Outer, kronecker, etc.
`outer` (and related functions like kronecker) require that their functional argument operate elementwise on arrays. This means for example that outer( 1:2, 3:4, list) or outer(1:2,3:4,function(a,b){1}) gives an error. Is there a version of `outer`/`kronecker`/etc. that takes arbitrary functions and does its own elementwise mapping? In the first example above, I'd expect the

Wishlist: mention Vectorize in 'outer' man page (PR#10490)
Full_Name: Antonio, Fabio Di Narzo Version: 2.6.1 OS: linux Submission from: (NULL) (213.140.16.187) In 'outer' man page, there is no mention of the Vectorize function. Moreover, I think it isn't underlined enough that the FUN argument to 'outer' must be a vectorized function (doc speaks about a function which has to 'operate elementwise'). A cross-reference from

outer
i cannot cajole outer in doing what i want it to do. i hav a function only defined for scalars fun(n,k) and i want to do outer(1:5,1:5,function(x,y) fun(x,y)) (i know this is written somewhat clumsy) to get an array with the values of fun to use it as an input for image this does not work since outer assumes then fun works on arrays elementwise. what is the easiest way of getting what i

A problem about outer()
Dear all, I have something about function outer() that I can't understand. Just see the following example. The two NaNs are due to 0/0, but I can't figure out the cause of the last two errors. I wonder if some one can explain this for me. ___________________________________________________________________ > sx=rbinom(10,1,0.5);ot=rbinom(10,1,0.5);ag <- rbinom(10,100,0.3);ho <-

Link-dest thinks file is newly created, but it isn't
Hi: I've been using rsync for a couple years now. Unfortunately, I've made some changes on both ends, so it's unclear what could be the culprit. I make extensive use of --link-dest to provide a cheap "Time Machine"-like backup for a Windows machine. matrix cross product in R different from cross product in Matlab
Hi all, I have been searching all sorts of documentation, reference cards, cheat sheets but can't find why R's crossprod(A, B) which is identical to A%*%B does not produce the same as Matlabs cross(A, B) Supposedly both calculate the cross product, and say so, or where do I go wrong? R is only doing sums in the crossprod however, as indicated by (z <- crossprod(1:4)) # = sum(1 +

why does teh following code not work? a<-rnorm(50) dim(a)<-c(10,5) mycov<-function(mat,i,j){ sum((mat[,i]-mean(mat[,i]))*(mat[,j]-mean(mat[,j]))) } covmat<-function(X){ outer(1:dim(X)[2],1:dim(X)[2],function(v1,v2){mycov(X,v1,v2)})} from what i know covmat(a) should give the covariance matrix of a, but it gives a matrix with constant

OCFS2 1.2/1.6
We are in the process of migrating to new database servers. Our current RAC clusters are running OCFS2 1.2.9 on RHEL 4. Our new servers are running OCFS2 1.6 OEL5. If possible, we would like to minimize the amount of data that needs to move as we migrate to the new servers. We have the following questions: 1. Can we mount an existing OCFS2 1.2 volume on a servers running OCFS2 1.6?

Fwd: --link-dest does not appear to be linking on Cygwin
Hi: I have attempted to following some instructions to use --link-dest in order to preserve space for multiple backups. I'm using rsync on Cygwin with a NAS (ext4) which does support hard-links on the filesystem. I've written a short program that does attempt to create a hard-link on this NAS from Cygwin and it does look to be working. If I run ls -li on the NAS the inodes are the same.

Using indexing to manipulate data
I know one of R's advantages is it's ability to index, eliminating the need for control loops to select relevant data, so I thought this problem would be easy. I can't crack it. I have looked through past postings, but nothing seems to match this problem I have a data set with one column of actors and one column of acts. I need a list that will give me a pair of actors in each row,
