R-1.5.0: compiling package foreign on WinNT failed
Dear R-help,
I was able to build R-1.5.0 on WinNT w/o problem (actually it seems easier
than previous version). However, I encountered problem when trying to
compile the recommended package foreign:

Hello.
First, I'm thankful about your wonderful project.
However, I have serious worries about the reliability of R. I found
the next bug which I consider important because in my job everytime We

Rgui crashes
My Rgui crashes quite a lot when entering certain characters. I put a
freshly extracted msvcrt.dll into the rw1050\bin directory, but this did not
fix the problem. Perhaps, as stated in the FAQ section, I need also "put the
rw1050\bin directory early in your path" but I do not know how to do it in
Windows Me. Please could you give me some help?

Trying to install the binary distribution (zip file) for the "pixmap" package,

Library Tcltk
Dears users,
Thanks for your responses concerning my question of yesterday (about stand-alone
package). Il would like to explore two ways:
-- Tcltk extension,
-- Rweb application.
I have installed ActiveTcl (in F:\Tcl), and I have modified the PATH (in the
autoexec.bat file):
set R_LIBS=F:\R\rw1050\library
set PATH=%PATH%;F:\Tcl\bin
set PATH=%PATH%;F:\Tcl\lib
set PATH=%PATH%;F:\R\rw1050\bin

Is this a bug of pweibull()? (Follow up)
Please allow me to add just a little more about this:
nothing wrong with pweibull(), namely, the two cases I reported:
pweibull(3:10, 2) and pweibull(3:10, 2.1),
in rw1041 and earlier version.
I wonder this might just due to the change from rw1041 to rw1050,
however, I can't find anything relevant (seems to me) in the News
or Readme.
Thanks Sundar for the suggestion of using 1 -

Ordinal categorical data with GLM
Hello All:
I am trying to replicate the results of an example found in Alan
Agresti's "Categorical Data Analysis" on pages 267-269. The example is
one of a 2 x 2 cross-classification table of ordinal counts: job
satisfaction and income.
I am able to get Agresti's results for the independence model (G^2 =
12.03 with df = 9) assuming as he does that the data is nominal, but

chi square test is not appropriate? but what test is
Hallo all
Suppose I have a summary amount of various colours used in
different areas
colour plastic paint
black 15.5 173.8
brown 6.0 523.2
green 2.5 6.4
red 77.1 237.4
yellow 144.6 77.3
It seems that there are some preferable colours in these two areas
(yellow in plastic, brown an red in paint).
The problem seems to me similar to chi square test but it is
intended for testing counts or

can't boot isohybrid-ized image on CG2100
I have a isohybrid-ized image (isohybrid.pl from syslinux-4.03, no
options passed) which works on several other systems, but can't boot a
Kontron CG2100 from stick (same image boots fine from a portable CD-ROM
drive though). The BIOS shows its initial splash, accesses the stick,
then the system reboots - no errors logged in the BIOS event log. I
tried disabling the "USB boot

updata.packages()
Something strange is happening with update.packages on my machine (Win2000,
R-1.5.0 installed from binaries). Some of the packages (see below) keep
getting updated every time. When I issue update.packages() I get this
every time for the last few days (I think since I installed 1.5 and the
packages but I am not sure). This happens with CRAN shown below and also

package lattice
Hi!
I am using R1.5.0. When using functions form lattice the background is
dark grey. I have tried to change it using par() but it does not work. By
the way, if I use par and the standard functions like hist() there is no
problem with the par function. Any hints?
Thank in advance,

R-patched for Windows
I've put up a build of the current R-patched (and updated recommended
packages) for Windows at
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin/Rpre/SetupRpatched.exe
This should be able to rename files on Win 9x (unlike the mid-May build)
and can build packages accessing Rblas.dll.
As ever, this is less tested than an official release, in particular only
on Windows XP, but ought to have fewer

programming in R
I have a probably basic problem concerning the R language.
I will write some small R programs but don't really know how to start. Do I have
to create my files in some editor like emacs or can I write my code in the R
prompt? How to compile the code?
I haven't found any good manual parts about this subject.
