Fitting a distribution to peaks in histogram
Hello list!
I would like to fit a distribution to each of the peaks in a histogram, such
as this: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7029/2724/1600/DU145-Bax3-Bcl-xL.png
.
The peaks are identified using Petr Pikal peaks function (
http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/33097.html), but after that
I am quite stuck.
Any idea as to how I can:

Dear R users,
I have spectral data (say, wavelength vs. extinction coefficient) for
which I??d like to calculate an integral (i.e. the area underneath the
curve).
Suppose the (artificial) dataset is

How can I calculate an integral for these values using R?

arrays of lists in R ("cell arrays" in Matlab)
Dear all
I would like to have some data in the form of a 2-dimensional array
(matrix) of lists, so that I can easily find the desired list object by
indexing the structure by rows and columns. In matlab there exists a
data type called "cell array": a matrix of "cells", which are composite
objects very similar to R lists.
I know that in R you can create 1-dimensional

power in a specific frequency band
Dear R users
I have a really simple question (hoping for a really simple answer :-):
Having estimated the spectral density of a time series "x" (heart rate
data) with:
x.pgram <- spectrum(x,method="pgram")
I would like to compute the power in a specific energy band.
Assuming that frequency(x)=4 (Hz), and that I am interested in the band
between f1 and f2, is the

Post-hoc t-tests in 2-way repeated measure ANOVA
Hi all
I am running a 2-way repeated measure anova with 1 between-subjects
factor (Group=treatment, control), and 1 within-subject factor (Time of
measurement: time1, time2). I extract the results of the anova with:
summary(aov(effect ~ Group*Time + Error=Subj/Time, data=mydata))
Now, this must be clearly a dumb question, but how can I quickly extract

(robust) mixed-effects model with covariate
Dear all,
I am unsure about how to specify a model in R and I thought of asking
some advice to the list. I have two groups ("Group"= A, B) of
subjects, with each subject undertaking a test before and after a
certain treatment ("Time"= pre, post). Additionally, I want to enter
the age of the subject as a covariate (the performance on the test is
affected by age),

corrgram (package corrgram): how to plot multiple correlograms in the same page?
Hello,
I am trying to plot a few correlograms on the same figure, with the function corrgram() from the package corrgram. However, the function does not seem to use the base graphic system, as setting out the multiple figure layout with, e.g., par(mfrow=c(2, 2,)) does not work.
Does anybody know a workaround for this?
Many thanks in advance for any advice

Function nlme::lme in Ubuntu (but not Win or OS X): "Non-positive definite approximate variance-covariance"
Dear all,
I am estimating a mixed-model in Ubuntu Raring (13.04ΒΈ amd64), with the
code:
fm0 <- lme(rt ~ run + group * stim * cond,
random=list(
subj=pdSymm(~ 1 + run),
subj=pdSymm(~ 0 + stim)),
data=mydat1)
When I check the approximate variance-covariance matrix, I get:

Repeated-measures anova with a within-subject covariate (or varying slopes random-effects?)
Dear all,
I am having quite a hard time in trying to figure out how to correctly
spell out a model in R (a repeated-measures anova with a
within-subject covariate, I guess). Even though I have read in the
posting guide that statistical advice may or may not get an answer on
this list, I decided to try it anyway, hoping not to incur in
somebody's ire for misusing the tool.

Posfix and Dovecot (dovecot like LDA) and no space left on the disk
Hi,
Please I have a question:
If my server is out of space (disk full) and the postfix is LDA, the new messages a deffered or refused,so postfix send 450 to sender ...
But When I use dovecot (1.2.16) like LDA, postfix accept message (even there is no space), forward to dovecot, dovecot REFUSE the message and message is lost !
How can I solve this ? I don't want tu use quota and the disk

R-beta: Replot?
Is there some sort of replot function, i.e., reproducing the current
plot like gnuplot's command replot?
Of course it's easy to issue a plot command twice, but after several
lines statements it gets a little bit annoying ... and the plot
disappears each time one resizes the window, changes from single plot
to multiple plots etc.
Just dreaming ...

identify() and controlling label size
I thought this was going to be easy ...
Can the label size of identify() be controlled by setting par(cex.*) because
I'm having no luck? My only recourse is to save the index and position of
the labels from identify() and use text() to replot them.

Samba3 Win95 interoperability
Greetings,
I am trying to get samba3 to work well with W95. The windows 95
box can see the samba server, but cannot authenticate (claims wrong
password) to get to any shares. I know the smbpasswd is good as I can
authenticate and get to the shares using the same account and password on
a W2000 machine. I suspect I am doing something wrong in the [global]
section of the samba server.

Creating a vector of colours that are as different from one another as possible
Hi
I want to create a vector of colors that are as different from one
another as possible. ?rainbow states "Conceptually, all of these
functions actually use (parts of) a line cut out of the 3-dimensional
color space...". This suggests to me that the resulting colors are all
placed on this "line" and are equi-distant along it. The resulting
