window (x,y) co-ordinates of datapoints
Hi, In the getGraphicsEvent function the (x,y) co-ordinates returned from the mouse move are in relation to where the mouse is located within the device window (i.e. the lower left corner of the window is '(0,0)', the upper right is '(1,1)'). Is there a way of returning the (x,y) co-ordinates of data points plotted where instead of x and y being the actual data points they are

Creating a point pattern with cartesian co-ordinates
I have the following data from an image analysis program, in which the x and y co-ordinates are locations of the centroids of shapes on a 2 dimensional plot. The Y co-ordinates were positive, but I changed them to negative as the resulting scatterplot was upside down (the image analysis program reads from the top of the image to the bottom, so it seems) I now need these as point pattern data, as I

Spatial join between two datasets using x and y co-ordinates
Hi R users I am trying to create a spatial join between two datasets. The first data set is large and contains descriptive data including x and y co-ordinates. The second dataset is small and has been selected spatially. The only data contained within the second dataset is the x and y coordinates only i.e. no descriptive data. The aim of a join made between the two datasets is to select

Distances between two datasets of x and y co-ordinates
Hi all I am trying to determine the distances between two datasets of x and y points. The number of points in dataset One is very small i.e. perhaps 5-10. The number of points in dataset Two is likely to be very large i.e. 20,000-30,000. My initial approach was to append the first dataset to the second and then carry out the calculation: dists <- as.matrix(dist(gis data from 2 * datasets))

Returning contour co-ordinates
Dear R-helpers, I'd like to be able to post-process contours coming from contour(). Does anyone have a version of contour() (or something similar) which will return the contour coordinates? In searching the archives I've come across a message in Nov 01 which had this on a wish-list, but I can find no later reference. With thanks, John Field Adelaide, South Australia

Character height & width in user co-ordinates
Is there an equivalent to the S-PLUS par()$cxy in R? Also, is it possible to get notice taken of some equivalent of \n in R when using text()? For what it is worth I am using RW-0.64.1. Samba Won't start after upgrading Operating system
I ungraded my Linux Operating system from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to 8.04 LTS Samba will not start after an upgrade to 18.04. My samba is running as an NT style member server server with smbd nmbd and winbindd all running. None of them will start. It worked this morning. This morning it was running Version 4.3.11-Ubuntu This afternoon after the upgrade it's Version 4.7.6-Ubuntu The logs in

Issue displaying DATES on a plot with two ordinates
Dear all, I am having an issue with displaying the dates on a plot with two ordinates (i.e. two differently scaled y-axes). Instead of dates appearing on the x-axis I am instead seeing a string of numbers (14460, 14465, 14470 and 14475). example R code: library(plotrix) x.Left <- as.Date(c('2009-08-04', '2009-08-08', '2009-08-11', '2009-08-15',

Can R do rts (Regular Time Series) like S-Plus?
Dear readers, S-Plus have a rts function (Regular Time Series), which is used like so: fveks<-read.csv('http://louise.hoffman.googlepages.com/veks.csv',header=TRUE,sep=',') attach(fveks) acf(ts.intersect(rts(HC.f),rts(Ta.f),rts(GR.f),rts(W.f))) Warning the csv file is 750kB. Can the same be done in R? Lots of love =) Louise

ks.test not working?
Hi, I am performing GEV analysis on temperature/precipitation data and want to use the ks.boot function but I am unsure of how to implement it using the pgev distribution. For example: ks.test(data, pgev, shape, location, scale) ks.boot(data,(distribution parameters?),alternative="pgev",nboots=1000) Any advice? Apologies in advance if I have used the wrong email address. Regards, Louise

Unexpected values obtained when reading in data using ncdf and ncdf4
Dear R Users, I am encountering a problem when reading nc files into R using the ncdf and ncdf4 libraries. The nc files are too large to attach an example (but if someone is interested in helping out I could send a file privately via an online drive), but the code is basic: for(i in 1:length(thesenames[,1])){ data <- nc_open(paste(INDIR, thesenames[i,c("wholename")],

Need help to locate my mistake
Dear readers I would like to make General Linear Model (GLM) for the following data set http://louise.hoffman.googlepages.com/fuel.csv The code I have written is fuelData<-read.table('fuel.csv',header=TRUE, sep=',') n<-dim(fuelData)[1] xOnes<- matrix(1,nrow=n,ncol=1) x<-cbind(xOnes,fuelData[,3]) y<-fuelData[,4] theta<-((t(x)%*%x)^(-1))%*%t(x)%*%y which gives

creating categorical frequency tables from continuous data
Hello, I am working with a dataset which essentially has only one column - a list of distances in metres, accurate to several decimal places. eg distance 1000 6403.124 1000 1414.214 1414.214 1000 I want to organise this into a frequency table, grouping into categories of 0 - 999, 1000 - 1999, 2000-2999 etc. I'd also like the rows where there are no data points in that category to

Creating polygons from scattered points
Hello, I have a distribution dataset for species consisting of xy coordinates at the 1km resolution, with only presence data. So a simplified example of a species distribution might be: y <- rbind(as.integer(rnorm(100,50,20)), as.integer(rnorm(200,100,30)), as.integer(rnorm(100,180,15))) x <- rbind(as.integer(rnorm(200,50,20)), as.integer(rnorm(200,100,20)), as.integer(rnorm(100,200,15)))

Hello I have been trying to figure out how to randomly select a number of records. I have a column "ID" which contains 16 individuals (numbered 1-16), each individual has a few hundred rows of GPS locations associated with it. I am trying to select a random sample of these individuals (with all their associated GPS locations) to run a kernel density analysis on, and need to repeat this
