Lattice Package...
I have two questions:
1. I've tried to use the lattice package with the development version of R
(1.5.0), windows 2000, and it consistantly crashes RGUI and Rterm, on two
seperate installations...
2. The real question... Is it possible to change the barchart horizontal
bars on lattice to give vertical bars? If so, could you please give me a
hint on how to do so?
Thanks,

Design and Hmisc
I'm looking for design and hmisc version 2.0 for R 1.8 for windows. I've
found design 2.0 in the downloads for R1.7 but not hmisc.
I've also checked Dr. Harrell's site and it only goes to 1.6 for windows.
Any thoughts?

Samba 4 + Windows XP very slow - especially noticeable with many files
Hi,
After our upgrade from Samba 3.x to 4.1.6 we are having major
performance issues. Today, I've been able to nail it down to a simple
test case.
What strikes me is that Windows XP takes about 25 seconds for one job,
while it only costs 3 seconds on Windows 7.
I have two tests:
1000 files of 10k each (total ~10Mb):
* Linux on localhost or a remote host (1GE or 10GE): 5.5 seconds

problems with memory allocation
I hope that someone has had a similar trouble and will be able to
help us :
We , have installed the R package in a Digital Workstation with 500Mb

RAM memory, running under Unix operating system. The package works fine
but when we try to start the program with more than 120Mb, (vsize

FW: Maps and plotting
Thanks for the help on the translucent dots. What would be the best
method for creating a map of the facility? I looked into map* in the
libraries and didn't find anything on creating the maps, just using
them.
Thanks again...

Plots using POSIX
Is there a reason that the bottom axis changes color when POSIX data is used
in plot function?
For example:
> timedata <- c("2/3/2003","3/4/2003","5/4/2003")
> timedata2 <- strptime(timedata,format="%m/%d/%Y")
> numdata <- c(2,3,4)
> plot(as.POSIXct(timedata2),numdata,col="red",type="o")

Memory increase in R
Dear All:
Pleas help me to increase the memory in R.
I am trying to make euclidean distance matrix.
The number of low in data is 500,000. Therefore, the dimension of euclidean
distance matrix is 500,000*500,000.
When I run the data in R. R could not make distance matrix because of memory

In order increase memory, I read the FAQ and follow the instruction as

quota-status returns quota_status_success when email would put user over quota
Hi list,
I am attempting to get quota-status service working, so I can deny email
at the initial smtp dialog instead of generating bounces with lda.
I can't seem to get quota-status to return quota_status_overquota, even
when an email would put an account over quota.
Quota in general works fine:

Rcmd on Windows (fwd)
Hi there,
Finally I got this "Rcomd SHLIB" to like me! The reason was because I did
not log in my computer as "administrator", which caused some problem of perl
being found... Anyway, thank you all for the prompt and intelligent
suggestions.
Best,
Yunda

Rcmd BATCH command line arguments
I want to run Rcmd BATCH with R_DEFAULT_PACKAGE=base so it doesn't load any
packages, but it seems to reject this argument because it does not start
with a '-' or '--'. Is there a different argument that will work? Thanks.

RCMD fails in Windows XP
I have setup R 1.9.1 on my Dell laptop running windows XP. I have
installed it to C:\R\rw1091. Rgui runs fine, but Rcmd fails if run with
parameters (i.e. install). The windows dialog box cheerfully says "R for
Windows front-end has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." Running the visual C++ debugger informs me
that there is an unhandled

RODBC: Minor problem, I hope.
Sorry for the numerous posts, I found that an old (~ June) post had the same

this as a new thread).
Anyway...
