persp(): z-axis annotation overwrites numbers at tickmark
Dear R-users
first, thanks to Paul Murrell for fixing my problem "What line is labeled in
persp()".
It works great now (in the development version).
One more question (I don't know if it's related to the "old" problem): the
annotation on the z-axis
overwrites the numbers at the tickmarks and sometimes, if numbers are pretty
long, the numbers themselfe overlap the

-Altering labels and tickmarks on persp() plots
All,
This was posted earlier but may have got lost in another thread.
Can someone tell me how to independently alter the fontsize and position of
labels on a persp plot??
I've tried using titles() and axes() but they seem to only apply to the
standard plot() and contour plots (contour() and filled.contour(). Commands
like text() seem only to add to the margin of the plot rather than

persp(): add second plane
Dear R-users,
is it possible to add a second plane to the persp()-plot? I couldn't find
any hint on that in the news archive...
I'm using R.1.4.1 for Windows.
Thanks in advance,
Nina

persp(): add second plane (second, long question)
Thank you for your replies so far.
Sorry for bothering you again, but I'm still not able to get what I need as
I don't understand all parts of the replies (just using R for easy
things....).
Is there a code for plane3d() like some of you sent me for points3d()? I was
not able to get that out of the scatterplot3d package...
What I can do is to get the x,y and z-range for the xlim, ylim and

what line is labeled in persp?
Dear R-users,
another question concerning a persp()-plot:
What does it depend on which line is labeled as an axis? Some plots I've
done look fine, but in one plot, a different line is labeled. I can't find
out why, as I just copied the code.
Two small *.ps-grafics can be downloaded on
http://www.math.uni-bremen.de/~nina/grafic.html
to illustrate my problem.

change axis labels in persp
I need to change one of the axis produced by persp by giving it labels for the tickmarks.
The dimension has months (a factor) so the default decimals don't look good.
The graph will finally become a pdf or emf file to be embedded in a document, so persp3d will not work, I think.
Thank you all.

surpressing tickmarks / labels x-as for two sets of boxplot (plotted as stacked boxplots)
Hello,
I am trying to plot two sets of boxplots together. These are estimates of two
experiments and?seven?factors.
The results of the two experiments I want to plot as boxplots stacked to each
other.
Therefore I plot first the results of the first experiment; and next with the
add option the second set of boxplots.
The boxplots are plotted at 'at = 1:7 - 0.15 for the first experiment and

xyplot/levelplot: thickness of tickmarks
Hi,
if I use the xyplot (or levelplot) function (lattice library) with
the option axs="i", I have the problem that the tickmarks lie a bit
outside the "plot-box". Consider for example:
library(lattice)
x<-seq(0,1,by=0.01)
y<-seq(0,1,by=0.01)
xyplot(y~x,type="l",xlim=c(0,1),ylim=c(0,1),scales=list

strange tickmarks placing in image
Hello,
I've a problem aligning tickmarks to an image. I've created a correlation matrix for 84 datasets. I'm visualizing the matrix as an image with colour coding according to the correlation coefficient.
The 84 datasets are distributed over three factors, but the desgin is unbalanced, so that the tickmarks and the lables for the axis must not evenly distributed. A regular grid via

Limiting number of tickmarks in lattice bwplot
Have a simple bwplot with 24 ordered factors across the x axis. I would like
to only label every 4th tick mark so that the labels fit. I tried
scales=list(x=list(tick.number=6)), but I still seem to get 24 tickmarks and
24 labels. Full code is below:
bwplot(SumOfIn.Use ~ Hour | Period,
scales=list(x=list(tick.number=6)),horizontal=FALSE,las=2,main="Rooms

tensor product of equi-spaced B-splines in the unit square
Dear all,
I need to compute tensor product of B-spline defined over equi-spaced
break-points.
I wrote my own program (it works in a 2-dimensional setting)
library(splines)
# set the break-points
Knots = seq(-1,1,length=10)
# number of splines
M = (length(Knots)-4)^2
# short cut to splineDesign function
bspline = function(x) splineDesign(Knots,x,outer.ok = T)

axis labels and ticks in persp
1. This doesn't work
persp(x,y,z,col="grey",xlab="x",ylab="y",zlab="z")
but I can get axis lables on x and y by
persp(x,y,z,col="grey")
title(xlab="x", ylab="y")
BUT I can't figure out how to get a label for z. How to do it?
2. To be be consistent with image(), I think persp should make z the axis
it now calls y (and

How change the size of persp() axis labels?
Hi,
I have been using the persp() function to plot species response surfaces
based on GAMs (using package mgcv). Everything works fine, except that
I have a slight problem when it comes to producing a figure with
multiple (4 - 6) persp() plots on it. The axis labels remain the same
size, no matter how large or small the plot is, causing some overlap
when the multiplot figure is produced.

persp plots axis tick-labels
Hi R-listers,
I am having trouble with persp plotting and I hope some knowledgeable
person can help me. I have searched the help files to no avail. I am sure
there is a way of achieving this simple task. I thought in par maybe but
that seems not to work for 3d plots. Maybe I have missed something.
I read in ?persp that it expects increasing values for both my x and y
axes, and a matrix

Orientation of tickmarks labels in boxplot/plot
Hi,
I have been trying draw tickmark labels along
the y - axis perpendicular to the y axis while
labels along the x - axis parallel to x axis
while making box plot.
Here is my test dataset.

persp and greek symbols in the axes labels
Hello,
I am plotting a 3D function using persp and I would like to use greek
symbols in the axes labels.
I have found examples like this one on the web:
plot(0,0,xlab=expression(kappa[lambda]),ylab=substitute(paste(phi,"=",true,sigma),list(true=5)))
this works well with plot but not with persp:
with the command
persp(M,theta = -20,phi =

plot3d, wireframe, persp help
Hello,
I am trying to get a surface plot of a data set that looks like the following,
1 2 5.6
5 9 2.4
9 8 9.8
... to (60,000 rows down)
From my homework, the persp function only works with evenly spaced data points with the z data beeing in a matrix. my data is not in that format.
the wireframe fxn gives me an error,
no applicable method for "wireframe"

Persp and color (again)
Hi guys,
After all the discussion yesterday about persp and color, I decided to
have a more closer look at demo(persp), and decided to write a function to
generate 'topo-like' colours to plot perspectives (Thanks a lot to Uwe
Ligges for his enlightning comments regarding the code in the demo).
Here it goes, I believe that this function will be pretty useful to a lot
of people:
