add=TRUE) My expectation is that a high-level plotting function will not mess with the axes

Writing packages with `methods' package
I'm trying to write a package which uses classes/methods as defined in the `methods' package. I have a single .R file which defines the class and various methods for that class. At the top of the file I have require(methods) and then setClass("myclass", ...) setGeneric("intersect") setMethod("intersect", "myclass", function(x,y) ...) I noticed

r-help, I can't seem to get the below data organized in such a manner so as to generate a contour plot using any of the functions {lattice.contourplot, base.contour, base.filled.contour}. geoR question from new R user
Hi, I'm a new R user. My goal is to do a variogram using geoR. I started by trying to do the example in the geoR Illustrative Session using my own data. I am able to read in my Ascii data using: D <- matrix(scan("file.dat", n=530*3), 530,3, byrow=TRUE). Then I use: as.geodata(D, coords.col=1:2, data.col=3) to make the object D geodata. I check the descriptive statistics,

building r-devel on RedHat 7.1 with gcc 3.1.1
Has anyone tried to build r-devel on a RedHat 7.1 with the gcc 3.1.1 compiler? I didn't have problems with gcc 2.95.x or gcc 3.0.4, but when I ran the configure with gcc 3.1.1 I got the following error: [...] checking whether gcc accepts -M for generating dependencies... yes checking whether gcc supports -c -o FILE.lo... yes checking how to get verbose linking output from g77... -v checking

cdf of the standard normal distribution
Dear Experts, I need to calculate the cdf of the standard normal distribution, i.e. H(x) = 1/sqrt(2*pi) integral(exp(-z^2/2) dz), where z is b/w -infi to infi. I know there should be a way to do it in R, but did not know to do it. I'd appreciate any help you could offer. Charlie Liu Graduate student intern at EPA/ECO

Ideas needed on automation of R
I need some guidance on what is the best way to automate R I am aware of Rterm. First question: Is it true that R is not currently OLE accessible under Windows 2000? Second question: Is there an R command that echoes all R Console results to a run log system file? My first attempt to write a run log file is the example from the R Data Inport/Export documentation. > zz<-

OS X slow with Samba server
I have an Apple iBook running OS X 10.2 connected to my network via an 802.11b wireless network. When I transfer files via SMB with my Windows 2000 computer, the speed seems reasonable. However, when I connect to a share on my Debian (x86) box (kernel 2.4.19) running Samba 2.2.3a-12 for Debian, the speed is only about a sixth as fast (transferring files to or from the Win2k box is about 6

gif, jpeg and png image files reader
Hi all, Although R seems to have jpeg() and png() functions that converts data into jpeg and png formated files, it doesn't have functions the other way around. Does one of R contributed packages have gif, jpeg and png image readers? I did help.search() but no luck Regards, Jonathan -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read

error installing package in linux R
I've been using R on windows for a number of years, so when I recently installed Linux I wanted to install R as well. Downloading and installing the rpm's for R-Base and R-recommended went well and I seem to have a functioning R. I then downloaded the quadreg package and used R CMD INSTALL to install it. All went well up to a message: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lreadline which stopped

R sample session
Hi: I'm trying to do the sample session listed in Appendix A of the "Introduction to R" manual from: http://cran.R-project.org/manuals.html I've already downloaded R-1.5.1.tgz from: http://cran.r-project.org/ The problem is I can't find the file "morley.tab" which I need to start the sample session (as stated in the manual). Do you know where I can find it?
