followup -- deficiencies in readline capability
Why would R lack history capability?
Someone in a private electronic mail message suggested the possibility
that I was running R in a non-writable directory. This is not the
case, as the following logfile shows (where "$ " is my shell prompt):
$ ls -ld `pwd`
drwxrwxrwx 15 sys sys 2560 Apr 30 08:10 /tmp
$ R --vanilla

Ok, a patch[1] is attached. I didn't care to coerce the offset, since I
assume that it is an uint, but maybe I should? Hopefully I've understood

Build R static
Hi, I am having trouble building R static on Solaris 5.10. I have a requirement to run R within a specific user account on Solaris 5.10 and I do not have access to compilers and or shared libraries on the target machine. I thought I could build R static ( I've build it locally on Solaris with shared libraries) and just ftp the build to the target Solaris box. Can any help with what

[LLVMdev] GC questions.
Ok, here's the new patch. (Please tell me if I shouldn't mail patches
directly on the mailing list.)
While I was editing LowerGC.cpp I made a little test (not part of this
patch, but the diff with LowerGC.cpp in cvs is attached). I've added a new
intrinsic called llvm.gcroot_value(sbyte*, sbyte*), which takes a pointer
directly instead and transforms it into an alloca. The idea is the

[PATCH] some patches for Fujitsu-Siemens ReliantUNIX, minor fixes and XXXes
Hi,
attached please find some patches for ReliantUNIX. This was tested under
Reliant UNIX V5.43C40 with Compiler CDSDEV V2.0C00.
Here is what I did:
- there is a common misunderstanding how to use /usr/libucb/libucb.a:
There are some library functions only in libucb.a under ReliantUNIX, so
one needs to bind it. The problem is: there are some other functions in
this library you should never

R Graphics Crash Problem
I recently built R 1.6.2 on solaris 2.8 with gcc 3.2.
Things seem to run OK, but using graphics causes R to
core dump. (For instance, by using the plot() or
hist() functions.) Sometimes I can see the graphics
drawn before it actually core dumps. The core file
shows a crash in Rf_gpptr.
I'm quite new to R, so I don't know what info would be
helpful for diagnosis. I'm including

Asterisk 1.4.4 reproducibly dumps core on Solaris 10
I have built Asterisk 1.4.4 on my Solaris 10 x86 box:
LDFLAGS='-R/usr/sfw/lib -R/opt/csw/lib -L/opt/csw/lib -L/usr/sfw/lib'
CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/csw/include ./configure -with-curl=/opt/csw
--without-oss --without-vpb --prefix=/opt/asterisk-1.4
The build and install go fine but the asterisk executable reproducibly
dumps core with a segmentation violation.
If I start it as: asterisk -gc and

More info on: Solaris 9 + quota = configure script error?
See the mail below, I sent yesterday.
When changing the text '*solaris*' in the configure script to
'solaris*', the configure and make is going just fine. In other
words: the file include/config.h contains a define for SUNOS5
I don't wanna be a smart-ass, but looking at other packages which
use the configure script style configuration, they mostly use 'solaris*'

problem with samba 3.0.28/Solaris 8/smbclient
Dear Samba users,
I am trying to update our local samba packages to 3.0.28.
They are built against heimdal-1.0.1 and openldap-2.3.38.
The Redhat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4 packages are working
fine so far in my limited testing. The problem with heimdal
and "net ads join..." has been fixed on all 3 platforms.
On the Solaris 8 server, the "net ads join..." works
correctly and the

configure.ac libedit problem solved
Turns out that Suse 11.1 needs a soft link:
ln -s /lib64/libncurses.so.5.6 /lib64/libcurses.so
This is pretty poor error reporting....
I wonder how many carps are due to building not properly reporting errors...
Thanks

[PATCH] use pkg-config to look up ncurses
Hardcoding -ltinfo breaks on distros that do not build the sep library
(which is the default ncurses behavior). Use pkg-config to look up the
right libraries regardless of how the distro built things.

compiling samba 4.7.1 on centos 7
If anyone has any info on this it would be really helpful.
Also, it looks like centos 7.4 has krb5 1.15.1. If I build with samba-dc turned on, will that be okay as the krb5 version is new enough?

Once more, with diffs... (configure.in aclocal.m4 patch against CVS)
The attached unified diff fixes configure so that all --with-libfoo options
are allowed to be --with-libfoo=PATH. If the option is specified with a
PATH, only that PATH is searched for the library. If it is specified as
=yes or with no argument, it tries without modifying anything, and then
tries looking in /usr/local. The SunOS5 targets no longer add /usr/local to
include or library paths
