using Rterm under cygwin, no possiblity to delete characters
Dear R-users,
When I call Rterm from cygwin, I have no options but typing the exact syntax
the first time. If I happen to hit the "delete" key (backspace), R dies when
I press enter saying :
Error: ... (error concerning the function on the last line of text)
Execution halted
Perhaps some of you have experienced this and found work arounds? One has to
be pretty good to type without

Rgui, Startup, HOME, R_USER, ...
Hi,
Main objective: Let Rgui find my ~/.Rprofile and ~/.Renviron files,
where ~ is equal to getwd("~").
I have few comments/questions:
(A) On my WinXP Pro installation, the system environment variable
'HOME' is not availble to R, e.g. Sys.getenv("HOME") is empty. I
believe this is default case (correct me if I'm wrong). However, if I
set the "Start

No exit codes from RTerm (Windows) (PR#9296)
Full_Name: Russell V. Lenth
Version: 2.3.1
OS: Windows XP Pro
Submission from: (NULL) (128.255.132.188)
I wrote a simple .BAT file to run the Sweave function on a file (via RTerm),
then run pdflatex on the result (after RTerm exits). The issue is that if an
error condition occurs in RTerm, it is prudent to not do the pdflatex processing
afterward.
Here are the relevant statements in the BAT

rterm 1.1.1 under windows 2000
Hello,
I am experiencing trouble with r-term 1.1.1 for windows 2000.
When I start rterm, and I get a prompt, it seems to freeze after any
assignment statement (so, if I type x_rnorm(1000), I don't get another
prompt). Statements that don't involve assignment statements (like
"plot(rnorm(1000))") seem to work, and I get a new prompt.
The Rgui seems to work fine, and if I *can*

Use Rterm in rxvt for Cygwin?
Dear R users,
Does anyone notice that Rterm.exe does not work well with rxvt.exe,
an xterm emulator for Cygwin? It produces an error message window
with the following message:
This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor
It also prints "Signal 127" in rxvt window.
Rterm --ess, however, works.

recovering "status" after q(status=n) in Windows
Colleagues,
I am writing scripts that run on both Windows (Vista) and Linux
(RedHat 9). The scripts will be used in both S-Plus (version 8) and
R (2.6.0). I am trying to use the "status" portion of the quit command:

Console not found
I played around with memory limits in R 2.1.0 under XP in order to be
able to work with large matrixes (3600x4100). Among several things I
tried was to alter console settings and saving them.
Since then, I can't restart Rgui. It says several times 'Console not
found' with pieces of the text that usually appears in the console and
then crashes. Rterm.exe works fine.
I've now

I have troubles make TinnR 2.2.0.2 work, it seems that the dependency on
the package TinnR that cannot be found (I tried also manual downloads,
but I cannot find the package anywhere on any CRAN mirror).
I even set a default cran mirror in the Rprofile.site file, so that the
later command can find it:

R/Tk from batch file
Dear R-help,
Reccently I've been working on sample size estimates for our forensic
scientists and have to make the work accessible to them, preferably
in some Windows based graphical form. The obvious choise was Tk via R,
so I now have a couple of very nice, user friendly front ends for
calculating betas and beta-binomials which run equally well under
Windows and other systems (same code -

R console history v/s unix history
Hi
i'm new to R and find that the "history" functionality works a little
different than in unix. A very convenient feature of history in unix
is the ability to recall a comand by typing in !x where x is a letter
and the latest matching command in the history that starts with the letter
is (re)called. This is useful for instance, when calling a "source" command
by !s rather

Rterm
Dear all,
Two questions regarding rterm
First:
C:\Program Files\R\rw1081\bin\rterm.exe --vanilla <test.r --args "Arg1"
"Arg2"
worked for me so far with r Version 1081, to start a R script with the
given arguments.
With R1090
C:\Program Files\R\rw1090\bin\rterm.exe --vanilla <test.r --args "Arg1"
"Arg2"
There is the error message: Rterm.exe

assignInNamespace to create a setwd() replacement: how to use unlockBinding()?
In my .Rprofile for Windows, I had the following functions defined to
mirror a few features
I miss from linux:
(a) replace setwd() with a version that stashes the current directory so
it can be easily restored
(b) writes a short version of the current R directory to the Windows
title bar: I can always see where I am,
with multiple Rgui windows.
(c) creates a cd() shorthand for setwd(), but

Rprofile: distinguish between Rgui, Rterm, JGR?
[Environment: Win XP, R 2.10.1]
In my Rprofile I have startup code to do various things, intended for
when I use the Rgui console.
Some of these are causing problems in JGR now that I've installed it.
How can I test for R
running with Rgui to do some of these things only there?

text rather than html help in Windows
I would like to use Rterm in Windows XP and have the help files appear in
text format in the terminal rather than in the html popup window. For
example, I would like to enter help(lm) and get the text to appear in the
terminal window. Can anyone suggest a way to do this? Thanks and Happy Hew

R_PROFILE on Windows
Dear R-devel,
There seems to be a bug in the Startup section, regarding the
R_PROFILE environment variable in Windows. If not a bug in the Startup
itself, perhaps a bug in the documentation.
According to ?Startup:
Then R searches for the site-wide startup profile unless the
command line option '--no-site-file' was given. The name of this

Selective load of .First() function just for Rgui.exe
Hi all,
I have a .First <- function() {...} in the Rprofile.site file. Through
.First() I'm adding several menus to the GUI to access several functions
I've been developing for own use.
However, I also need to launch R scripts silently in a batch way, and
in this case I get the error message:
