Rai and Van Ryzin Model
R-users, Has anyone implemented (coded) the Rai and Van Ryzin dose-response model from their 1985 Biometrics paper. I'm trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel. If not any hints on coding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -- ==================== Calvin L. Williams, Ph.D. ==================== Department of Mathematical Sciences, Clemson University

Optimized Likelihoods
R-Users, I'm in the process of developing some notes on optimizing likelihoods for a class I'm teaching next term. Can anyone offer examples showing the optimization of a complex likelihood function that they wouldn't mind sharing using optim(). I've adapted some of the S-plus likelihood examplesfrom the ``Guide to Statistics" and the Zip example from ``Statistical Models in

Mover Stayer Models
Does anyone know how to program mover stayer models in R? They are a type of Markov chain model where there is a group of people who stays in the same place, a group who always moves, and a group who does both. Thanks. Leanne Sanders sanders.486@osu.edu [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

problems with glm (PR#771)
R1.2.0 with Linux RH5.2 I do not believe that the problems below are new to 1.2 but I only cover this sort of thing once a year in my course and some of that happened to be last Friday so too late to report for 1.2. I see that one or two things that I was going to report have been corrected. I like the fact that interactions now show : instead of . Here is some output with comments inserted. R

Survdiff for multiple comparisons
Hello all- I am doing a survival analysis for two species of invasive plants I outplanted to edges and interiors of island and mainland sites in a local reservoir. I am using the KM estimate and had no problem doing survdiff for my data using the following code: S4<-Surv(outplant$SurvTime, outplant$StatusD6) diff4=survdiff(S4 ~ outplant$Species+outplant$SiteType+outplant$EdgInt) diff4

delete rows
Hello. I came across your response in an R forum and could use your help. I have a data set with 472 rows. I want to delete rows 416 through 472. The name of my data set is MERGE. I am an extreme R novice. How do I write a script to accomplish this? Thank you. --- Christopher H. Porter, M.A., M.Ed. firewalls, a practical question
Hello all, Ok, so all this talk has prompted my group to consider installing a firewall. It looks like the most economical approach would be to drop in a machine running linux between our router and our switch to perform this function. We have a 100Mbit full duplex connection here (to other routers on campus), so we would like to be able to pump data through the firewall at this rate. Is

Statemement by recurrence avoiding loop
Dear R users, I would like to calculate a cumulative sum as following: on the i-th row, in the j-th column of a matrix, I would like to obtain the sum of the (i-1) preceding elements of this j-th column. Could I avoid a "for" loop? Thank you, Tristan Lorino ---------------------- ?cole Nationale V?t?rinaire d'Alfort - http://www.vet-alfort.fr, T?l. 01 43 96 70 33 M?l. tlorino at

loop
Dear all, I am trying to run a loop in my codes, but the software returns an error: "subscript out of bounds" I dont understand exactly why this is happenning. My codes are the following: rm(list=ls()) #remove almost everything in the memory set.seed(180185) nsim <- 10 mresultx <- matrix(-99, nrow=1000, ncol=nsim) mresultb <- matrix(-99, nrow=1000, ncol=nsim) N

Using Predict and GLM
Dear R Help, I read through the archives pretty extensively before sending this email, as it seemed there were several threads on using predict with GLM. However, while my issue is similar to previous posts (cannot get it to predict using new data), none of the suggested fixes are working. The important bits of my code: set.seed(644) n0=200 #number of observations

"Earlyclobber" but for a subset of the inputs
Hi all, I'm working on a target whose registers have equal-sized subregisters and all of those subregisters can be named (or the other way round: registers can be grouped into super registers). So for instance we've got 16 registers W (as in wide) W0..W15 and 32 registers N (as in narrow) N0..N31. This way, W0 is made by grouping N0 and N1, W1 is N2 and N3, W2 is N4 and N5, ..., W15 is

I have a bit of an issue with rsync. I am using to keep directories in sync via another server for backup. Here is the server config [w1] path = /w1 comment = w1 web dir [w2] path = /w2 comment = w2 web dir Now on the client i run this command rsync -avv --delete --force domain.com::w1/ /w1/ It will NOT delete anything that is no on the server anymore.. for example on the server/client there

Strange error message from geoR´s likfit () lik. max. func.
ComRades: I am geeting the error message Error in ldots[[which(MET)]] : attempt to select less than one element when I try to fit the geostatistical model with the likfit() function of geoR. I have tried with old data for which likfit() successfully maximised the likelihood in previous versions of geoR, and yet the current version fails. Almost a GAM?
Hello: I sent this question the other day with the wrong subject heading and couple typos, with no response. So, here I go again, having made those corrections. I would like to estimate, for lack of a better description, a partially additive non-parametric model with the following structure: z~ f(x,y):w1 + g(x,y):w2 + e In other words, I'd like to estimate the marginals with respect to

memory.size help
I keep getting the 'memory.size' error message when I run a program I have been writing. It always it cannot allocate a vector of a certain size. I believe the error comes in the code fragement below where I have multiple arrays that could be taking up space. Does anyone know a good way around this? w1 <- outer(xk$xk1, data[,x1], function(y,z) abs(z-y)) w2 <- outer(xk$xk2,
