Draw ellipses in S-PLUS or R?
Dear S-PLUS/R users:
Do you know any default function or a user contributed function that
can draw an ellipse with given axes and origin? Thanks for any help.
Paul.

Semi-random movement inside a circle
Dear list,
I am trying to program semi-random movement within a circle, with no particles leaving the circle. I would like them to bounce back when they come to close to the wall, but I don't seem to be able to get this right. Would somebody kindly give me a hint ? This is my code so far, the particle starts at some point and moves towards the wall, but I don't get the "bouncing

Re ading and Creating Shape Files
Hello R Community,
I have imported a dataset which contain X Y coordinates and would like to
recreate a shape file after some data analysis. What i have done is to
import some taxlot data and join them based on some criteria. I want to
check to see how well the joining went by reviewing the results in GIS.
A couple things. I cant seem to import a shape file correctly using the

Graphical parameters in perspective plot
Hello,
I've a problem for setting graphical parameters in perspective plot
(function persp).
I wonder if it's possible to add some text (function text) on an
existing persp plot USING the axis coordinates.
In fact I want to add some text on a persp plot according to x
coordinates.
I've tried to use text(xcoord, ycoord, label="toto") but the toto text
doesn't appear at

overlap two graph
Hi everyone,I need you all help.
I want to create few image in same diagram.
For example, I wan draw two ellipse in same diagram.
plot(ellipsePoints(2,5, alpha = 60), asp=1)
and
plot(ellipsePoints(2,5, alpha = 30), asp=1)
How to display both ellipse together? both is different in angle.
Thank you.

Dear all,
Who will bail me out. Iam using R with S-Splancs. Anytime i typed in the syntex, an error will appear eg setwd("C:\\TEMP)

Removing characters and periods from character strings
Hello R-users,
I have code that gives me the important variables from an analysis. I
need to input these variables into a different analysis. To do this, I
need to modify them slightly... 1) remove all numbers at the end of the
variables, 2) remove all periods.
I tried to do it with the awkward code below. It works to remove all
the numbers, but when I try to remove the period everything

projecting GIS coordinates for analysis with spatstat package
I am working on creating an R package for doing fire department analysis and
am trying to create a function that can display emergency incident
densities. The following code sort of does the trick, but I need a display
that shows the number of incidents per square mile. I believe the code
below shows incidents per square unit (in this case, degrees lat/long).
To solve this problem, I believe

randomForests predict problem
Hello everybody,
I'm testing the randomForest package in order to do some simulations and I
get some trouble with the prediction of new values. The random forest
computation is fine but each time I try to predict values with the newly
created object, I get an error message. I thought I was because NA values
in the dataframe, but I cleaned them and still got the same error. What am

drawing ellipses in R
Hello,
I have been following the thread dated Monday, October 9, 2006 when Kamila Naxerova asked a question about plotting elliptical shapes. Can you explain the equations for X and Y. I believe they used the parametric form of x and y (x=r cos(theta), y=r sin(theta). I don't know what r is here ? Can you explain 1)the origin of these equations and 2) what is r?
Sincerely,
Mary A. Marion

Line width in graphs
Hi,
I'm using R to plot some data and associated linear models, and I was
wondering if there was a parameter to fix the line width in the graphs (for
axis, lines, ...) because I explored the associated help pages and could
not find it.
Thx in advance,

specified location(x-y coordinates) and be able to produce contour map.
I've tried to use the package called fields in R (function smooth.2d)

understand why? Your contributions will be highly appreciated or if

i do have a matrix of coordinates (positional judgments, see below) and
now want to calculate and plot the corresponding error ellipse.
can anyone help me with the exact steps/syntax?

plotting muliple CI ellipses for EB estimates
I have empirical Bayes estimates for slopes and intercepts for a number of
subjects and I would like to plot the slopes and intercepts with confidence
ellipses. These ellipses would be based on the confidence intervals for the
slope and intercepts (forming the major and minor axis of each ellipse), and
the correlation in the slope and intercepts.

Creating a factor from a combination of vectors
Dear list,
Here's a little problem I already solved with my own coding style, but I
feel there is a more efficient and cleaner way to write it, but had no
success finding the "clever" solution.
I want to produce a factor from a subset of the combination of two
vectors. I have the vectors a et b in a data-frame :
> df <- expand.grid(a=c(0, 5, 10, 25, 50), b=c(0, 25, 50,
