S4 method selection based on second argument
I'm translating some Matlab code and need some help figuring out how to change this call into an S4 generic method. In matlab, there's a function called 'repmat' with three calling sequences (all I have to deal with anyway): 1) B = repmat(A, m, n) 2) B = repmat(A, [m n]) 3) B = repmat(A, n) In all cases, A is the fill value, m is number of rows, and n is number of

Analog to matlab repmat function
Hello, I'm trying to switch from Matlab to R-project, and having some difficulties. I make a use of multidimensional matrices. For example, I need to extract mean from one of the dimensions: % we have matrix data of size: 130 x 11 x 350 x 2 data = data - repmat(mean(data,3),[130 1 1 1]); In R project I managed to do that in a very pervarsive way: # mean(data,3) in R base <-

boxplot with frequencies(counts)
Dear All, I have a table as following position type count 1 2 100 1 3 51 1 5 64 1 8 81 1 6 32 2 2 41 2 3 85 and so on Normally if would have a vector of 2,3,4,5... by position position and plot them by position. But now i have counts of these types. Is there a way to compute boxplot of such

Help with Matrix package
Hello all, A colleague at work set me the challenge to convert some MATLAB code into R, to see which is faster. We'd seen that benchmark comparing MATLAB 6.5 to R1.90 (and others), and so I thought that I should be able to get roughly comparable speeds. The code has lots of multiplications of matrixes, transposes, and MATLAB's "repmat". I did the code conversion, and R was about

Non-linear optimisation
Hi there, I have a piece of Matlab code I use to optimise a trding strategy. If there are any Matlab/R specialists out there, I would appreciate your help in doing the exact same optimisation in R. I suspect I would use nlm() in R but am not sure where to define my constraints. I have attached my Matlab code below for reference. Many thanks. Constraints function [c,ceq]=TriskellConstraints(X)

array manipulation
Hello, I'm at the very beginning of the learning process of this language. Sorry in advance for the (possible but plausible) stupidity of my question. I would like to find a way to permute the DIMENSIONS of an array. Something that sounds like the function "permute()" in matlab. Given an array C of dimensions c x d x T , for instance, the command permute(C, [2 1 3]) would provide

2 questions : format and hh:mm
Dear R-users, i have two questions : 1- first of all, i wish to know the way to obtain a serie with a format like "00" : ( "01","02","03","04"....) or like postal code ("01100","02222"). for instance, i do : > format(strptime(as.character(c(1:4)),"%H"),"%H") but it sounds complicate and not really

looking for equivalent of matlab's medfilt1 function
Dear all, I have several files with Matlab code, which I am translating to R. For the zero-level approach, I took the very old shell script from R-help archives, which has made some obvious leg-work such as replacement of "=" with "<-". Now I am translating indexing, matrix operations and function call using this table http://37mm.no/mpy/octave-r.html The problem is, I

Confused by SVD and Eigenvector Decomposition in PCA
Hey, All In principal component analysis (PCA), we want to know how many percentage the first principal component explain the total variances among the data. Assume the data matrix X is zero-meaned, and I used the following procedures: C = covriance(X) %% calculate the covariance matrix; [EVector,EValues]=eig(C) %% L = diag(EValues) %%L is a column vector with eigenvalues as the elements percent

First, all credit to Vladimir Parkhaev as this is his code. He may have submitted this before for all I know, but I for one definitely would like to see this end up in the codebase, so I'm submitting it. *** openssh-5.1p1/serverloop.c Fri Jul 4 09:10:49 2008 --- openssh-5.1p1-RCFHACKS/serverloop.c Thu Jan 29 08:56:11 2009 *************** *** 957,962 **** --- 957,968 ---- c =

Logging enhancement
I would like to suggest a logging enhancement that would contribute greatly to access auditing. Currently nothing is logged when a user connects to another server as a different user. The auditing trail is broken for tracing access. userA> ssh userB at hostB A simple syslog addition (for example) to ssh.c closes that gap. /* Log into the remote system. This never

alignment problem in monitor_fdpass.c
Hi, After FreeBSD changed from using -O2 to using -O on their ARM port, I found that sshd stopped working. (gcc version 4.2.1 20070719 [FreeBSD]) I have downloaded openssh-SNAP-20080220.tar.gz and the code still look the same. Anyway looking into it, I found that the problem is in monitor_fdpass.c in the functions mm_send_fd and mm_receive_fd. Using -O2 used to align the tmp array on a 4 byte

Hi, I had developed a program which spawns a shell where i am trying to use ssh commands to log into a linux server. There is a pop up dialog window which is prompting me for key-ing the password. Actually i want to get rid of this pop up dialog box, as i don't want this to be visible in my program/code execution. Could you please let me know is there any way to resolve and stop this

Command-based ssh_config declarations
How difficult would it be to enhance the client ssh_config file to allow command-based declarations similar to that provided by the "Host" keyword? The main reason I need something like this is when ssh is used via CVS and Subversion. I want all CVS/Subversion traffic to use a different SSH port and different authentication options. So... you might have an ssh_config file that

SVM: Graphical representation
Hi, We are working on binary classification using kernlab for SVM based on more than 30 variables and now we want to provide a graphical representation of our results in 2D or 3D. We have checked the graphical functionality of kernlab but it seems that only works with 2 principal components, and we use to work with more than 8 PC due to the variability of our data. We are thinking in some kind
