RDig and AAF playing together
I have a site with two indexes. Index A is created offline by RDig
and queried from the web via RDig (specifically,
RDig.searcher.search). Index B is managed by AAF with :remote =>
true. Simple enough. However, I need to query both indexes from RDig.
Usually this is ok, as I modified RDig to accept an array of
search_paths with an element for index A and index B.
However, when Index

Many index files
I''m using acts_as_ferret and have indexed a model with acts_as_ferret
:fields => [:name, :ascii_name, :alt_names], :single_index => true.
Now in the index directory more than 95.000 files are generated! The
number of tuples I''m indexing is approx. 86.000.
I can''t remember this from earlier ferret/acts_as_ferret versions where
I''ve indexed millions of

Newbie problem on production server
Hi,
I just installed ferret for the first time and integrated it with my
app. On my dev machine it''s fine but on my production server I get this

ferret (0.11.4-mswin32) w/ acts as ferret
i''m indexing a table from some legacy db via a nightly executed
script/runner command (LegacyInfobase.rebuild_index).
but very often newer documents don''t show up in search results for quite
some days. when running it manually from console for diagnosis it mostly
stops with this error (but not always):

acts as ferret, make index in /tmp then copy back to avoid NFS slowness?
Hi,
We''re happily using Ferret through acts_as_ferret on a Rails website,
but we have an issue with rebuilding indexes.
The Rails project directories are on an NFS mounted volume and
running Model.rebuld_index there seems to take 60-100 times longer
than it does on a local filesystem (e.g. /tmp).
What we''d like to do is rebuild our indexes in say /tmp, then copy
them back when

Hi
I use Ferret 0.11.4 and the latest stabel version of the acts_as_ferret
plugin.
To the issue. if I do Model.rebuild_index and after that try to update
one of my objects of that Model I get:

index browser inconsistent with IndexReader
Hi,
We have an index of around 1M web pages as part of our web app. The
app uses ferret by way of RDig to perform searches. We have noticed
anecdotally that some searches don''t work the way we thought they
should, as if documents were missing from the index. Yesterday we
came upon a concrete instance of this.
Our documents have several fields, one of which is called :keywords

Dynamic fields and AAF
Hi,
I have a model which has properties, these are your standard name/value
pairs, but also have attributes that affect how I want to store them in
ferret. I was using 0.9.5 with 0.2 of aaf, which seemed fine, I just
copied and pasted (yes, I know, ick) the to_doc method and added code to
iterate though the properties that that model had, and add relavent
fields to the document.
It seems

AAF Sorting by date - what am I doing wrong?
I''m trying to sort my search results by Date, in descending order. I''ve
done quite a bit of reading through the forums here, and I''ve tried two
different suggestions.
This just returns results in the same order as a search without a sort:
sort_fields = []
sort_fields <<
Ferret::Search::SortField.new("ferret_created_at",:reverse => :true)

Ferret indexing problem through rake tasks
I''m having a weird problem. Recently, on all my environments, one of my
two indexed models is not returning any results to acts_as_ferret.
However, the folder is being created for it and Im not receiving any
errors.
On my two models, I call the following:
Book.rebuild_index
User.rebuild_index
When I call those commands through either my live app "ruby
script/server" or

Advise on slowness in bootstrapping?
I am looking at trying to use ferret/aaf to supplement my querying against a
medium and large table with lots of columns. Some facts first:
Ferret 0.11.4
AAF 0.4.0
Ruby 1.8.6
Rails 1.2.3
Medium table:
105,464 rows
168 columns (mostly varchar(20))
11 actual columns indexed in aaf plus
40 virtual columns indexed in aaf (virtual is concat of two physical columns.

How index works!
Hi, i''ve a project in wich i have 2 different rails apps accessing the
same DB.
The backoffice, as usual, changes data.
The frontoffice has a search capabilities with acts_as_ferret
(paginated) for search.
Maybe this is a newbie question but, when i delete index and restart
front app all the articles are indexed, but the new one''s (via
backoffice) are not searchable.

[ActsAsFerret] OpenSolaris (TextDrive) indexing issues
Gents,
I successfully installed AAF on my TextDrive OpenSolaris Container, but
I''m having some issues with indexing.
I have a model called Blogs which has AAF enabled.
The first time I tried to find_by_contents for a ''word'' I know was on
the Database I got now results. Apparently the index was not ready yet.
Then I waited a few hours and checked that the /index

Offline indexing issues
If I disable ferret in my environment file and then run a cron job
every hour to index the records that have been added/changed, do I
enable Ferret just in the script that does the hourly indexing? Or do
I somehow need to tell the process that runs the Ferret DRB server
that it should start writing to the index again? Thanks in advance.

disabling automatic indexing in acts_as_ferret
I''d like to be able to enable/disable the automatic indexing of
documents acts_as_ferret does. Something like MyModel.disable_indexing
MyModel.enable_indexing would be perfect. I need this because I do some
indexing that requires visiting the parents of the model objects and my
import method imports the children first, so the information isn''t there
yet. I''d like to

pagination in acts_as_ferret
I''m just wondering where I would put the pagination for search results
when using "acts_as_ferret".
At the moment my search code is..
def search
@query = params[:query] || ''''
unless @query.blank?
@results = Tutorial.find_by_contents @query
end
end

highlighting from multiple indexes
Hi.
I''m searching multiple indexes by passing an array of paths to
Index::IndexReader.new(). I get several hits back, and can determine
the document id of each.
Now I want to fetch highlighted excerpts from a field in one of the
matched documents. The problem I''m having is that Index::IndexReader
doesn''t have a highlight() method. And, while Index::Index does

Ignore apostrophes in words
Hi, I just started using ferret and the aaf plugin and it seems to work
quite nicely. However, my fields are very short (titles of music) and I
don''t think may users will be typing in apostrophes when they are
looking for something. Right now, for a simple document such as "what
i''ve done" I''d like it to be indexed as "what ive done" instead. Right
