Importing vector graphics into R
Dear R users,
I know of the possibility to import bitmaps via the nice pixmap library.
But if you later on create a PDF it is somewhat disappointing to
have such graphics bitmapped. Is there a trick (via maps?) to import a
vector graphic and have them plotted onto a graph? My searching attempts
in the searchable r-help archive did not seem to result in anything
useful...
Cheers,

se.fit in predict.glm
Hi Folks,
I'm seeking confirmation of something which is probably true
but which I have not managed to find in the documentation.
I have a binary response y={0.1} and a variable x and have
fitted a probit response to the data with
f <- glm( y~x, family=binomial(link=probit) )
and then, with a specified set of x-value X I have used the
predict.glm function as
p <- predict( f, X,

what is a good learning book for R?
Aside from An Introduction to R by W. N. Venables, D. M. Smith (the
PDF is free), what would people recommend as a good starter book? I
was thinking of introductory Statistics with R by Peter Dalgaard. Any
thoughts??
My knowledge of Stats is stale and the primary use of R is for time
series analysis. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Request: Suggestions for "good teaching" packages, esp. with C code
Hello,
I am looking for CRAN packages that don't teach bad habits. Can I
have suggestions?
I don't mean the recommended packages that come with R, I mean the
contributed ones. I've been sampling a lot of examples and am
surprised that many ignore seemingly agreed-upon principles of R
coding. In r-devel, almost everyone seems to support the "functional
programming" theme

Troubles with voicemail and cisco 7905 SIP
I'm deploying a fairly large number of Cisco 7905 with SIP connected to an
asterisk PBX.
The problem:
the 7905 has this nice "feature": You can set a "voice mail number" in
configuration, so that you can listen your voice mail just by hitting the
"messages" key on the phone. It just autodials "8500" or whatever else.
The customer wants this, so

S Programming Book at Amazon.com
As of a moment ago (9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 8, 2001), the S Programming book by
Venables and Ripley was once again selling for 17.98 American dollars at
Amazon.com. Alas, I notice that "Mixed Effects Models in S and S-Plus" by
Pinheiro and Bates now lists at Amazon for 97.25 American dollars, as
opposed to about $70 a little while ago.
