Problem with a matrix
I have a scattered matrix that I have to import from an external file. In this case all the lines could have a different size. The graph is oriented. I give you an example: a b c b a c d c b The first row expresses that "a" has a direct path with "b" and also with "c". In the second "b" has a path with "a" and one with "c". In the third

Two problems
Hello! Two questions: 1: I have to import a matrix of adjacency from a file of a software that is not R (for example "bloc notes" of Windows). The problem is that the matrix is not in the explicit form as 0 1 1 1 0 0 1 0 0 but it is a scattered matrix where in each row there are two nodes that have a direct path. The matrix is a b a c b a c a For example, the first row

A sample question
Hello. Given a vector 1 3 4 2 8 9 5 I want to obtain a vector with all 0 except in the second position and in the fifth, where the numbers are the same of the first vector. The new vector must be 0 3 0 0 8 0 0 Thank you very much. Excuseme but my mind is out of order. two questions
The first: if I have a vector as (1,1,3,2,1,1), which is the command that gives all the positions of the min value? From the vector of the example a would like to obtain a new vector as (1,2,5,6) that give me all the positions of the minimum value 1. The second: if I have a matrix "A" and I want to obtain a new matrix deleting a column or a row of A, what have I to do? Thank you.

Find if there is independence
Hello I have the matrix a<-matrix(c(2,1,0,1,2,2,1,5,7,2,5,12),nrow=6) a [,1] [,2] [1,] 2 1 [2,] 1 5 [3,] 0 7 [4,] 1 2 [5,] 2 5 [6,] 2 12 Suppose that in the first row we have 3 men of England, 2 with hair, and 1 no In the second we have 6 italian men, 1 with hair and 5 no ... Problem
Hello. I don't know if you can help me but I try. I have a collection of objects, we suppose that they are 1000. After some works that I made I divided this collection in some clusters. Suppose to have obtained 50 clusters. For each cluster I found a particular value called Precision, where 0<Precision<1. Taken the firs cluster I want to compare his Precision with the precision of his

Question
Hello. I want to use "for". I have a matrix called "mat" that has got 100 rows. I want to take the line 1 and make a1<-which(mat[1,]==1) After this I want to take the second row and make a2<-which(mat[2,]==1) and so on until I arrive at row 100. I want to make it automatic for the 100 rows and so I wrote: for(i in 1:nrow(mat)){ ai<-which(mat[i,]==1) }

from points in Lon/Lat to physical distance in dist class
Dear R-listers, Here, I would like to hearing helps from you. I have GPS data (multiple points in the geographic scale) in longitude/latitude. I intend to calculate distance (in kilometer) among such points and output the distance matrix in dist class. I have gotten some progress, but I still can not get final goal. Could please give me any directions/advice? This email cc. to Mr. Pierre, the

evaluating string variables
Hello!!! I have a folder (C:/R/) with matrix files, named by number, i.e. 0.mat, 1.mat,...,1250.mat. In this case, they are 5x5 simetric matrices. I would like to compute a property for each matrix and put calculated values into a data frame for posterior ploting and printing. Below there is an example for 7 matrices (0.mat..6.mat) #define data frame L <- data.frame(frame=numeric(7),

how to convert a table to adjacency matrix used in social network analysis?
Hi Guys, Do you any one know how to convert a long format table to an adjacency matrix used in sna? The long table looks like p1 p2 counts a b 100 a c 200 a d 100 b c 80 b d 90 b e 100 c d 100 c e 40 d e 60 and I want to convert it to an adjacency matrix which can be used in sna? Any methods will be appreciated! btw, besides sna package, is there any better package can be used in social

error: optim(rho, n2ll.rho, method = method, control = control, beta = parm$beta, : initial value in 'vmmin' is not finite
I am trying to use the lnam autocorrelation model from the SNA package. I have it running for smaller adjacency matrices (<1,500) it works just fine but when my matrices are bigger 4000+. I get the error: > lnam1_01.adj<- lnam(data01$adopt,x01,ec2001.csr) Error in optim(rho, n2ll.rho, method = method, control = control, beta = parm$beta, : initial value in 'vmmin' is not

Weighted association map
Could somebody program this kind of plot type to R, if none exists, based on mds or correlation tables or some more suitable method? What do you think about idea? Does it work? None similar or better exists? http://weightedassociationmap.blogspot.com/ Atte Tenkanen University of Turku, Finland

SNA packages/network package
Hello everyone, I am an italian student who is working with packages SNA (social network analysis) and network. I ask you if there is a simple way to write a R-script using these packages to extract from an adjacency matrix the following things: -number of cliques which are in the network; -number of k-cores (e.g. 3-cores, 4-cores); -cycles (e.g. 3-cycles, 4-cycles) -hub & authorities.

Geographic distance between lat-long points in R?
Dear R, I have a bunch of geographic locations specified by lat-long coordinates. What's an easy way to calculate geographic distance between any two points? OR, perhaps there is a function for calculating a distance matrix for K sites? Sincerely, Scott Chamberlain [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R - how to measure the distance?
Hello, I have been worked with R for 3 weeks. I have one problem. I could not find the answer on it on web pages. I do not know how to measure the shortes distance between point (Lon/Lat) and line. For Social Network Analysis-Graph Analysis - How to convert 2 mode data to 1 mode data?
Hi, Does anyone know of a package in R that has a function to convert network data (e.g. an adjacency matrix or ) from 2-mode to 1-mode? I am conducting social network analysis. I know that Pajek has this function under Net --> Transform --> 2-mode to 1-mode --> Rows. I have searched the documentation under packages 'sna', 'network', 'igraph', and
